  1. I carry a small mini stapler and pre fold the luggage tags and then attach them after baggage pick up.  Takes about a minute to do.  I always put two tags on each bag ever since one tag came off and the bag delivery got delayed until late evening.

  2. I certainly have pride in QM2 and I think Cunard does too, but from a Carnival corporate standpoint I’m not so sure. I question if they are seeing the payoff expected, and she is not doing the fast crossing like she was designed for. Was it really necessary to spend all that extra $$ on a power plant that rarely if ever is used to its full potential? An absolutely wonderful ship, but a bit of a failure in regards to how she is being utilized with that impressive and expensive power plant.
For what she's asked to do, that extra power us crucial, even if not used regularly. On a transatlantic schedule, delays due to bad weather can't be made up by skipping a port like they are on cruises. Nice as they may be QV and QE wouldn't work on 20+ tranatlantics a year. Look at the delays into NYC the QE has had off season.

  3. If you are at all a night owl, wandering the ship late at night, well after midnight can be a real treat. Walking through the public rooms on deck 2 and 3 when you are all alone, the ship will seem like it's all yours. Then up to the late buffet in the Kings Court because everyone needs a fifth meal of the day at least once in life.

  4. I agree with rv24. I like to enjoy my morning and have a quiet, peaceful lunch, then arrive at the Brooklyn terminal about 1:30 or 2:00. No waiting, short taxi line into the terminal, no need to go to the Kings Court. Just unpack and relax.

  5. You might like to follow the blogs of passengers on world cruises to get a feel for particular ships. Most leave the Northern Hemisphere early January, however there is one WC, Sea Princess, which starts in Auckland/Sydney in June, with six passengers currently blogging.

My first cruise from Australia to London return, set the benchmark for all my future cruising. I am destination driven. I know I wouldn't enjoy any WC with too many sea days, nor short days in port.

Viking Sun World Cruise ongoing review/comments has some very helpful comments on the most recent WC - all good things to consider.

These WC blogs will help you make a WC vs long cruise decision which best meets your needs. After all, it would be a trip of a lifetime, which many enjoy so much, they repeat year after year.

Could you provide links to any of the Sea Princess blogs?

  6. Once when traveling abroad with a university group, one participant complained loudly and regularly about every meal. I finally asked her where she ate at home. She mentioned a series of American chain restaurants that weren't to my taste but explained why she wasn't happy at the local restaurants we were dining at. Food is so often about preferences and comfort. Since then when confronted by people unhappy with their meals or hotel rooms and such, I ask where they usually dine or stay and it gives me great insights to their expectations.

  7. I have received labels, been upgraded and then had to print out my own. I've also had suitcases sitting outside my cabin with my cabin number where someone had been upgraded but didn't realize not to use the original labels.

  8. Lido lunch never made sense to me until I traveled as part of a larger group. While we all congregated at dinner together, all various activities during the day meant people were on different schedules and for some the Lido/Kings Court made more sense either because of limited time or they were lunching solo. I tended to head to the Britannia or the Pub anyway, even on my own.
