  1. Yes, they are sisterships. There are very small differences in the decor but the spaces you will find onboard are exactly the same except for the fact that Armonia has a Surf and turf a la carte restaurant at the back of the ship on deck 6 (port side because on starbord side there is the standard restaurant)  while Sinfonia has that area occupied by the standard restaurant that is on both sides

  2. This is a sad confirmation of what was speculated.

neoRiviera will leave the fleet next month as was announced in 2018 while Atlantica and Mediterranea will go to the new Carnival's joint venture in the Chinese market respectively in 2020 and May 2021.

The sad news is that both neoRomantica and Victoria will leave the fleet in autumn 2020

  3. I totally agree with you. The new direction that Costa has taken is too much mass market and mega ships oriented. I was expecting the leaving of neoRiviera that is too small for the cruise line (I still love that ship and will be in a couple of weeks onboard neoRiviera for my last cruise on her) but the farewell to Mediterranea and Atlantica was totally unexpected and probably also Victoria and neoRomantica will leave the fleet soon. After that the only ships that will be interesting in the fleet will be Deliziosa and Luminosa but they always do the same boring itineraries.

As you I have chosen other cruiselines for my future

Unless this has changed Suite guests now eat in the upper MDR on deck four, this is a separate area set aside for them. You might even have a table number assigned to you in the evening, though not for lunch.

On our second on the Magica (Done 5 it's our favourite ship) we ate in Club deck 11, last one deck four, with Perla Diamante members this may have been due to numbers so do check once on board.

To be honest I think I preferred deck four seemed more involved to other guests yet still like a separate dining room.

I don't know when you have been onboard Magica but after the drydock held in autumn 2017, from the beginning of 2018, a dedicated kitchen was added to the club restaurant and the suite guests have usually been assigned to that restaurant.

Obviously Costa can change the restaurant assigned to suite guests for operative reasons

  5. I don't know what is the policy outside Costa's Italian pricing, but in Italy the basic fare doesn't have the mandatory service charge included while the all inclusive fare has it. So I suggest you to consider also that fact, because the service charge is 10€ per person per day

  6. Yes, the Club Vicenza on deck 11 is usually reserved for suite guests and included in the Deluxe fare. The fact is that it is not exclusively reserved for suite guests because the other passengers can go there by paying a fee

We were hoping one of the newer ships would be doing the Mediterranean.  That’s too bad

If you are interested in that, the Ryndam is scheduled to be in the Mediterranean in September and October 2021; probably will do the Med itineraries that Nieuw Statendam is doing in 2019 and 2020 from Civitavecchia

  8. I have disembarked on Sunday from Nieuw Statendam's 7 nights Norway cruise. There were two happy hour times: from 4 to 5pm in the Ocean Bar and from 6 to 7pm in the Rolling Stone Rock Room and Billboard. In the BIllboard area there was also a small complimentary buffet area were you could take free food choosing from 3 cold and 3 hot dishes

There is also ‘Royal Class TBA 2020’.  Do you think that is Royal Caribbean?  Maybe there will be three ships?  Or it could be 2 or three different ships coming in and out of the Mediterranean before and after trans Atlantics I guess....  June 20th, July 6th and September 28th.

Royal Class TBA is the placeholder for Enchanted Princess, the new Princess' royal class ship that will be delivered in 2020

  10. I would like to add the fact that onboard Diadema there is the possibility to have the fixed time dinner in the two main restaurants (Adularia and Fiorentino) but you can also have the open seating option for dinner in the Corona Blu restaurant which is a part of the buffet that is converted to a restaurant with the same service of the other restaurants for the evening. At the moment Diadema is the only non neo ship in the fleet to have also the open seating.

Obviously the other part of the corona blu, which is not converted in restaurant, remains buffet style also for dinner

  11. I read somewhere that you get assigned a number once you drop off your bags, which is called later for boarding. So if my number has already been called I can board straight away once I come back to terminal?

Yes, once your number has been called you can embark anytime you want (p.e. if you have the number 12 you can also embark when they call the number 18). Obviously you have to be at the terminal for the embarkation before the end of embarkation time written in your cruise documentation

  12. Correct.

The neoClassica is due to be handed over to her new owners on 10th. March 2018 after finishing her last cruise Male to Mubai. As she is being handed over in India, could she be going to the breakers yard?

The Victoria is due back in Savona on 17th. March and will go into drydock in Marseilles.

The Victoria will take over the neoRiviera’s cruisesand the neoRiviera will atake over neoClassica’s schedule. Victoria will be offering an interesting cruise with some new ports - Savona, Olbia, Minorca, Ibiza (overnight), Palma de Mallorca and Tarragona (overnight).

Now if only we could get the Atlantica back.:*

In addition to this, neoRIviera will also do a new itinerary in October and the beginning of November 2018 from Venice to Bari, Corfù, Igoumenitsa, Kotor, Split and Zadar staying very long time in the majority of the ports.

After the summer season Victoria will go to the Mauritius replacing neoRiviera and neoRiviera will go from December 2018 to India and Maldives during the winter season

  13. Hi ITCruiser

No internet at home for 3rd day now. I have my laptop tethered to my phone now.

We've been on the NeoClassica and NeoRomatica so know these ships are smaller. Not too bothered by that, though the places to sit , have a drink and listen to music is more limited.

We splurged and booked a mini suite which is actually just a balcony cabin. I thought it will still be warm and we are in lots of ports late and it would be nice to sit out on the balcony relaxing.

Can you let me know what you did in the ports please. I am starting to look and I tend to use Costa's lists as a guide but we rarely book with them because you usually end up with another language group or worse, cancelled at the last moment.

Did you use the pool at all? It looks as if only one pool. I know they are small but hopefully I could have a swim occasionally.

I hope we don't have an annoying cabin steward. I cannot remember which deck we are on. I think maybe cabin 1055.

    Thanks for any info.

    Regards

    Alicat58

I had the minisuite 1057 which is next to the one you have so the cabin steward will probably be the same (his name is Roni). If you'll have him, I suggest you always to put the do not disturb tag outside the cabin when you are in. Tha cabin has lot of storage space and a huge TV. It also has a nice walk in closet and a good sized balcony. It is only a little bit noisy when there are some parties at night in the pool deck because it is just under the dancefloor.

I have only done 2 excurions with Costa: one was in Porto Torres where we went to Alghero and Capo Caccia and It was very nice but we had very little time to visit Alghero. The other one was in the evening in Tarragona to see the Cirque du Soleil show Varekai that was performed in PortAventura during the days we were in Tarragona.

In every port apart from Mahon there is a shuttle bus service provided by Costa that for 11,95€ takes you to the city centre (and, in Porto Torres also to the Balai beach and costs 10€).

In Mahon we visited the lovely old town that is just at the exit of the ship, you only have to climb some stairs to get in the centre. If you like Gin there is a manufacturer in 5 minutes walk distance from the ship where you can also taste for free the different liquors they produce.

There are some car and scooter rentals just outside the port.

Don't miss the arrival and the departure from Mahon because it is a 30 minutes navigation in a kind of a fjord which is very narrow in some points.

In Ibiza we rented a car in the cruise terminal and we went to Santa Eulalia and then to the centre of Eivissa. There are also some taxis at the exit of the terminal. The old town is very nice but it is a quite difficult walk to go from the lower part to the upper part where is located the cathedral and from where there are some really good views to the city. Taxis can bring you to the cathedral so you can go down by foot which is a bit easier.

In Palma I suggest you not to take the shuttle bus with Costa because outside the cruise terminal there is the public bus stop where you can take the bus #1 to the city centre (there are also some cruisers only bus rides). The cathedral is in a 15 minutes walking time from the bus stop

Regarding Tarragona, the city centre is far from the port so you can take the Costa shuttle or the taxi that takes you to the center for 15€ each way. The city is quite nice, especially the balcon mediterraneo and the cathedral. Even if in the daily program was written to be aware of pickpocketing and criminality but we found the town quite safe and clean (non less safe than the other ports) so don't worry when you'll see the advice

Are you back from your cruise?

Dying to know about the cruise. We are doing it towards the end of September.

I just got off the ship and the cruise was fine, obviously you have to know that the ship is not big, but it is well manteined apart from the elevators that were slow and the bottons to call them were worn out. I only had a problem with my stateroom attendant who was not polite (he entered in our room several times without knocking).

The itinerary is great and the ports are very enjoyable thanks to the long time the ship is docked.

There are two fixed dining options in the main restaurant, the main sitting is at 19 and the late sitting is at 21:30 while the evening buffet is from 19:30 to 22. There are also two "a'la carte" options for dinner: the pizzeria and the burger restaurant

There are no more waiters serving beverages at the table in the buffet but there is a bar station at the back of the buffet where the waiters provide you everything you need and you have to take the beverage to your table by yourself.

The animation team was brilliant and the shows in the theatre were quite nice, in particular the one held the last day of the cruise, but you have to consider that the theatre has not a scenography apart from the lights.

If you have questions about other things or the ports I'll be happy to help you

  15. neo ships usually have the flexible dining but when the ship is fully booked or in the peak season Costa usually uses the two fixed sitting dining option in the main restaurant also onboard the neo ships.

I've sailed onboard neoRiviera in july 2014 and there was the classic 2 sitting dinner, while in october 2015 there was the flexible dining.

I have booked for the end of July 2017 a 7 night cruise onboard neoRiviera and, despite the fact that when I have booked I was told by Costa that there would have been the flexible dining, from a couple of days in my mycosta page it has appeared the option to choose between the two fixed sitting at 7pm and at 9pm

  16. The cruises for the period that goes from April 2018 to April 2019 are out on Costa's Italian website (http://www.costacrociere.it/B2C/I/Pages/Default.aspx)

You can also find a small online brochure with all the cruises listed here http://www.costacrociere.it/Brochure/IT/2017/annuale/index.html#

There aren't many new itineraries, only some in spring onboard Mediterranea and Favolosa in Northern Europe and neoClassica from Bari.

It has been told during an event onboard Pacifica at the beginning of this month reserved to some travel agencies and Italian cruise forums that Diadema will continue to do her itinerary until the christening of the new ship that will be in autumn 2019
