  1. Question for anyone who may be knowledgeable. I'm heading out on the Ecstasy on Saturday. Now the cruise itself I'm not worried about, it's the parking at the Port. What are the chances that the lot gets flooded if the storm stays on it's current track? I figure a direct hit would definitely do it with the storm surge, but not sure about runoff or a lot of rain.

I'm trying to decide if I park there or at the airport.

  2. In your opinion, which cruise ship is nicer, Carnival Ecstasy or Carnival Elation? Both go to the same ports.
I've been on both, but I was on the Elation before the updates. I did enjoy both, mainly because of the fantastic crews. I'd lean a bit more to the Ecstasy, but really that's because it's a three hour drive for me instead of five hours. In fact, I'll be on the Ecstasy in August.

If Elation has the same updates, I think I would go by price. But, that's just me. I think you will probably enjoy either, so don't fret about it too much.

    Enjoy your cruise![emoji2]

  3. When cruising out of Barcelona on Carnival, can you take liquor on board along with a bottle of wine?
Also keep in mind that in Europe they are not as strict with bringing wine/alcohol back in most ports. They usually don't confiscate it when you get back on the ship. Just be reasonable with the amount (e.g. a bottle a port in a backpack)

At least, that was my experience on the Vista two years ago

  4. We are sailing in the Horizon in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if should have Euros or USD to exchange for chips inside the Casino on board. Any incite would be helpful.

Royal Majesty 11/16/12 Bud Light Cruise

    Carnival Legend 11/17/13

    Carnival Glory 3/9/14

    Carnival Dream 10/19/14 WSOP Cruise

    Carnival Valor 1/11/15

    Carnival Horizon 4/13/18!!!!

On Vista, they used USD for the Casino. They did have a ATM for Euros if you needed it.

  5. I was wondering if there was any kind of foods anyone would suggest to buy at any local stores. I want to try fun foods. I know in Mexico it could be fun to do that but did not know about Bahamas

Make sure you try some conch fritters while you are there. I always get an order from somewhere. And yes, these are for eating there.

  6. It was 2/310 on the Victory a couple of weeks ago. I know two years ago I was on the Glory and they had a sale for 10% off one day and was able to grab 2/280. Keep an eye out for a sale if you want to buy on the ship.

I will say though, I think it may have been cheaper in Cozumel this last trip. Like 2/265 or something. I wasn't in the market for it, so I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to the price.

  7. Me and my wife have decided to finally try out the Cheers Package for our upcoming cruise in May. However I did have a few remaining questions that I have not been able to find the answer to yet. Any feedback would be appreciated just looking to better understand some of the program odds and ends.

    1) If I have my spouse's sail card card can I get two coffee's, or two drinks or really two of anything if she is not present utilizing both of our cards. We will both be on Cheers, but were wondering do both of us have to physically go to the bar every time to get us both drinks or can the drink run be completed by one person.

    2) We are going on the Carnival dream and know that the coffee bar has bottled water, tea and other bottled beverages. Are there any other places in the am to get bottled beverages beside the coffee bar or before leaving out on port days?

    3) I am assuming that sake and alcoholic drinks at the sushi bar are included... Should be based upon the program rules.

    4) Any other good tips to maximize value or little unknowns would be great.

We typically pay for drinks via cash and buy 2 bottles to be delivered to the room and have done this for the last 5 or 6 cruises. However with the changes to the program and us already spending $500 or so onboard seems to be worth it to make the switch and not have to worry about staying on budget, counting drinks or needing to have a few drinks in our room.

For 1: I've seen it done, but try to make friends with the bartender. It'll make it easier.

2: Coffee bar is the most likely place in the morning, but if any other bar is open, they'll have them also.

3: Yes, included as long as it's under $50 (which it should be)

4: for me, the Alchemy bar is how I maximize the Cheers program. $11/drink quickly helps you break even. And on top of that, it's a fun place to hang out. If there is no Alchemy, I usually don't even purchase Cheers.

  8. A Visa is required if you are going to Cuba on the Paradise. We have a cruised booked on her and it states that a Visa and passport is required. We will be charged $75 per person on our S&S accounts and the ship will have it for us when we board.

They also said that US credit cards and/or US cash is not accepted. You have to use pesos.

I believe that they will take Euros as well. As anything, double-check if you're going there.

  9. You had a mini fridge? We were in an updated balcony last July and there was no fridge. I think only suites have fridges on victory.

I had an OV on 3/31 and had a mini-fridge. It was hidden in one of the closets.

  10. If I remember correctly, when you come off the pier into the vendor area, go left. They were set up in the back corner (away from the docks) in one of the pavilions. When I was there, there were two ladies present. One was selling the cigars, the other was rolling them. It's a very small setup. I think I walked by it twice before noticing them.

I don't smoke cigars very often, so this was my impulse buy for the port. I figured $25 (or something like that) for 6 was a good deal. They are quite good too.

  11. As a first time solo cruiser, I'd stick with the studio and NCL.

Plus, the Med is a BIG trip for a solo cruiser, first timer or not.

A Med cruise takes a fair amount of planning. The best place to start is on your CC roll call. Try to join groups for excursions, which can be pricey, but half the price if you go independently. Some solos prefer ship excursions, but Ive always found independent ones are more intimate.

Agree with this about joining the roll call. I solo'd the Med this year on the Carnival Vista. I'm typically a wing it as I go type of person on vacation, but a lot of the ports in the Med are no where near the interesting places. It takes a bit of coordination to get transportation into the cities (or elsewhere). If it hadn't been for the people on the roll call, I would have been lost most of the time.

  12. Just trying to figure out a pick up time to tell the transfer people. What times have people started to arrive (waited to board)? Arrive and board right away (time)?

No specific time on my edocs just 12-4. We are platinum.

These days between cruises are crazy! Just did laundry, time to pack again :D

I think I arrived around 10:30-11. But couldn't get on until after 12. When I arrived there was absolutely no line. Then again, I'm not platinum. I think if you can plan on arriving by 11:45-12, you should be in good shape
