Well, there was one, not sure if it's still there since the ship is no longer sailing out of NYC.  And yes, they are very good.  Authentic NYC street hotdogs.... Sabrett's

Unfortunately, no longer authentic NYC dirty water dogs aka Sabretts brand. A few years ago we sailed from NYC and had the real thing from the cart, complete with Sabrett umbrella. Last Feb when we sailed on Breakaway again, they were just generic food service dogs. Still had a few with beers over at O'Shean's, but certainly, not the same thing.

  2. Your logic is absolutely spot on. There is very little incentive for the bartenders to provide good service. There is even less incentive for NCL to make "free" drinks accessible to the guets. The good news that in practice this is absolutely not the case. We've been sailing each year since they introduced the UBP and never had an issue. We're just off a 2 week cruise last week, and the bartenders are as attentive as ever, and the service was impeccable at every opportunity. Further, we were surprised at how hard NCL works at getting drinks to customers. Never long waits at the bars, always bar waiters walking around the theaters, pool areas etc. The service hasn't suffered one bit. One more surprising thing, that we spent a lot of time at the bars and only saw 3 transactions where the guest paid for a drink, everyone else was on UBP. On the UBP front, NCL has really hit a home run!

  3. We were there 2 weeks ago and went to Mambo beach. Ended up sharing a cab and I think the fare was around $6 each. Mambo beach is a beautiful man made beach. Water was pristine, and the sand was spotless. There are numerous vendors renting chairs, and tons of spotless restaurants to grab a bite. We walked towards Aloha beach bar on the left and rented a chair for $10 each, which by the way, came with a free bottle of ice cold water. We spent a few hours on the beach got hungry so we tried the Aloha restaurant and grabbed a few really delicious Dutch treats. We had never tried Dutch food, but just about everything was deep fried, and delicious. After the beach, we walked about 10 minutes down the (safe) street and went to the aquarium, which is essentially right next door. Great exhibits, more great people and all in all one of the best stops on our cruise.

Curacao is one of the most beautiful islands we've ever been to, the people are wonderful, the island is spotless and completely civilized.

  4. We were on this sailing with you. We traveled in from Orlando in the late morning, after receiving a text from NCL to arrive later than our scheduled embarkation. It took us hours to get onto the island, drop off the rental car and then get to the port. Luckily, by chance we called the local cab company and the driver we had was pretty aggressive. She drove on the wrong side of the highway to bypass all the traffic entering the port, and got us there in around 20 minutes. Not sure if I would ever sail out of Port Canaveral ever again. It doesnt seem to be able to handle the traffic.

I must say it was entertaining to look at someone else's photos of my vacation. Hope you enjoyed the cruise as much as we did!

  5. Last year when we were planning our cruise, we were excited to book on the Escape, but after looking at the deck plans we realized there was no Bliss dance club. Something even our PCC didn't know about. We passed and selected the Epic instead. We're planning our next cruise now, and would like to know if anyone who has sailed the Escape can offer some insight regarding what they do on board for dancing. We aren't really excited about dancing under the stars for an hour or so, back in Spice H2O, our real interest is in the night life on board. We usually go the club until they turn the lights on and start washing the floors.

  6. We got off the Epic this past weekend. The drinks were all very well made. With mixed drinks, we almost always got top shelf spirits without asking, and all drinks were well-poured. No watered down drinks. The thing that we did notice is that the cash price for some drinks has gone up to $16.95 with an entire category of spirits listed as "ask your server for price". Also, my favorite scotch, which was included in the package in years past has now been classified as too expensive for the UBP. No big deal, we were very happy to have the UBP as a perk and were able to easily change our drink choices.

  7. I am sailing February 25th until March 4th.

We will be on that cruise with you, and I can promise you that we will be in the club every night, all night. Just as long as there is energy, we will be there.

Look for us and say hi! :)

  8. Hello fellow Cruisers,

Does anyone know the average cigar prices @ the Cigar Bar on the Norwegian Escape? Also, do they have a lighting fee for cigars that aren't purchased there?

I'm curious if I should bring a few with me or just wing it an enjoy what's there or what I can find in the ports.

    Thanks,

    B4TR

We were underwhelmed by the selection on the Breakaway so we brought our own cigars when we cruised on the Escape a few months later. The bar by the cigar lounge had a cutter for us to use and they gave us matches as well. No charge, of course, and no issues whatsoever. I would suggest buying the sticks you like at home and taking them on board.

Just be warned that cigarette smokers often take over the cigar lounge on nights with bad weather.

  9. Hi there

Maybe you could try a lowball offer. After all we would need some extra money for upkeep. :)

Let me know if this might happen. I a looking at retirement soon, so I should have some extra time.

Its going to happen, and Im putting you down to be in charge of painting it.

  10. Looking for about 2000 partners to become equal owners of the cruise ship formerly known as the Carnival Jubilee. She is 733' long, with a 62.5' beam. Weighs in at 47,262 gross tons and has 9 passenger decks. Fits 1960 passengers and 670 crew.

Cabin assignments are on a first paid first choice basis. Heck we can all take turns driving the thing too! Maybe we'll post a sign up sheet somewhere and you can select the day and time you want to be captain. Not sure how we will pay to fuel this thing, Im sure we can just pass a hat around. Cost is only $35,000,000 so that seems like a bargain at least. If I cant raise the asking price here on CC, I wonder if they will at least let me take it out for a test drive.

Of course I'm not serious, but I thought that some Carnival fans would at least find the sale listing interesting. Considering what modern cruise ships cost, the asking price seems really low. I guess once the cruise line 'drives it off the lot' the ship's value starts depreciating like a new car. What is the value of 47,000 tons of scrap steel anyway?

  11. If you want to try the most famous Cuban restaurant in Miami, you must get to Versailles. You will have an absolutely awesome meal. Dont forget the Cuban coffee. I always get a "colada" to go. If you want decent Cuban food at a great location on the bay with plenty of people watching, hit Mambo at Bayside. If you havent been to Miami before be sure to do SouthBeach. Its way overpriced and all the Collins ave restaurants are mediocre ripoffs, but its lots of fun. Grab a drink at Bongos or at the Clevelander. Lots of great cafes and shops on Lincoln ave also. Miami is a great place to visit, enjoy!

  12. Ha! "melt the card" :) I plan to melt the card as well!! ;)

We're not (such) big drinkers, but one night we sat at O'sheehans and asked the bartender to make us a drink we hadn't tasted before. We were in the mood to try something new and were open to a surprise. The bartenders began taking turns trying to figure out what we would really like and just kept making us new drinks to try. There were very few we didn't enjoy, and that visit ended around 3 hours later with us by the pool napping off all the alcohol. I'm still carrying around the last 5 pounds from that trip. The card did get good and warm that afternoon. Good times!

  13. Surprisingly, the WiFi on the Getaway is perfect. Its obviously not as fast as my connection at home, but it works very well. I found no dead spots anywhere on board. There were times when I had a slow connection, but with thousands of passengers using the same network, that will happen. It happens at home, at the office and with a cell phone too.

If you are planning to do work on vacation, Im positive you will not have any issues. If you need a flawless video conference, that might be another story. I spoke with other guests who streamed music and had no issues. YMMV
