  1. are you going on a smart casual night or a formal night?

Whichever it is the dress code for that night will suffice.

Smart Casual - nice shirt and pants, even jeans if nice.

Formal - blazer or suit and tie or tux.

If I missed your question just post back with your concerns.

Now, you will see people in the PG with jackets on a smart casual night - but not everyone does and it's not required.

I checked with the cruise line and the night that I booked is most likely Formal Night (On a 7 day cruise I was told that night 2 and night 6 are most often formal nights) Should I switch to Canaletto that night so the people in my party won't have to dress up? We have "As you Wish" dining, I just want to make sure my group is together for dinner to celebrate a birthday that day. Will the guests in my party have to dress up at all the restaurants on that night no matter where we eat as it is Formal Night? TIA

  2. We went last summer on that same cruise but leaving 8/15 and their were quite a few kids and my kids had a blast. I was really impressed by the kids club and the amount of planned activities they did and that they were not constantly staring at a screen. They did have screen time, but it was not often.

We are going back in February to the Caribbean and can't wait

Thank you for your reply! That gives me great hope!

  3. Great question. We just took our 9 year old son on a Disney Cruise so our HAL cruise to Alaska in August will be a big change (multigenerational family trip). I'm hoping there will be other kids for him to meet and hang out with on the ship. Anyone else cruising with kids on the Seattle to Seattle leaving August 8th?

  4. Hi! HAL for Dummies is amazing! Thanks for setting this up, Walt (btw..I grew up in Encino!)

Anyway, we've only done DCL and soda was free with your meals or at the beverage station. On HAL, are sodas still free with your meal (either MDR, Lido or Room Service?). When do you pay for soda? Also, do they only serve Coke products? I keep reading about cans of soda....I much prefer fountain drinks..is this an option?

Second, due to a late booking, we are doing As you Wish Dining but apparently are getting a promotional voucher for one dinner. What is this? We are a party of 11..does this get us into the MDR at a set time one evening? Or is this going to be for one of the speciality restaurants. A bit confused (another family member booked the cruise).

Also, wondering if children can dine at the HAL kids club? Was considering Le Cirque for my husband and myself and wondered if my son could eat at the Kids Club. Of course, we are traveling in a group, so he could also dine with other family members....TIA:)
