  1. So I guess I will forget about NO for now. The prices to go to New Orleans are really high during those two weeks because of that festival. I'll just spend a day in Houston before the ship leaves and then try to take a flight out of Houston back to NYC at 11 or 12 on disembarkation day. I don't want to go crazy either, I'll do New Orleans at a different date.

  2. The Dawn out of New Orleans and The Jade out of Galveston do the same itinerary. The Port of New Orleans is just a few blocks from downtown New Orleans and The French Quarter.

I would opt for The Dawn and New Orleans. I have done this cruise 4 times now and would love to do it again.

I was thinking of flying to Houston from NO.

I was also thinking of going on the Dawn instead of the Jade but based on all the research that I have done a lot more people like the Jade more than they liked the dawn. Ah, the stress continues!!

Maybe I should just go with the Dawn..

  3. Hi,

In February I'm leaving out of NYC to Texas to get on the jade for a seven day cruise.

After months of analyzing, i have decided that there's nothing in Texas that i would like to do and i would rather go to New Orleans instead.

I want to go to New Orleans two days prior to embarkation and enjoy my time there and then leave to Texas on embarkation day and from there go straight to the port.

Does anyone see a problem with this picture? or anything i should worry about? I haven been really stressed because i haven't been able to plan the perfect trip but this seems like it would be good enough.

  4. Which ship are you sailing on ? Which cruise line?

Port of Houston Authority is not a name of the cruise terminal or port. It is the government or organization which oversees and regulates things around the port.

There are 2 cruise ports in this area.

Galveston cruise terminal and Bayport cruise terminal

    Norwegian jade.

Well i did it we are all booked with the Dining and the drink package. They also have my 3rd passenger free but to me that was a joke as it was the same price yesterday paying for my son and getting a choice. Well actually its more today as I had to ad the taxes for our dinner package.

now to get my flights booked. Really wanted to do a 135 departure from IAH but everyone has scared me into pushing it back so found some 330 flights for about $300 more  but guess its better than scrambling the day we depart looking to rebook flights. Hoping the extra 2 hours is enough.

Once that is booked we are off to find hotel and excursions.

Did you check southwest Airlines? That's what I'm using, seems to be the cheapest going to Houston.

  5. Hello!

I will also be on the jade but in February.

Why are you considering IAH instead of Hobby (just curious) and are you planning on arriving there that same day or a day before?

Since i'm leaving out of NYC i will be heading out a day earlier just in case there's any crazy weather.

Before i booked this cruise i was debating whether i wanted the Jade out of TX or the Dawn out of NO and really wanted to leave out of New Orleans (since i can't find nothing interesting to do in TX for those 2 extra days ill be there) but i have found far more positive reviews about the jade so that's what i went with.

    Can't wait!!!!!

  6. Which ship are you sailing on ? Which cruise line?

There are 2 cruise ports in this area.

Galveston cruise terminal and Bayport cruise terminal.

From what you are saying, I'm guessing you are leaving from Bayport cruise terminal

In that case, if you are coming here one day earlier, staying in Kemah or Houston area, and do things around there would be better choice because it is closer to that port.

in Kemah there is the Kemah boardwalk and near that area, there is the Space Center

    http://spacecenter.org/

    http://www.kemahboardwalk.com/

After your cruise and if you are thinking of staying one more day, then spend that time in Galveston.

That's weird. I'm going on the Norwegian Jade and it says "Port Name & Location

    Port of Houston Authority

Ship will DEPART from this port".

  7. Hello,

I am leaving NYC this Feb and heading out to Houston for a 7 day cruise. I have decided that i am leaving a day earlier and "MAYBE" leaving a day later. I just can't figure out what to do. I have checked trip adviser and i don't think I want to do museums or zoos.

    So my questions are;

    1) I am seeing a lot of threads on here about "Galveston", is this place worth looking into (if it's not too far from Houston that is).

    2) Are there any big theme parks in Houston?

    3) What can you tell me about "Kemah Boardwalk"?

I would appreciate any extra help i can get. Like i said, for some odd reason i just don't see anything interesting to do or maybe i'm not checking the correct websites.

    Thanks

  8. Yes, guests have always been responsible for the gratuities when purchasing the package, ever since the package was first introduced. There were a few months when the package was given as a promo, and the gratuities were included. The promo changed to where you are given the package, but guests have to pay the gratuities on the price of the package. Some feel they are entitled to have the gratuities included since they once were.

Ah, I see now. Do we know yet if we are going to be able to pre pay for it? Or will it be in each receipt? Can we open a tab on the ship? I don't remember no one ever doing that on my last cruise.

  9. Hello, I been lurking for months and I have gained a large amount of knowledge in regards to NCL and their ships and for that I thank you all!

I do have some last minute questions.

    1) Can I grab food/drinks from the buffet/bars and bring it with me anywhere around the ship or do I have to eat/drink it at the buffet/bar area?

    2) Do the dailies include activities for every hour of the night also (a.m.)?

    3) I'm really stressing the embarking process since i have no idea how it works, any info to ease my mind?

I'm pretty sure i had other questions, can't remember them though.

and any last minute tips? I had to ask...:p
