We've been spoiled having been on larger ships with the Alchemy Bar, which has quickly become a favorite of ours - as with most everyone else! Last time on the Dream, our Bartender at the Alchemy concocted me up a version of an Smoked Old Fashioned, using a burnt Cinnamon Stick in the glass...it was freaking awesome! We'll be on the Fantasy next month, and I was wondering which bar may be able to produce the best Old Fashioned (and Bloody Mary, while we're at it) while we're on board. Thanks!

While it's pushing it, I definitely think it's doable with an early debarkation time. We're typically off the boat well before 9:30, so you shouldn't have a problem, barring unforeseen circumstances. That said, IF something happens and you miss your flight, you can't blame Carnival.

Thanks to all of your for your advice!
I think one of the biggest things I will personally miss is getting to know my wait staff; but at the end of the day, that's not too big of a thing. I guarantee I'll get to know the bartenders, though!!!

We have sailed carnival exclusively for 9 years and are trying out the Getaway in 1 week. I'll let you know my thoughts when we get back.

Hey everyone! Need some suggestions/ motivation/ Validation here. We have been loyal Carnival cruisers for a few years now, who have fallen in love with both the Dream and sailing from New Orleans. However, I think we're about to try the Getaway out of MIA.
For those who have been on both ships, how similar are the crowds, both demographically as well as in how full the boats feel?
I'm very excited to try the whole Freestyle thing, as well as getting the experience different kinds of meals while on board. Also, it appears as though the Getaway has a ton of bars---and now Margaritaville!!!
I guess I would like opinions on what we can expect. I know it's a cruise, and it'll be a blast no matter that...but what kind of large differences can we expect? Thanks yall!

On which ship?

Do all of the Dream Class have smaller ext afts, next to the wraps on Deck 7? They are missing the sofa and coffee table?
I believe so. But the trade off is that you get a balcony that is twice the width of a normal balcony. They're very much worth it!

Does anyone know how much $ the taxes would be on a 80$ bottle of rum if ordered through bon voyage?
I would assume that will be dependent upon which port you are in, since Sales Tax rates differ in different States (and cities).

All of us drinkers know we have those favorite bars with our favorite bartenders. You know, the ones who give us the best drinks and the most entertainment...
I'm looking for those types on the Dream. Any of you recent cruisers on the Dream have any go to bars with go to bartenders?
CHEERS!!
Our last cruise on Dream, we buddied up with a couple bartenders at the Ocean Plaza Bar. As soon as we say down, they scooted on over to us and quickly took care...even if we were just getting Cokes via Bottomless Bubbles. The bartenders at the Aft Pool bar were pretty good, too.

This will be my first time dining in the Steakhouse! Also, the first cruise with my wife :)

I hope someone can answer this from personal experience. Carnival did not give a good answer and I think they really don't know.
We are doing a B2B and want to order some bottles of Rum, Vodka thru Carnival. If we have any left in the bottles after the first leg, can we leave them in the room and use the rest on the second leg? Or does the room stewart take the out after the first leg.
We have the same room both legs.
Thanks for the advice from the experts.
Nancy
If you're ordering them through Carnival, I don't foresee your steward removing them. Carnival has made their revenue.
If that's not the case, you can just have one heck of a party on the last evening for any friends you make on that first sailing!

Oddly enough, my parents will be in that room on the next cruise (and ill be in the big balcony next door)...so feel free to leave them a surprise of some sort! We love being in the aft on the Dream. We've always done the 7th deck, but to get the extra large balcony on this one we had to go down to 6. It's convenient to the elevators, dining rooms, and aft pool and deli. You ought to love it!

Awesome ship, great size boat, never crowded. Love the FunShip 2.0 additions; especially EA Sports Bar and Guy's Burger Joint.

A couple cruises ago, I woke up super early at 4am on the first day...and thought, "Hmm...I sure would like pizza" so I marched up to good ole Pizza Pirate. The guy looked at me like "what in the world is this dude doing!" Ive gotta say, 4 am pizza was amazing. And being out on the ship so early is really cool...it felt like I had a whole ship all to myself, because I saw no passengers (duh!) and very few crew. I recommend doing it once...it was a cool feeling!

I have one idea. when Galveston went to selected check in times my already completed check in status went to not completed. I had done mine before the now policy had been put in place. I added the check in times and re-printed my boarding passes. If you are sailing in a port where they have started the check in times you may have to redo you boarding pass. Just a thought.
Good idea, but I don't think that's it. We printed all of our Boarding Pases a few weeks ago...if I go in now, my wife and I both have Y's, but none of the people in my parents' room do. So weird!

The price for our interior inspiration room in Feb. Is slowly going down. About $70 cheaper at this point. Would I get anything out of calling? An ocean view is cheaper now too. Don't want to change rooms as we are booked next to friends but maybe on board credit? I've never tried to negotiate for credit or anything like that. Thanks for any advice!

If you're booked on an "Early Saver" rate, then you can get a price drop, as long as the room category you're seeing is the same one you've booked. If you've already paid in full, the difference will be given to you in the form of Stateroom Credit.
Just go to Carnival's website and search for Price Protection Form, and complete it!

I'm kind of shocked to hear all of the negative feedback regarding the Steakhouse. My wife and I have decided to go for the first time during our upcoming February cruise (well, my first time but nor hers); after reading some of the responses, I'm almost wondering if we should just stick to the MDR instead.
I've always heard the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was spectacular...and while I typically take negative things on the board with a grain of salt, I'm thinking maybe the Steakhouses are slipping to the point of not being worth the extra $35. It's food for thought, I guess.

On the ships I've had this on (Conquest, Liberty, and Dream), I was not given a can of soda. The bartender would open a can and pour it in a glass; any soda that was remaining would be left in the can for the next drink order.
The problem with this is that the cokes are typically not cold; they're room temp (from my experience). Also, you're not really getting a full coke--though you can get as many as you want. No cokes back to the room unless you buy the drink, unfortunately.

The Dream was in dry dock in September of 2012 (a few months less than the normal 5 year cycle). It's first inaugural season in the U.S. was in 2009. 2.0 features were announced in late 2011. These new features were built into the Breeze. which started sailing in 2012. So during the first Dream dry dock they probably had not designed the retro-fit of 2.0 to the Dream Class ships. The Magic will be retro-fit with 2.0 during its dry dock in February of 2016. My guess is that the Dream will go to dry dock sometime in 2017 and get the upgrades plus post 2.0 items like the Alchemy, etc.
When I was onboard in January, the CD noted during a Q&A that DryDock with 2.0 additions would occur in 2017. I haven't seen anything to corroborate this, though.
The Dream would be the PERFECT ship with Guys and Blue Iguana...I'll miss the ole EA Sports Bar from Liberty and Conquest, since I don't think they're doing that anymore.

I can't provide you any guidance on Dawn, but I will say CCL Dream is an amazing ship. She's well layed out, not cluttered, never feels crowded, and the service has always been great in my opinion! Also, embarkation/ debarkation in N'Awleans is second-to-none. In and out is super easy!

Logic, common sense prevails. Carnival charges extra for Cloud 9 privileges, why would they let anyone in just to take a shower?
OP stated that the showers were not in the key card area, and were out in the hallway area. If you're not familiar with the setup and don't have direct knowledge of the process, then you're just guessing. And guessing didn't help the OP...plus, seems that you were incorrect.

I highly recommend the Pasta. You really get enough for 2 people in one serving, and it's fresh and reasonably fast.
-
No, I dont believe so. Lido Deck and Pasta only

If it's Hennie, I think he's absolutely terrible. Doesnt engage, isnt visible...just doesnt meet the standard that others, like Butch have set for me. During one of the Q&A's, he made excuses for why he wasnt visible...I know they're busy, but it really sounded like he was whining. Had to have been a better way to answer.
I'm really hoping he isnt on the Dream next February.
Carnival Fantasy - Old Fashioned

I believe they called it the Classic Old Fashioned. I've never had one on land as good as that one was!
A frozen old fashioned? That sounds amazing!
