  1. Just now, rockmom said:

I did mine a while ago, but I think it asked me to turn on the camera (you need to give the app permissions for your camera) and then it 'sees' it and enters it.  Because I didn't have my daughter's passport in hand, I entered hers manually, that's also an option in the app, just takes a little longer.

When I hit the scan passport button, the camera came on and I focused it on my passport page with all my info and photo but it did not do anything and there was no button for me to click to start a scan or take a photo and tapping the screen did not do anything either.

  2. We usually buy the drink package that has an 18 percent tip built in, but add an extra dollar to each order, which keeps our glasses full and service fast.  Not sure how much that ends up totaling by the end of the trip but probably a lot, lol. We always get the my time dining so we usually have a different wait staff at every dinner so it is harder to tip at the end of the voyage. We leave about $40 or so for the room steward.

  3. I had been tracking our October Allure cruise to see if/when the 20% discount became available. It had always been $49 (without gratuity) and two weeks ago the 20% discount popped up making the cost $44.

    Total cost $363.44.

Really in the huge big scheme of things if $5 a day for the 20% discount matters, maybe you shouldn't be going on the cruise anyway. Yes, I took advantage of it, but I would have bought the package at some point anyway.

I think you are missing the point of what everyone is upset about. It is not 5 bucks a day. It is that people sailing on the the same or similar cruises are paying different prices for the same thing. People on my cruise, for example, have paid $310, $344, $388 and over $400 for the same premium package sailing on the same ship on the same day and the math of a 20 percent sale doesn't match up for anything other than the $310 price. And when they call customer service they are all given different answers. They are not upset about the cost, they are upset about fairness and deceptive business practices.

  4. We have reservations for the night before our cruise in June at the Hyatt House. Never stayed there but seems like a good hotel. The price we got is $110 for the night for a Government employee rate, plus taxes. Free airport shuttle. Cruise shuttle is $10 a person leaving every hour next day. We will probably just grab a taxi or Uber, seems cheaper and easier. Here is the information on the hotel if anyone is interested:

  5. I was just in contact with a current passenger on Explorer of the Seas via RCI facebook. She told me that the price to purchase a premium package was $57 a day, Ultimate was $67 a day and select $47 a day, prices included gratuities. So for example total price for a premium for a 7 day cruise including grats would be $399 so the 20 percent off on board prices still makes no sense.

The person on board the Explorer let me know that the above on board prices went on sale 20 percent off on the 2nd day of the cruise. She also confirmed that the small print on the price board states that these prices include grats.

  7. How were you able to talk them into OBC? They basically told me I was S...t out of luck. Even after 20 minutes of going back and forth!!!

I finally got through to a supervisor. I explained that other people got the package at 20 percent off the advertised price and paid $310 including tips. I also explained raising your price 20 percent then having a 20 percent off Sale was deceptive and illegal business practices. He then agreed to the OBC because he could not over ride the package price in the computer. I think he just realized that the prices on line didn't make sense.

  8. I had the exact same issue and they issued me an OBC as well but I kept her on the phone until I received the confirmation email.

    Hope you received one.

Ok, was able to confirm they put $156.00 in my OBC account like promised. between that, the $200 OBC I got from RCI for booking and an additonal $200 OBC from my Travel Agent, I am feeling pretty good about this cruise now. I probably will use it to cover specialty dining and gratuities. I just wish it would not be so hard to get something like this taken care of.

  9. After talking to four different people and getting many different answers I finally was able to speak to a supervisor. He told me that RCI has the right to change prices when they want and they recently raised the on board price for the packages. He said if someone purchased the premium package on board the price would be $59 a day. They then put our packages on sale 20 percent off of that at $47 pus 18 percent tips. I pointed out that several other folks on my roll call got the package at $310 not the $388 they were trying to charge me. He insisted there was nothing he could do. I then pointed out raising your prices by 20 percent then having a 20 percent off sale back to your regular price was considered fraud and was illegal. I was then told he could not change the price in the computer but would give me the difference in on board spending credit. So I bought two packages at the $388 and I am supposed to have about $150 added to my account but I guess I won't be able to check for sure until I am aboard.
