Well, if you really want to clear things up, then you might want to call it by it's actual name, The Captain's Pasta Bar, not Pasta Bella. 😉

I'm looking at a menu on the Carnival Dream from a year ago and it says Pasta Bella on the top of the pasta menu.

  2. It's really not that bad.

Contrary to ports like Miami and Ft. Lauderdale that draw a large percentage of passengers that fly in, Galveston is a strong "drive to" port. It draws millions of passengers that live within driving distance, which is why not only Carnival has increased their presence there, but Princess, NCL and Royal have also upped the ante in the Houston/Galveston market.

BTW, I've done the drive from the Houston Intercontinental airport to Galveston and it's not any more tedious than driving from Orlando to Port Canaveral. And Houston Hobby is about half the distance to Galveston which is another good option for those flying in.

they also do not have car rental offices open on Sundays, so if renting a car and cruising out on sunday you can not drop off car there.

  3. If we win our bowling league (final is tomorrow night) I promised I'd build our partners a Stanley Cup-type trophy. I'm thinking of how I could use those ships to add a little glitz and glamour to the trophy. :D

How about this? We use it as a traveling trophy for nascar fantasy league

Thank you for the info ;)

  5. Does this mean I can book past guest if I have a Princess Captain's circle number? I have cruised with Princess before and would love to get past guest rate on Carnival?

    Can anyone advise?

No, each cruiseline is separate. What they were referencing on past guest bookings was to book there Princess cruises, not there Carnival cruises. They only cruised on Carnival once which was back in 1980, so no other cruises for Carnival after...

  6. I find Carnival's website to be less than friendly. Part of it is that I'm more used to going to Princess's and Holland America's websites, but part is that it's not that well designed.

I managed to do the online check-in for our cruise, but for some reason my booking doesn't come up in my personal info. When I tried to add it, I received a message that said there was a problem--and it locked up the screen.

My only Carnival cruise was on the Carnivale back in the 1980s. Our travel agent was able to book us with past passenger rates using our Princess Captain's Circle info. But I'd like to get credit for having sailed on Carnival so that we can attend the past passenger party.

If you have any proof of being on the Carnivale you should call Carnival and fax it, like a picture of you boarding or your sail & sign card or the documents, Carnival may not have been keeping records for you that far back...

  7. Hello everyone! My wife and I will be wokring on the Magic for a week when it gets the Galveston. Carnival put us in room 1210. When I check the ship layout it says that there is one twin bed and one sofa bed......can we push them together to make one bed?? This will be the 12th cruise we have been on and have not seen a room like this before. Can anyone help me with what this room is going to look like???? The ship map also does not have a picture of this room.

    Thanks in advance!

It looks like it houses 2 singles from what I can find on out. The bed and the sofabed are head to toe with each other in this pic from The Carnival Freedom 1A's, the Magic still don't have any pics out yet, or the dream...

  8. we cruise in feb. so we have pretty calm seas, they are wet from the night, I think they hose them off, I remember some water coming down from above us like a sprinkler type thingy... The point about the boats above and no shade, if the sun is directly overhead you might not get sun but you will when it clears the boats. We had a lot of sun, I guess it depends on the position of the sun, the direction of the ship and what side you are on...:p After saying all that, we loved our cove on the Dream and we booked another cove on the Carnival Magic. :D

  9. John heald just posted this updated list of the ships that offer drinks on us program...

    John Heald <3

The Drinks Are On Us program which is where slot plyers will get free cocktails if they pass 1500 points while in the casino has been expanded and is now on:

CQ, DE, DR, FA, FD, GL, IM, LE, LI, MC, MI, PR, SP, SL, TI, VA, VI. That's how the beards sent me the names. Let me know if you need me to translate? Thats 17 out of 23 ships that have it by the way

  10. If you look at Woodey's cruise list, you will see he got caught on the Spirit. So did I last Sunday. And my rum runner was not packed with anything that would raise suspicion. I had it wrapped up in my black bathing suit, in the dead center of the suitcase with clothes on top. In fact, the only thing in that suitcase were clothes, not even toiletries, so apparently, San Diego has the Super Scanners. I did talk with one other who did not get caught, so there still is the luck of the draw, but San Diego is usually the most laid back port.

If you go to the Rum runner site, it says (for cruising we recommend placing the Flasks on the bottom of the checked bag). So to place it dead center was not the right thing to do

  11. I'm a beer girl though....that seems impossible...good thing I saved up lots of money for this cruise! haha

I just think its an interesting subject...seems to be almost a sport!

I still smuggle beer on, gift wrap it. they dont search every bag, it is the luck of the draw or bad luck of the draw.

  12. Speaking only for myself and what I have observed from friends and family, I'll tell you why some people look forward to dressing up and eating lobster on a cruiseship. I live in the Midwest. Yes, good steak is easy to find, but lobster costs PLENTY. *Some* people are taking a cruise because it is an affordable way to experience "exotic" destinations, try new food, and get all fancied up in formal dress clothes that are normally reserved for weddings and funerals- all in one place at one price- while earning a middle income salary. We are not all eating lobster and prime rib ever weekend, so it is a treat for some people, no matter how mediocre you may think it is.

I also eat it when we can get it, We are also midwesterners and Lobster is not available in Lake Michigan. We are not able to buy it fresh that often to bring it home and cook it ourselves. I like all shellfish and I know I can get most of them on cruiselines.

  13. I saw the thread about buffet etiquette; what about elevator etiquteet? We were so annoyed on our recent Freedom of the Seas cruise by people who would force themselves into over-crowded elevators, without allowing passengers trying to get OUT of the elevator to exit first. Out before in - right??

    Right;)

  14. I'm sure Ken will come up with more restaurants since he travels all over the place but...

Probably the most famous restaurant is the Columbia in Ybor (E-bor) city. That would be west on RT60 (Adamo Dr) to 22nd St and taake a right if I remember correctly.

It is a great place to go. Right down to the flaminco dancers show. It hase been around for about 100 yrs. Spanish/Cubann food.

    It is a great place.

10 to 15 minutes from where you are staying and easy to get to.

    Jeff

Google...Columbia Restaurant...just did this and it shows pics...menu...make reservations and more.

It truely is a bit of Tampa history.

I have been checking into the Columbia Restaurant, but the sites that I checked gave the restaurant very bad reviews. Have you been to the restaurant lately, and are the reviews unfounded.

    Thanks
