  1. We did the round the world in 2017 and have booked 2020. We arranged majority of our excursion privately or as "do it yourself" tours, including a 4 day India excursion. In places where we were concerned about safely getting back to the ship on time (i.e. Petra, Jordan) we made sure to do the ship's tour. Prices privately may be 1/2 of Oceania's price. Also, make sure to check your "role call" here on Cruise Critic as other traveler may be seeking to fill out excursions they have arranged which means the heavy lifting has already been assigned or completed! You can view videos of our 2017 trip on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE_Ks2zI1xOTLqBXm0OnzDw and I have just put up a sort of photo gallery/blog spot which is a work in progress. http://www.rfromm.com

  2. I always wonder how people know this type of information?

Were you seated near the hostess stand and could observe this?

Actually waiting in the coffee bar which is at the entrance to the Grand Dining Room. But one of the men on our trivia team also relayed the fact that he was asked to change into more appropriate footwear. I would not count on Birks as being adequate.....

  3. Guess they need to do a few more wait-listings and less GTY. On our Tahiti cruise last year we received a very nice up-sell offer (after 2 less than great offers) to a PH1 which we jumped on. We are booked on an upcoming HAL cruise in a GTY where every cabin class is showing sold out.... Wonder if we'll be getting a requests to cancel on that one?

  4. Wife and I greatly enjoyed our classes on th e Marina during our French Polynesia cruise last year. It was a fun diversion and getting the recipes for some of our favorite dishes was a bonus. As said above, much of the prep work is done and you aren't going to learn any fancy techniques. The classes have to fit the lowest common denominator;)

  5. Rumpymuffin,

No "tricking out" needed. The iPhone simply connects to the ships Wifi access points like any other Wifi connection on land. If you want internet connection while roaming the streets of foreign ports, you may want to activate a roaming data package with your carrier. Generally that is fairly expensive in most foreign countries. When I am staying in another country for an extended time period I have used a local SIM card for data in an older iPhone with good success. On a cruise, that doesn't work too well. For our Med cruise next month I am trying out a google project Fi phone which reportedly provides data connection in 120+ countries, albeit at pretty slow 3G speeds.

You likely should have the tech team onboard help you connect your devices.

  6. I think a better idea would be to surprise them at a going away event beforehand. That way you could help with the boarding and travel and enjoy the cruise from moment 1.

Regarding the filming, don't think Oceania would be particularly interested in using video of your family event. If you have looked at their materials, they are quite professional with actors depicting a variety of well chosen demographics. Nothing left to chance.

  7. So my travel agent is moving from her current agency to another. (Apparently the commission structure is better). I have a deposit on an Oceania cruise with her at the old agency. Does anyone know if I can move that reservation to her at the new agency? At the moment only a fully refundable deposit has been paid, but my cabin class is showing "wait list" currently for that cruise. So, simply canceling and rebooking doesn't seem like a great option. I suspect first guy on the wait list would get my cabin!

    Thanks for the input.

  8. School nurses and employee clinics give allergy shots all the time. You certainly would not be advised to give yourself your shots because you would not be able to handle your own emergency should that arise. Start with your allergist for their thoughts.

  9. We too enjoyed this TA. Weather was quite nice and everyone seemed to be in good spirits throughout the journey.

This was my first HA cruise and I was a little disappointed by the MDR and buffet food. (We had just gotten off an Oceania Caribbean cruise the day before sailing which had outstanding food and may have skewed my expectations). Scrambled eggs and omelets had a funny taste and DW thinks they may be powdered.

We were fortunate to dine with the Captain and his wife on the night of the Black and White Gala celebration and that meal and the one time we ate in the PG were excellent!

The Cellar-master put on several wine tasting events which were fabulous and happy hour in the Crows nest was fun! Entertainment was quite good. The BBK band was out of this world and I could blame my poor dancing on the rocking of the ship :o Harry James played in the Crows Nest at the end of Happy Hour and I thought it was too load for the room. Couldn't continue conversations easily. Made it to most of the shows.

One disappointment was we didn't realize that the Piano Bar was THE later night place to be until the last few days of the cruise (although the piano player seemed to take more time off then he played). Disembarkation in Rome went well for us (We had a tour and got off in the X group to meet the car)

I was surprised as well that they started some work on the ship while we were still aboard. The area outside the library/coffee bar was actually cordoned off the day before we hit Rome.

  10. Having completed a fabulous week on the Riviera on March 20th, I can say without equivocation that I would not hesitate to take another cruise with them this summer or fall. Food was fabulous, staff terrific. The only downside was we had to get off and get on a Holland American transatlantic.

Everyone will make their own decisions, of course; but, our cruise was without problems.
