I was on this sailing and all of the Christmas trees were up. There was christmas carol singing around the main christmas tree and a special christmas show in the theatre. A lot of christmas music being played in the Queens room too.

    Thank you for the information.

  2. For those of you who have recently sailed on the Dec 8th transatlantic cruise, could you advise if most of the Xmas decorations were in place on this crossing. We have sailed on Dec 15th on several occasions but wished to sail eastbound next year.

  3. On the 13th July sailing the hot tubs were just tepid. I have always used the indoor pool/hot tubs during the morning and after a few of days decided not to bother because they were so cool. I spoke with the crew about the temperature and they just shrugged their shoulders.

  4. I have two different ones at home but I feel the best one for travel is one I got from Walmart. It is very cheap but works great. The brandname is " Mainstays Handheld Steamer" you can buy it off the Walmart site for $12.99. My suggestion is when you put water in it do not fill it to where the maximun line is always fill it slightly below the line otherwise hot water may spit out and you will get burned. I had it right in my carry on bag and no problem getting it thru the xray along with my curling iron. You may want to bring an extension cord to use with it.

Thank you Jeffrey1950. I will make a shopping trip to Walmart to purchase.

  5. I was just reading a review that posed another question. I know there are irons in the laundry rooms. But am I allowed to bring a steamer with my to use in my room? Or is that against the rules? Also, I assume I may bring a hair straightener? So for the questions! Thanks!

Could you share the brand of travel steamer that you have? I've tried one that had very disappointing results.

  6. We always use Arecibo. See : http://www.arecibocc.com/rates.php

Always very reasonable, and locally based in Brooklyn.

    Stewart

I tried to use Arecibo on one of our recent voyages - they left us waiting at the pier for well over an hour (despite numerous calls to their dispatch office) and we nearly missed our train back home. We were told it was because we had booked online but we received no apology from them at all.:( We had to take one of the fixed price limos in the end or we would not have made it Penn Station in time. I guess it was just a bad day for them.

  7. There is a ferry from the pier in Manhattan straight to Lincoln harbour right outside the hotel. If you can all manage your cases from the cab to ferry then ferry to hotel this would be a less expensive option.

Just price a ride to the pier west 39 th street mid Manhattan. The ferry cost is $9 each seniors 62+ are $8.25 children a bit less. You can buy tickets at ferry ticket office in Manhattan and hotel on Weehawken side.

Great hotel have used it often. The ferry in Manhattan has a free shuttle bus to all area of Manhattan and back again.

Great information, thank you. Happy to hear the hotel is good especially with so many to choose from. It has excellent views of the New York skyline I've heard.

  8. Suggestion:

Contact the hotel and ask them if they they can arrange to pick you - and your bags - up from Newark Airport (About 30 minutes from the hotel, in New Jersey).

If they can (at whatever price you agree; it might even be comp.), then book the cruise line's transfer to Newark Airport; all those bags will fit nicely in their bus. Cunard will hit you around $50 pp for that and you can also pre-book it.

At least it will give you cost comparison with the Dial7 quote

Thanks Canuker - maybe I didn't explain our plans very well. We will be disembarking QM2 at Redhook and staying for 2 nights at the Sheraton, Lincoln Harbor. We will not be at Newark Airport.

  9. Ten suitcases? How many hat boxes?

Too funny:)! It's a wedding voyage for a group of 30. Only 14 of us Brits will be sightseeing in NYC - thought I would be nice and take everyone's cases to the hotel whilst the others take the ferry to Manhattan and see the sights. My husband and I will catch up with everyone either at the Empire State or Top of the Rock at sunset.

It's taken me 50 years but I can now manage with just one medium case for 2 weeks.;)

  10. Your first priority, I'd say, is finding a form of transport that can accommodate ten suitcases.

You may need a minivan, at the very least.

We anticipated having to use a minivan - Dial 7 quoted in excess of $200 + toll and tip. Seems high? How much is the toll, do you know?

  11. Having sailed on a TA several times I have noticed that there are two lines of vehicles that can be hired by disembarking passengers; the yellow cabs and the flat rate hires. Does anyone know if these hire vehicles would take you to a hotel in Weehawken, New Jersey? If so, what would be the approximate cost including tolls?

We have lots of luggage (10 suitcases) too!:)

  12. Congrats to the happy couple! I am on that sailing as well so will send positive thoughts their way :)

Thank you so much. Some of the group have already received their Cunard travel documentation in the mail so we are getting very excited.

The bride-to-be and groom have decided to sail over by themselves on July 6th so they will find out who the Captain is a week early.:)

  13. A coffee card is available to pre-purchase at a cost of $40* which allows guests, 10 regular coffees once on board (Speciality lattes, liqueur coffees, hot chocolate, extra flavours/toppings, larger sizes are not included)

Yes I have been able to get a latte FOC in MDR

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

    Thank you for the info.

  14. Could somebody who has recently sailed give up to date information on the coffee card please? The cost, what is included etc.

And are cappuccinos and lattes still available free of charge in the MDR?

  15. Captain Wells was on in July 2016 when we renewed our vows at 30 years, we were very pleased, he stayed after the ceremony for cake and a drink, much better than when we renewed at 20 on a princess cruise. We also have the ship photographer create a album, which was very well done.

A lovely photograph - thank you for sharing.

We will also be asking the Cunard photographers to create a wedding album - something that we have decided we should not try to do ourselves. We are a group of 30+ so unfortunately we can not be accommodated in the elegant boardroom off the Commodore Club.

  16. Thank you guys. We do not know Captain Philpott but we have had the privilege of sailing on the QM2 with Captain Wells on several occasions - he has a great sense of humor and we loved his noontime stories.

I am sure both will make the occasion special.

  17. $150p/p OBC for a 7 day cruise .

Add to that Stockholder , Military , TA Cruise Night Sale , Group Amenity , and Cunard Sale Promo OBC's and you can do very well.

    Thank you for your reply.

In this case there seems to be little point in using 2 certificates for this voyage - my invoice already states $300 OBC from Cunard (using only my certificate). I called Cunard customer service yesterday and gave the representative exact details of my voyage and she stated the OBC was $300 pp if the certificates were in different names. My travel agent of course was told something different. Not sure who is correct this time.

  18. A quick question - if you were to use 2 future cruise certificates (one for my husband and one for myself) could somebody confirm the OBC per person for a balcony cabin on a 7 night voyage. These are certificates issued with a $300 person deposit.:)

  19. Does anyone know who the captain will be on the QM2 voyage that departs on July 13th 2018?

My daughter will be getting married on this sailing and either the captain or his deputy will officiate.
