Similar but not the same…we did a South American cruise from Chile, Round the Horn and back to Buenos Aires, in January. We were allowed one hold suitcase of 23 kg, cabin roll aboard and one personal item. Managed quite easily.. The easy answer is layers.

Travelled in jeans, took two pairs of jogging pants. Wore a padded jacket to travel but by the time we landed in South America, rolled it into a vacuum bag and slipped into rollaboard. Wore trainers to travel and took another pair in bag..Sketchers which had been sprayed with waterproof spray. Took three woolen jumpers that squash up small and a  fleece. Also packed summer weight cropped trousers ,T shirts and sandals, as well as formal and smart casual evening wear and formal shoes. I took thermal vests but didn’t need them.

When we cruised to Alaska found the evenings less dressy than other cruises.

Will repeat what others have said..cross pack in case of one case being delayed. Also take change of clothes/ underwear , nightwear and swimsuit /flip flops in rollaboard as well as all medications.

Waterproofing the sketchers is a brilliant idea - thanks!  We do always cross pack as a rule, but it's nice to read how others have managed.  Sometime I forget about the onboard laundry - that will moset definitely be taken advantage.

  2. I have two -

One was a private tour of the Vatican and Vatican Museum that we had before boarding the Edge for a Med cruise.  The amazing part was getting to see things that the normal tours did not cover and to have a tour guide that had an "inside" for the tour.  Best 4 hours I ever spent touring.

Second was a private tour in St. Maarten - the driver and guide was great and he took us to some out of the way places that we never would have found - and he told us so much of the history of the island.  Made us wand to go back for a land tour.

OHHH..and we did a Tapas tour with Devour in Barcelona - that was really a lot of fun too.

  3. We had heard so much about cruising from my sister in law and we were looking for a new vacation idea around our anniversary, so we went to her TA and booked on the  RCCL Jewel out of Boston.  We were hooked - where else can you unpack once and go to so many places?

It was a great cruise, met lots of wonderful people (still keep in touch ) and even ate dinner at the main table one night!

I do miss the dining room and meeting new people, but love the ships.

  4. Hi!

We just recently booked a 16 Day early October 22 cruise - Vancouver/Alaska/Hawaii and are trying to figure out how to pack.  Do you all do one suitcase for Alaska and another for Hawaii?  We will be flying cross country so this is a consideration as well.

Any tips and ideas would be great - we are veteran cruisers so we know all the basic tips - this is a specific question.

    This would be amazing.

To be honest, all the negativity on here has caused me to cancel more than once and go back to my tried, true, and trusted line. Based on a long discussion with the owner of the travel agency I use, I've decided to give Edge a try for Feb and am really trying to stay positive and excited about it, but being on here sometimes makes it hard. I TRY to avoid the negative posts, but it can be a challenge sometimes.

I truly appreciate everyone who is positive and shares their positive experiences.

We are on the Edge right now and are very much enjoying it.   Other than the kind of blah martini bar, it’s been a great cruise to date.  Staff has been lovely and as an example we were able to change an excursion at the last minute without any issue.

  6. If you have the 'all-inclusive' package (which they are now raising from $385 for the week to $446 for the week), then you don't get to keep the glasses. If you purchase the shots each evening, you do. They also have a sale in the promendade the last full day by the British Pub, selling their martini and shot glasses.

Where is this increase? I am on the Oasis in April and the package price is still $385.

  7. Just to add my two cents...I found this review by looking for photos of the menu at Vintages and I have spent the last three days reading this on and off.

Thanks so much, we leave in 40ish days for the Oasis and this just made me even more eager to go. Your photos are lovely and the narrative is so funny at times, but so real life....

    Thanks again!

  8. Chrystal may be too busy to answer (;)), so I'll answer the question about Vintages and Tapas.

Yes, we did one night! It was excellent! Even my fussy husband found enough of a variety to make a meal. I ordered the wine flight ($18 at the time, IIRC), and it was beautifully served in an almost candelabra. I could have sworn I had a photo of it, but I can't find it. :( We sat outside on a lovely night. All in all, I thought it was worth it, and I'm sure we'd do it again.

    Thanks! Much appreciated.....

  9. Was excited to find your review with all the great pictures as we are sailing (after an almost 3 year break) on the Oasis in April. We really wanted to try the largest ship one time and now with seeing your pictures, I get the feeling we may want to do it again!

It's always nice to meet a fellow Central/Southern NJ cruiser! Lots of luck with your baby!

One question - did you ever visit the wine bar and try the Tapas? I cannot seem to find any reviews about it...

  10. My hubby and I were on our second Jewel of the Seas cruise and it was after dinner on the last night. We went back to our cabin to finish packing and change into travel clothes so we could put our bags out. My hubby changed first and went out on the balcony to enjoy a cigar and wait for me. I told him I was going into the bathroom to freshen up, and then we would go back out to dance.

I changed into my robe, laid out my clothes and finished all the packing and went to put the last bag in the hallway - well, you guessed it - I locked my self out of the room - in a robe (and little under it) with my hubby on the balcony.

So i ran to the elevators which have a phone, and called guest relations for help. I also called the room hoping that the hubby walked back in looking for me. - No luck. The guest relations staff told me that I would need to provide proof before they would open the door - but all I had was my robe.

Finally a room steward came by and opened the door for me. This all took over 20 minutes!

I walked out on the balcony and started yelling at my hubby - he was clueless! To this day he does not understand why I was mad - since I always take at least 20 minutes to get dressed. UGH!

  11. I started with a garmet bag and have added peices as they go on sale at Macy's. Macy's seems to have really good prices and I get point for shopping there as well - so double bonus.

Also, I got the brown/tan color pieces, just to stand out a bit from the crowd. Next purchase will be the largest suitcase. They are not lighweight, but they have lots of extras and are holding up really great considering the amount of travel we do - a lot of in and out of the trunk of the car, especially.
