  1. Yeah I don't know. Agree to disagree I guess. Saints season ticket holder. I used to go to New Orleans on Saturday. Now I go early Sunday morning most of the time. I went the Saturday before the panthers game last year....and I've just never seen anything like that. ...not unless the was a game in New Orleans. I don't even understand why Florida fans would go to Baton Rouge after the game. Seems they'd head back to florida after the game...the team does.

The Florida students never made it to Baton Rouge - they stayed in NOLA the full weekend, and that's where the buses were headed back to on Sunday morning.

  2. They may not bump prices but can have an occupancy impact. We were in town the same weekend as an LSU-Florida game prior to a cruise one year. Bourbon Street was a sea of blue and orange, and a ton of tour buses were loading up very bleary-eyed students Sunday morning. One of them said more Florida students watched the game in NOLA than went on to Baton Rouge.

  3. We will be driving a 15 passenger van and plan to use the garage. I contacted them, and all they could confirm was the 9ft 7in height maximum on their signage. I would assume there will be no height issue. Anyone park a full size passenger van at Fulton garage before?

We were just in the Fulton Garage in May and 9ft 7in seems very generous for the height allowance. I rechecked their website and it says 6ft 7in - some 15 passenger vans that may cause an issue, so I think the port will be the best.

  4. LSU - Arkansas game is in Baton Rouge that weekend. Baton Rouge and NOLA are just over an hour apart - I've seen in the past that a lot of students from the visiting school will head to the Quarter and watch the game from establishments on and around Bourbon Street. Eye Dr convention is probably the main reason, but this will have some carryover as well.

  5. BBB was a great idea. I didn't think of it. The company has a B+ rating, but LOTS of complaints. From the sounds of the complaints .... it is a travel membership. Much like a timeshare, but there is no timeshare involved. You pay this company for a travel service membership. You have to pay the company $20 - $50 deposit on your membership. Then some people were told to pay $5K and some $10K for their membership. ???? Bottom line, when 'members' call to schedule vacations, nothing is available. They're told to make plans at least 1 year in advance. Or alternate, sub par property is offered. Co. opened in 2002. First BBB complaint was 5 months later. The complaints I could access on BBB went back to 2014.

*** is a private (by invitation only) travel and vacation services company that offers the benefits of exclusive access to pricing outsiders can’t access anywhere else.

It goes on and on .... but a bunch of double speak gibberish.

Sounds a lot like those "members only" home renovation project outfits. We got invited to a couple of "preview nights" when one opened near us. Did some research and info promptly went into recycle bin. A common thread was that most people found out (after the fact) that they could have done the same project through a "regular" home improvement store for less $$, time, and headache. Sounds like you are ready to take the advice of Pink Floyd and "Run...run...run...run...run".

  6. It could still work out for you. With rooms in the forward part of the ship you could get assigned to the Crimson dinning room mid-ship instead of the Scarlet dinning room in the Aft. You will also be closer to the Encore Show room.

Just off the Dream 4 or 5 weeks ago. Crimson dining room is utilized for the Anytime/My Time Dining, and the Scarlet dining room is for the set time seating (Early/Late). So your assignment is based on which dining option you choose, not your cabin location.

  7. We were on the Dream a few weeks ago and did Maya Key - wife and daughter did beach break option, and I added the snorkeling. They enjoyed the beach, pool, and monkey encounter, and I had some great snorkeling. One of the guides asked if I wanted to see some cool stuff after talking about the squids several of us had been watching just off the dock, and he and I went out for about 45 minutes - sea cucumber, conch, sand dollar, spiny lobster, lots of good stuff. Lunch was good. Would definitely consider repeating if in Roatan again.

  8. Echo bobbyg11 about the casino - we were on the May 21 sailing of the Dream and once you were out of the casino, you didn't really smell smoke, not even at the elevators just aft of it.

As to "not to miss areas", new dining options are good - Guy's Burgers, Pig & Anchor BBQ (I thought the chicken was the best meat there - others weren't bad - yard bird just rose above), Tandoor Grill (I love Indian food - lots of good flavor), Alchemy Bar, Bonsai sushi (they have a sushi boat for 2 for $20-$25 that is a substantial amount of food - really good value and way better than the free sushi we got on other cruises). We also did the Chef's Table - on the Dream you now eat *IN THE GALLEY DURING DINNER SERVICE* - really get to see the behind the scenes stuff and appreciate the effort dining room staff puts in - I also got to make Chocolate Melting Cake with the pastry chef! Aft pool area is often quieter than main pool on Lido deck - not necessarily less crowded, but DJ and many activities focus around the main pool.

  9. Look into The Quisby - it's a hostel relatively near the port, but does offer private rooms and includes breakfast. We ended up staying elsewhere, but when we were exploring options, communications were prompt and professional. I think the private room is around $120/night.

We ended up staying at a bed & breakfast in Algiers Point (neighborhood across the Mississippi River - 15 minute drive to port tops) - Bed & Breakfast on the Point. Very neat old house, gracious host, and wonderful breakfast (they used to run a restaurant in NOLA).

  10. Just off Dream today and had a blast with daughter and the Seuss events. Everything we saw pointed you to booking once on board. There was an employee on the Lido deck on embarkation day - took less than 5 minutes to sign up.

  11. We like it like that. We're used to it.
I live right outside of Memphis, and as we say around here, "It's not the heat - it's the humidity". June in Memphis can leave you sweating, but more often than not we are so humid the sweat does not evaporate quickly (or at all). That also works into the heat index factor - during the summer here it can often feel 5-10 degrees hotter than it actually is. Not sure if you're from a similar environment or if you are more accustomed to a "dry heat", so just wanted to give you a heads-up.
  12. We saw that Dolphinaris has posted a 4' (48") minimum height for any of the programs with a swim component. How strict are they? DD is currently 47" - 47 1/2" (barefoot) and we sail in late May, so we "could/should" be past 48" by then. Dilemma is if we book interactive only and she grows, she'd be bummed, but if we book swim and she "stalls out", we've paid for something we can't use. Are they like some theme parks where if a sheet of paper fits in the gap they aren't tall enough, or do they "round up" for those within a 1/2" or so?

  13. Haven't posted in a while but have something to add to this thread - my wife and I were on a Carnival cruise out of New Orleans several years ago when the "balloon boy" incident happened (boy had supposedly stowed away in an experimental weather balloon his father had built before it took off - first responders chased the balloon across the countryside for a while before it landed with no sign of the boy - turns out he was hiding in the attic/crawlspace/etc.).
