  1. We were just in and uptown was there. Delicious as always. I think you will be good.. Supposedly they are building a small stage along with other cosmetic changes so I think it will take some time.. Zero has been done..

  2. I just got off the Breakaway (Love!).. Already thinking what is next.. I had to stop and tell you I found my answer to the swelling. It is just as bad for me as you.. Just feet, ankles and a bit up my legs.. It must be the salt and it only happens to me on cruises. Not land based on hot humid islands.. Never fingers, hands. The damn feet. I bought herbal water pills at CVS.. No caffeine. Did they help? Not sure, stopped taking them. I did buy a small water package for the room, maybe it helped?

The key! One of the heavy life jackets found under the bed we placed under the mattress on my side.. I had no choice but to sleep with them raised, actually comfortable. Almost all swelling went down every night.. It would slowly swell the next day, all down with sleep. I was so happy, The past three cruises have been quite a pain with how uncomfortable I became. It disappeared within a day of eating my normal home cooked food..

I also rubbed my feet and legs with Burts Bees peppermint foot lotion, just felt good.. Maybe helped? You can try dry brushing as well..

  4. The Haven is wonderful and if you get a upsell think about doing it.. If you want to make the cruise special (BTW I think you are just awesome, time is precious) think about moving to a balcony. Then your next choices. Would she like to spend hours watching the sea. There are two great choices. Aft balconies (non haven) and balconies with large balconies, deck 9. Bermuda is so beautiful, you will enjoy the time on your balcony. The water is green turquoise. I got up at 6 in the morning on the balcony to watch us enter into the waters of Bermuda.

This will be a splurge, having the balcony rooms, and although far from cheap, really much better for you. Surprise them.

If your Mom wants a relaxing surprise in Bermuda. Check into the day pass at a hotel there. Around 75 per person, lunch included at a beautiful resort. Private pool, private beach.

  5. Yes Jersey week is a thing it happens at Disney World as well.. The teachers have their conference on Thursday and Friday plus Election Day is 1/2 day. So the kids only miss 2 1/2 days in the week..

We have done both on the Breakaway.. We went to relax for Bahamas cruise.. Bermuda is stunning and we will be back in June. We are 44,45. Now don't forget during November the winds pick up and getting to GSC usually is every other week in November. So your guarantee would only be Nassau and Port Canaveral.

While on board they sell 1 or 2 day passes for the ferry bus system at guest services. Same price and no need to wait till you get to the island.. (Bermuda)

There is so much to do, you could go back 5 times and miss things. There is nothing like the charm of Bermuda.

Take Bonine with you, the seas are rougher both trips..

There is a festival on Weds nights in Hamilton, not sure when it ends in the fall called Harbor nights.

I can't recommend the beaches in St George enough for snorkeling. So much to see in calm waters..

  6. Hmmm so strange. We started out with free inside comped room from Harrahs. We played for enjoyment not points but we do like slots. We moved over to CAS by calling the number on the back of the cards.

One host on the Breakaway told us in a roundabout way. Almost like they had been scolded about poaching customers from Harrahs. One host would not deal with us at all. Said they would notify Harrahs. I never met a casino that did not want your business.

Depending on the cruise we want. We can get anything from a ocean view to balcony. Like Carribean on Getaway balcony. Bermuda prime season comped ocean view. Asked about Alaska, ocean view.

We won on our last cruise, so we came home up. We have had anything from 2700 points to 6000. I would bet average is 4500.. There has never been talk of loss more of a point talk. We take what the cruise would cost us.

  7. I am a clean freak and yet have had it 3 times in my life and it is just the absolute worse. 2/3 from traveling. The other from my high school. It is so vivid no matter how many years it has been just how awful it gets. I sure wish there was a vaccine.

All three times have been in Feb or March. I can't prevent my husband from bringing it home with him, he travels frequently. But I do avoid cruising then. Is there a specific time of the year for the virus?

For me the horrendous symptoms occur for about 12 hours and then it subsides. I feel so bad for the thought of managing in a cabin bathroom with others.

  8. I am not sure about on the Escape but if you want quiet and not the pool scene head to the front of the ship. On the Away ships it shares the sundeck space with Haven, a wall between. There is a bar outside of Vibe as well. I have always seen vacant chairs up there.

  9. Hi I wonder if you might be able to help me we sail on the breakaway on the 3rd April . Which will be the best place to get a taxi to Penn station when we have completed our cruise.

They will send you across the street to catch a cab BUT last time leaving NY we used a porter to get us through customs quickly. Best 20 bucks ever for learning this. As you exit the doors of customs he made a left to elevators. Available to anyone, took it upstairs where the cabs are dropping off the new cruisers. Hopped in cab and off we went.. No wait.

  10. Bonine does not cause my family to feel sluggish or tired unlike Dramamine. We take one 12 hours before the start of the cruise and continue throughout. Now we cruise out of NY at times so the ocean is for sure rougher.

My Mother uses it for our boat at home (she gets motion sickness very easily). We have even used it for amusement park rides. I don't think I personally get seasick, we have cruised in some pretty rough seas, but I sure don't want to. We spend too much time on the water to get that fear..

  11. Do you have IPhones or a IPad?? We get internet package on the ship, put our phones on airplane mode and use FaceTime. We leave my Mom home with my IPad and set a time up every day with the understanding that if we don't call it is just a bad connection. We use FaceTime audio and it works perfectly..

You can contact AT&T about a plan depending on what islands you are going to and call from there as well if possible. Out at sea I would not risk the charge..

  12. We loved the Haven on the Breakaway but I missed Vibe terribly. It was mid November so pretty quiet and not a large amount of kids. Unfortunately the kids in the Haven during our trip were worse then the above pictures and the parents were present, drinking and ignoring. One slipped in and a NCL employee ran and pulled her straight up by her arms. The parents decided after she started crying that the employee scared her. How dare him. She was tiny and thought tipping the wicker chairs in water was fun. I was trying to have lunch but I knew something bad was going to happen. There was an air of "we spent $$$$, our kids can do what they want" with little consideration that others spent the money as well.

Look I am not old, 44, and I felt like strangling this new parenting. How can you be mad at the kids? It's the damn parents. No consideration and did not want to be bothered. It's odd we normally have zero issues with anyone on vacation, we are in Lala land, but Haven had some pompous asses. LOL.

DID I mention we loved it? Ha! We loved our room, the employees, the meals.. It was fantastic. We would take advantage of the Haven again if it was the right cruise, right deal.

But we could not find a escape of quiet in the courtyard. I thought I found it, smoking section on the Haven sundeck.. Nope..lol a parent asked another guest not to smoke in front of her child.. In the smoking section!!

That was a fun thing to witness..

  13. We did the Blue Lagoon beach pass through NCL, I think around 50 per person and had a great day there. We got lucky that we did get GSC, so we had two amazing relaxing beach days. There are also some nice day passes available if you search the Bahamas forum..

I love the Bahamian people, they are lovely if you get to know them. I would not want to spend the day shopping and then let that represent the Bahamas. There are a ton of things to do if you look.

  14. I am going to suggest you take a ferry to St George. There is a hoho bus for 6 dollars per person that will take you to the different stops. Check out the Bermuda forums. Head to Tobacco Beach.. It is beautiful and has no waves and plenty of play area in the waters edge for the kids.. They have lunch there, bathrooms, drinks, etc.

You can get the ferry pass on the ship at guest services. So you can go directly to the ferry off the ship.

    Hope that helps!

  15. We did the upgrade to that on the Breakaway in November.. Loved the room, we received the offer a month out at 1000 per person, a little over 2 weeks another offer came at 500 pp. We took it at 400 pp, but remember that was a slower time in November..

The spa room was offered at 750 per person and they would not budge. Normally the spa rooms are cheaper but with upsell they were not. You keep the original offer only. For us it was the drink package at the time. We were on the 15th floor, nice and quiet

It was amazing and we loved every minute of it.

From reading I knew I could ask for a lounger once on board. The room steward was responsible for it. One lounger, one chair worked well.

Haven has a conceirge number before you leave for requests. There is a pillow menu and we asked for the fridge to be empty. What our coffee preferences were.

    Good luck!

  16. For those on this cruise I just feel terrible! I sure hope things are okay so if you wish you can continue on your vacation.. One of the things I love being on the ship are those moments enjoying how beautiful Mother Nature is, and how small we are in the scheme of things. She is also powerful and unpredictable to a degree. Look at Hurricane Sandy, she caused more destruction and damage in extremely low risk areas then could have been imagined.

I usually sail on NCL and there are life jackets under the bed. I was just recently on the Breakaway, they are there. I was under the rule of in cabin and emergency place jacket on and head to muster. Or if out and about go directly to muster where they will be provided.

We have a boat, 21 foot and the coast guard laws require certain items to be within reach at all times. Even if we are 2 minutes from the dock in the quiet bay they must be within reach. Happy to have the life jackets in the room as well..

  17. That is insane! I am one of those who enjoy a bit of waves, but not this! Mother Nature is a crazy creature but I can't fathom how this snuck up on them this violently.. Cruise ships actually travel so slow, there was no beating the storm in such a case. I would also imagine with this being their premier ship their captain would be the best.

I have to agree with you, I am more then happy to have life jackets under the bed as well as in muster stations. We have a boat and it is amazing what you need on hand and available at all times even if we are 2 minutes off the dock in the bay. As in directly beside you by coast guard law.

  18. You are welcome!

If you take that tram at GSC, just remember head LEFT as you exit the ferry, ask for a tram area, you won't miss having the cabana.. That lagoon area and the beach is so quiet. We had maybe 40 people in that area. We heard the regular area was like spring break and people left. People follow the masses and without research you would never realize this area existed.

If you check the deck plans. If you take the closest elevators to you (midship) take it to 16. Facing towards the front make a left, exit indoors you will see a set of stairs to deck 17. Head forward. Bar, restrooms, quiet sundeck.

You can purchase spa passes ahead of time if you wish, especially if you are going to stay on the ship for say Florida. Your room with be in the same area as the spa. Forward.

We love the ship.. If you enjoy, Bermuda is a must. We have done the Bahamas once but will be our third trip back to Bermuda on her.
