  1. The verandah restaurant on the Queen Elizabeth was terrifoc. We found it excellent on both the maiden voyage and again on a Panama Canal voyage.

Which is why I was excited that they had booted the vastly underwhelming Todd English off the QV and QM2.

Made our first visit to the QM2 version this July and it seemed that many elements of the boring Todd English menus were still in play. We were in Princess Grill and regular dining there was far better.

Hopefully these new changes in September finally create a restaurant worth paying a surcharge for as was the one on QE

  2. Sorry, correction, it was in the commodore club, but the dress code should apply there as well. They were served without any problems, and the commodore club was almost full.

    Pretty big correction.

Just got off QM2 on Princess Grill and I saw every male wearing at least a sport jacket on casual nights, most including ties and the large majority wearing formal wear on gala nights.

Very glad Cunard has not joined the mass market crowd in slumming down evening dress requirements.

It’s been a while since we’ve cruised, and we’re debating the 11-Day Southern Caribbean Seafarer.

I noticed that HAL changed the Promenade Deck... and we loved to walk it. Is the entire view blocked by lifeboats now?

All I can say is we liked it and are visiting KDam in March 19 for the Caribbean once again
  4. Excellent post

If you like good food, great staff and even a chance to spend some quiet time with someone, HAL is a great choice.

If you prefer drunks all around, loud blaring noise 24/7, idiotic things like bumper cars and the like, choose someplace else

Hal offers cruising as it should be....more about the trip and scenery...and less about amusement park activities. We live in such a fast pace...that it is wonderful to slow down.
  5. Just got off Anthem of the Seas today-Been with Cunard since 1971-occasionally Holland America; others before the collapse of the T/A market-But this was my first experience of a 7 day mass market - 5000 passenger- cruise. Cunard forgive me - I’m sorry, I am back. OMG the RCL experience was in many many ways surreal, really, really surreal. Enough said. And US Immigration did not help in Bayonne-they had 3 and then 5 desks open for 5000 pax!!!!!!
You went from one of the best in Cunard to the absolute worst in RCL.

    Welcome back to sanity

    As for the OP

You are in for a civilized treat

Formal nights that are the real thing

Jackets for men on all nights.

Those few that wish to not follow the rules get to eat in the cafeteria

  6. I highly doubt these people who remove tips tip at all. They give all kinds of reasons to remove and say they will tip more! Lol! I don't believe it. They are just cheap. You want to show appreciation? Leave the auto tips in place and tip in cash on top of that to those you especially appreciate. The auto tips you pay are nothing on top of the price of the cruise. Share your good fortune to be able to cruise with those who work so hard to make your vacation an enjoyable one.

  7. Hello

Our first time on RCI and we are wondering if it is possible (as we did on our on Holland America cruise) to remove the daily gratuities and pay cash at the end of our short sampler cruise? If it is possible, what currency is appreciated by the staff.

    Thankyou

    Nell

And make sure, cheapo, that you go into the kitchen and tip the cooks and the dishwashers who work 12 hours a day preparing your food

  8. I just received a Cunard email about the July 1-6 Independence Day voyage and was extremely happy to see the Verandah Restaurant which confirms that the Godawful Todd English has finally been given the boot

  9. That in itself is a joke. The only fire at sea attributed to a cigarette was on a Princess ship and that was not even proven but believed to be started by a thrown cigarette. The cigarette landed on clothing (that is not supposed to be left on a balcony) which caught fire catching the balcony furniture on fire (the furniture has been changed to flame retardant furniture now). Almost impossible to catch a ship on fire with a cigarette unless you're using a flame thrower to light it.

    Wait

In more than 150 years, there's only been ONE fire on a ship attributed to a cigarette?
