The verandah restaurant on the Queen Elizabeth was terrifoc. We found it excellent on both the maiden voyage and again on a Panama Canal voyage.
Which is why I was excited that they had booted the vastly underwhelming Todd English off the QV and QM2.
Made our first visit to the QM2 version this July and it seemed that many elements of the boring Todd English menus were still in play. We were in Princess Grill and regular dining there was far better.
Hopefully these new changes in September finally create a restaurant worth paying a surcharge for as was the one on QE

Pretty big correction.Sorry, correction, it was in the commodore club, but the dress code should apply there as well. They were served without any problems, and the commodore club was almost full.Sent from my iPad using Forums
Just got off QM2 on Princess Grill and I saw every male wearing at least a sport jacket on casual nights, most including ties and the large majority wearing formal wear on gala nights.
Very glad Cunard has not joined the mass market crowd in slumming down evening dress requirements.

All I can say is we liked it and are visiting KDam in March 19 for the Caribbean once againIt’s been a while since we’ve cruised, and we’re debating the 11-Day Southern Caribbean Seafarer.I noticed that HAL changed the Promenade Deck... and we loved to walk it. Is the entire view blocked by lifeboats now?

Excellent post
If you like good food, great staff and even a chance to spend some quiet time with someone, HAL is a great choice.
If you prefer drunks all around, loud blaring noise 24/7, idiotic things like bumper cars and the like, choose someplace else
Hal offers cruising as it should be....more about the trip and scenery...and less about amusement park activities. We live in such a fast pace...that it is wonderful to slow down. -
11 days, FLL round trip.
Great ship, nice escape from the wintry north
Anybody else going?

Done that..a few years agoSounds like fun, and you can pop into St. Pancras International for a quick Eurostar trip to Paris for Lunch if you choose to.Flew to Paris for 5 days, then took Eurostar to St Pancras via Chunnel...then 5 days later, the transfer to the QM2 for the voyage back to Red Hook

Doing what I normally do
Flying to London for several great days of dining, theater and just walking London while staying at the terrific Renaissance St Pancras. Then on embarkation day walking a short distance into St Pancras Station to the coach transfer directly to the QM2 in Southhampton for the only civilized way to return to the Big Apple

I'm still very happy they finally booted out the godawful Todd English from all Cunard ships and replaced with the Verandah

You went from one of the best in Cunard to the absolute worst in RCL.Just got off Anthem of the Seas today-Been with Cunard since 1971-occasionally Holland America; others before the collapse of the T/A market-But this was my first experience of a 7 day mass market - 5000 passenger- cruise. Cunard forgive me - I’m sorry, I am back. OMG the RCL experience was in many many ways surreal, really, really surreal. Enough said. And US Immigration did not help in Bayonne-they had 3 and then 5 desks open for 5000 pax!!!!!!:eek:Welcome back to sanity
As for the OP
You are in for a civilized treat
Formal nights that are the real thing
Jackets for men on all nights.
Those few that wish to not follow the rules get to eat in the cafeteria

A Sea "Four Years" would be a better find
-
No. Because Carnival owns them. HAL I would never try unless I am 65 or older. 29 more years for that.
Brilliant logic.
Glad I will never see you on HAL Princess Cunard or any other CCL lines

An RCL hating cruiser trolling the RCI tipping threads, hm......
Has nothing to do with RCL sucking. Has to do with stiffing cruise staff that work their asses off for pax
-
Gratuities are typically for those that provide guest facing services. You really have no right to attack people. IJS.
Completely untrue
-
I highly doubt these people who remove tips tip at all. They give all kinds of reasons to remove and say they will tip more! Lol! I don't believe it. They are just cheap. You want to show appreciation? Leave the auto tips in place and tip in cash on top of that to those you especially appreciate. The auto tips you pay are nothing on top of the price of the cruise. Share your good fortune to be able to cruise with those who work so hard to make your vacation an enjoyable one.

Hello
Our first time on RCI and we are wondering if it is possible (as we did on our on Holland America cruise) to remove the daily gratuities and pay cash at the end of our short sampler cruise? If it is possible, what currency is appreciated by the staff.
Thankyou
Nell
And make sure, cheapo, that you go into the kitchen and tip the cooks and the dishwashers who work 12 hours a day preparing your food
-
Thanks, I guess
Reminded me of the three horrible days on that tub I spent in January. The best part was confirming my decision to never cruise on RCL again.
What a dump
-
Any cruise line but RCL is a wise choice
-
Missing Nassau and tendering to Coco Cay is actually a plus
You should have to pay RCL more for missing those dumps.
Or return the free ear plugs they offer to block out the hideous screamingly loud Centrum disco noise blaring into your cabins until midnight
-
Are all the bumper cars OK?
-
I just received a Cunard email about the July 1-6 Independence Day voyage and was extremely happy to see the Verandah Restaurant which confirms that the Godawful Todd English has finally been given the boot

That in itself is a joke. The only fire at sea attributed to a cigarette was on a Princess ship and that was not even proven but believed to be started by a thrown cigarette. The cigarette landed on clothing (that is not supposed to be left on a balcony) which caught fire catching the balcony furniture on fire (the furniture has been changed to flame retardant furniture now). Almost impossible to catch a ship on fire with a cigarette unless you're using a flame thrower to light it.
Wait
In more than 150 years, there's only been ONE fire on a ship attributed to a cigarette?
-
Find a better cruise line.
There are dozens of them that enforce rules, especially rules that involve potential fire on a ship
