    Really, run a bath? Wow.

I know that it's not exactly the same but we've had multiple butlers across different ships offer to fill our hot-tub while we were still using the pool on the sundeck. That way, once we leave the sundeck, the kids can warm up in the hot-tub immediately after the "cold-air" walk to the suite. One parent can shower while the other hangs out on the balcony with the kids.

I know in the Haven, the butler will bring breakfast, lunch and dinner and do an in room set up,...

Breakfast delivery and set-up are no problem in the Yacht Club. You can even hand-write requests if the doorknob sheet doesn't have what you want. Because there are 4 of us, it usually takes 2 people to bring in all of the food and set it up on the balcony.

Lunch and dinner delivery aren't really done on MSC as easily as they are done in the Haven. Even if the suite is large enough, MSC doesn't like to deliver lunch or dinner from the Yacht Club restaurant or from any specialty restaurant. Room service (especially pizza delivery 🍕) is no problem, of course.

The list of what the butler can do is longer than what most guests ask for. I give the edge for butler service to MSC over NCL. Both groups of butlers are highly trained but often the communication (or lack thereof) between the guests and the butler leads to different results of satisfaction. Some butlers suggest more services than others while some guests request more services than others.

Anyway, my husband and I typically upgrade to FAS+ and buy the kids soda packages, but since our kids are under 21, can we each buy FAS+ for ourselves since we are each the only adult in our two cabins?

Since the kids are both guest #2 in the staterooms, the kids should already have the soda package and the SDP with the standard Free At Sea promo.

I think that the question is asking if the adult can upgrade to Plus but not the child in each stateroom?

The added SDP meals, Wi-Fi, and excursion credit aren't worth the cost of the upgrade for the child if NCL forces them all to upgrade.

Looking at sailing on the Seashore with 11 month old. When you are “booking” it only asks how many adults and how many 1-17….. so are we just kind of showing up with a 11 month old and its ok? Also, what kind of documentation is required?  Yall know its hard to find info on MSC website! 😂.  Thank you for any info or advice!

Do you see the above on the MSC site?

  5. I do wonder if driving to port vs. flying to port is a factor for some people. I have the luxury of packing 2 weeks worth of clothes for a 1 week cruise since I drive to port.

Those who fly have to be cognizant as to the weight limit of their luggage so maybe people leave the "extra" dress clothes at home.

Personally, I dress how I feel on a particular day/evening. If I want to wear a tie, I will. If I want to wear shorts and a t-shirt, I will.

Good time, good food, good drinks, etc. is more important to me than what I am wearing and is certainly more important to me than what other people are wearing.

Empathy is exactly what I intended to say. And empathy is what I wish others on these boards would have for those in bad situations, regardless of who is at fault.

I can't be empathetic towards a situation that I haven't experienced. I can't be empathetic towards a woman who experienced a painful pregnancy, either. I can be sympathetic, not empathetic.

"Sympathy is a feeling of sincere concern for someone who is experiencing something difficult or painful. Empathy involves actively sharing in the person’s emotional experience." - Merriam-Webster

...but bottom line, there are a lot of posters lacking empathy about various happenings on these here boards.

You might mean "lacking sympathy...", not "lacking empathy...".

If an adult is responsible, willing, and able enough to take an excursion (on their own) in a foreign country, that same adult is responsible, willing, and able to deal with the consequences of their actions.

If the couple in this situation was 75, would that make a difference? How about 55? How about 25? I can't speak for others but my posts probably wouldn't change at all. If anything, the "experienced cruisers" should/would get less sympathy because they know better.

What would happen if NCL instituted a policy that anyone over a certain age cannot leave the ship unless on a ship's excursion? People would be up in arms. Posts stating that "age discrimination" is bad and that older people can "still do things..." would flood the forum.

Do I feel badly for that couple in the article?  Sure, anyone experiencing travel disruptions of whatever sort deserve kind thoughts.  That doesn’t change the facts of the situation, which is that their issue was created by their own actions or lack thereof.

That's the point that many on the forum have made. These situations happen because of the decisions and actions taken before things go bad.

but, here, i would side with the couple. they notified the ship they were running late and indeed they arrived very shortly after scheduled departure. if i read it correctly, just ten minutes.

"Norwegian Cruise Line said it disputed the time of the couple’s arrival at the pier. 'The two guests who went ashore independently arrived at the pier approximately an hour late and missed the all-aboard time of 5:30 p.m. local time, for a sail away at approximately 6:00 p.m.,' a spokesperson said via email."

It's a case of "he said/she said" as to the actual amount of time that they were late.

Does that mean 6:30p or was it 6:10p?

To me, 10 minutes late means 5:40p so I guess that's why I don't miss my ship, my plane, my train,.....etc.

What will the NCL experience be like?

Some things are consistent with NCL but some things vary greatly depending on ship choice. Imagine someone thinking of trying RCCL and was deciding between ICON OTS and Vision OTS. It would be a big difference.

Another thing to consider is stateroom choice and category. Are you thinking of a Haven suite or an interior stateroom? Perhaps, somewhere in-between?

If you could narrow it down to some of the RCCL ships that you like, it would help to compare/contrast with NCL.

I remember a time when nobody even knew what Vibe was. Then, as the word got out, more and more people would show up early to the port to participate in the mad dash for passes.

    It was fun to watch.

VIBE runners are like sprinters while pier runners are like power walkers when it comes to speed.

    2 hours ago, SeaShark said:

People know they can bid for stateroom upgrades, why not bid for Vibe passes? Instead of selling ### passes online, NCL could just allow you to bid on a pass. Then, a couple of days before the cruise, they could just award the passes to the top ### bidders.

    That's an interesting idea.

I wonder how high people would be willing to go....

If ever there was a cruise where I'd have paid double for a Vibe pass it was this one.

    ...well, that's one answer. 😁

You are remembering correctly. Haven was exempted from the gratuity charge on the FAS package plus at that time, FAS had 4 specialty dinners for a 7-night sailing.

FAS dining promo went from unlimited uses to 4 uses to 3 uses to 2 uses for a 7 night cruise.

Haven/Suite guests were charged the (then 18%) service charge on the promos starting in June 2017.

Number of meals depends on what your stateroom category is and length of cruise. For you, it will be either 2 or 3 meals for each of the first two guests in the stateroom.

IN WHICH VENUES WILL MY SPECIALTY DINING PACKAGE BE HONORED?

Specialty Dining Packages are honored in the following restaurants: Cagney’s Steakhouse, Food Republic, Italian, Le Bistro, Los Lobos, Moderno Churrascaria, Pincho Tapas Bar, Q Texas Smokehouse, Raw Bar, Seafood, Sushi and Teppanyaki.

Guests may also dine in select entertainment-based restaurants using their SDP meal.

An SDP meal in a la carte restaurants includes 1 appetizer, 1 soup or salad, 1 main course and 1 dessert (does not apply to cover charge restaurants or Food Republic, Pincho Tapas Bar and Sushi, where a meal includes any 4 menu items). SDP does not include beverages and additional and/or premium menu items will incur charges.

The pergolas are not able to be reserved at the concierge desk? We did that on Seaside and did not have to awaken early to get our choice of spots.

    It differs by ship.

Seashore/Seascape are done differently than Seaside and, I would guess, Seaview (I've never sailed Seaview).

MSC is charging $398 deposit to move a booking back two weeks, leaving on a cruise two weeks earlier. MSC agent says one free move can only be forward, not backward.  Please be  aware of this perk is only for going forward not backward. One will forfeit the original $398 and put a new deposit of $398 onto the new cruise date two weeks earlier. Both cruises are in month of September 2024 not yet balance due.

This has happened to a couple of people on the forum but thanks for the reminder.👍

Which restaurant/s are the ones (near) impossible to get a table at once the ship sales and you don't have a prior reservation?

Teppanyaki is limited. If your group is small (2), they might be able to squeeze you in somewhere. Otherwise, make a reservation if you really want it.

Do I need to look into what restaurants are available on my ship (Escape) and make some reservations in advance or is it relatively easy to get a table at certain times (like right when a restaurant opens)?

    Need to? No.

Highly recommended to make reservations? Yes.

Do some restaurants get so busy with reservations that if you don't book ahead or right after boarding then you'll never get in?

    Yes.
