Having just recently returned from couple weeks or so in Japan, my suggestion for a 1-2 night stay would be something a little different. If you are open to a different type of experience, a very Japanese one, give the Tokyo Ginza Bay Hotel a try. It's a capsule hotel. Look it up in TripAdvisor/Booking.com and you'll see what it's like and whether it would suit your taste and needs.
Why this suggestion? My thoughts on this are:
1 - Very clean and organized. Having stayed here when only needing 1-2 nights, I can confirm this.
2 - Inexpensive - You are staying in a very expensive district. This suggestion would help the wallet, tremondously.
3 - Location - super great location (without hitting the wallet, of course). 10 minute walk south east is the Tsukiji Fish market.
Even closer north east, you hit the famous Chuo Dori street (don't forget to visit the basements of these shopping complexes!)
Less than 5 minutes walk is a discount store with EVERYTHING: Don Quijote Ginza.
Just beyond Don Quijote is a Shimbashi subway entrance. The Ginza line runs through here and has limited express runs direct to Haneda airport (if you need it).
10 minutes south is Hamarikyu Gardens.
Anyways, I can go on but it's basically next door to a Marriott, without paying the Marriott price or the Ginza district prices.
And, in my opinion, having some fun trying something really different.

Ken, seeing your map helped me a lot.
I just played around creating a map with just a few places and I think I got it.
I will work on it this week and will come back with questions.
Thank you.
Keith
Glad you're making progress!
Would love to see your creation when you're done!
Let me know if you have further questions.

I have to say I am still struggling with all of this.
I can't seem to do it with Google and the other sites mentioned.
Should anyone have any additional suggestions I would appreciate if you share them.
Thanks,
Keith
Hey Keith,
Let's see if I can figure out what's happening (I still think you should do this with Google Maps).
Can you tell me how far you've gotten to? What have you been able to do, and what are you having problems with specifically? Are you using a computer (Windows, Mac?) or your phone or something else?
I did this really quick map and just wanted to find out....is this the basic idea of what you were hoping to achieve? Click
below and have a quick look and click on each city. Then give me some comments and I'll get a better idea.
Note: It's not in a blog post - I'm just sharing the map. But it's a simple matter to stick that into a blog post. One step at a time.

Using Google Maps is great all over Europe. Just be sure to get a European unlimited data plan before you go. You will be using lots of data doing DIY walks with GM active all the time.
Sent from my iPad using Forums
Google Maps has an offline feature which allows you to download a map of an area (Say Athens). Do it from your smartphone and it is now available for 30 days. No data/wifi required. Only thing to ensure, of course, is to make sure the 30 days covers your trip data range. However, you can always re-download again for another 30 days.

Ken, thank you very much.
When you say to be sure I am logged into Google Services can you please give me the URL for that.
Thank you.
Keith
Reading back my answer, I should have been more clear on this.
.
If you goto any Google site (www.google.com or maps.google.com, etc.), they always have a blue box on the top right of the page with the words "Sign In". Click it and sign in with your Google account.
However, if you are already signed in, it will instead show your profile photo or lacking that, the first letter of your first name I believe.
In your case, you can just visit https://maps.google.com
If you are unsure of your username and password, it would be the same as what you use to login to your Gmail.
If you don't have Gmail and have never login to any Google service or application in the past and don't have an account, then you'll have to create a Google account. To create an account, click the same blue box in the top right labelled with the words "Sign In". On the Sign In page, click More Options, then select Create Account. Then just follow the instructions.
This one account will give you access to everything Google including email (Gmail), cloud storage (Drive), Google+, etc, etc.
As an aside, all the maps you create are automatically saved on your account's Google Drive cloud storage area, which I believe you get 15GB of free storage space.
There's a lot you can do in Google Maps and it definitely helps with itinerary/trip planning, especially when planning with a group of people. Guess I should do a tutorial blog post on this.....one day.

I would like to create a map for a Blog I am working on that would show several port stops in a few continents. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Keith
Hi Keith - have you tried Google maps?
Ensure you are logged into Google services and in the main menu, use Your Places. Then in the Maps tab, click create a new map on the bottom, give it a proper name, plot all your ports (note - Google auto-saves), click the 3 vertical dots (it's a menu) next to your map name, select "Embed on my site" and up pops some html code for an iframe. Copy and paste into your blog site.
Your map needs to be public in order for this to work. So, click on the share icon and just make it public.
To edit the map at a future date, you will go into Your Places, then the Maps tab, click your map name, then Open in My Maps.
You should be able to do similar with other mapping services if you don't like Google Maps.

hey! nice blog and the baltics is a beautiful and underrated area. can i ask what you used to create your blog? and did you buy your own domain name? i also want to start up a travel blog but not with blogger or wordpress. i was thinking of using this provider becuase they have a service which is express to create a blog: http://www.1and1.com/create-a-blog i'm really not technical so i want it to be as easy as possible, but also professional becuase i want to be able to use it for my cv or to present to people, and i also want my own domain. so i'd love to know what you did and what did and didn't work for you. any help appreciated, thanks!
Thanks for checking out my blog.
I'll send you a PM shortly as this discussion can get lengthy

Just starting my research for a visit to Stockholm. I am so glad I found your blog.
Hi Melissa,
Glad you're finding it useful :)
I've been suddenly overwhelmed with work so the blog has been lacking attention lately. Hope to get back to it soon!

Great start- loved the piece about the subway art- who would have thought! Do you intend to limit the blog to Europe or will you eventually want to include other non european destinations? This is a big undertaking, so thanks for taking the plunge.
Regards Peter, Calgary
Hi Peter,
Thanks for visiting!
In the short term, I've got lots of ideas in mind for many European destinations that I've visited. Either different topics or similar topics to what others have written but with some twist to it as I usually like to observe small details which are helpful.
However, I do intend to include other non-Euro destinations. For example I'm visiting Asia in 2016 so there's lots to write about there. Or even our neighbour to the east - Montreal - has some interesting topics that I'm itching to write about as well.
Please make some return visits and I'll try my best to have some useful topics. Maybe I'll mix it up the destinations a bit - not sure yet. There's this thing called "work" that always gets in the way.....
