  1. I know. We're still tossing the idea around. If I buy it now, and they are only giving the option for a credit card, then I can pay it off before we even go and have a finite amount to spend while on the cruise. I would like to have it all paid before we go and not have to carry a large sum of money to the ship. So just wondering.

  2. I was thinking about ordering a small package of the water for our upcoming cruise to have for when we go on excursions. This is the first I heard about the added gratuity to buy a package of water.

I'll bring a couple of empty bottles as others have suggested and fill them on the ship.

    Ridiculous fees!

  3. The Free at Sea port excursion credit is only good for up to 3 excursions on a 7 day cruise, 4 excursions on a 10 day and up. I found that in the fine print somewhere on the NCL site and was also confirmed by my TA through NCL. I don't know if the DV credit for port excursions works the same way. Not offered on my upcoming cruise.

  4. I was told by my TA and also read on the NCL webpage that to use the excursion credits you must call 1-866-625-1167 to book ahead, or you can book them when you get on the ship. If you book thru the NCL website you will not get the credit. This is all according to the NCL website and confirmed thru my TA. Those were the only 2 options for using the promotional excursion credits.

  5. I like the part where you say 'of course we spent it all' so didn't have to worry about how you wanted it back. LOL exactly what I would/will be doing!

And we also have the excursion credit but haven't called to book them yet as we still have 8 months to go. Will probably try to book them in January. Am waiting to see if any new ones get listed.

  6. Thank you for the responses. Sounds like we'll be ok with the OBC. Our excursions will take most of the 900 so we may end up adding some cash part way through the cruise.

Do you know if the excursions will be deducted the first day of the cruise or as we do each port?

I will be keeping a close eye on our account to make sure we always have credit available for what we need, ha ha, but good to know the timing of deductions.

  7. I've done a cash account before but this is a 10 day cruise, myself and hubby. NCL wants $900 for a cash account. Will be spending time in Rome before cruise and don't want to have large amount of cash on hand. I'm thinking I'll purchase onboard credit in that amount and if we don't use all of it they can give us a check to take home. Excursions will take most of it. And we prepaid the service charge. Can I just show that we have that amount in onboard credit when we embark?

  8. Yes. But you can only use refundable (purchased by you or a friend) for DSC. Non-refundable (gifted by NCL) can not be used for DSC. If DSC is pre paid, you're good either way.

Thank you for the reply. That is what I thought would be the case.

  9. I am also going to put cash on my account when we cruise. Have the credit card and will carry it but prefer cash for the onboard acct. We are planning on doing a few excursions through the ship and those will be charged to the on board account so we will be putting enough cash on the account to cover those and still allow for extra. It is just easier for DH and I to track our spending that way.

I do have a question of my own though. If I just purchase onboard credit ahead of time would that do instead of having the cash when I embark?

  10. I know this is silly but when we went on our first cruise four years ago I was really looking forward to breakfast with hashbrowns every day. It was kind of a let down when I discovered they serve those round, deep fried, hockey puck size patties.:( We're going again in May and I am wondering if they started serving fresh made hashbrowns as opposed to the deep fried? Not expecting any but would be a nice treat.:)
