  1. I don't understand why people even use travel agents? What's the purpose? Is it just for people with more disposable income and no desire to book things themselves?

I booked a group cruise myself for the Harmony in 2017. Took me about 10 minutes to get everyone done. Once the time comes I'll link all our accounts and get tickets for the same shows and have the same meal times.

I would hate to depend on someone else to do it for me. I would find it stressful to not have complete control over my booking

My experience aside, it doesn't seem to cost more to use an agent but it does seem to take work off your plate. I'm normally a control freak too but in this case I figure I'm not a veteran cruiser by any means and couldn't field questions well. I also don't want to deal with taking everyone's money and putting everything together.

  2. As others have already stated you never should have to pay money up front to TA to get a quote and definitely need to either book with directly with RCCL or find another agent. Personally I would not let the TA keep the $100.00.If it were me, I'd be contacting the MI State Attorney's office to file a complaint. You'll get you money back than .

I know. It didn't seem like that much money in exchange for a clean break. I feel bad replying to "oh my dad had all these surgeries" with "give me my money back now". I just want to be done with her. The new agent already has hit the ground money and we're taking deposits. Insane what a difference it makes. I can't believe the other lady literally did nothing. I'm probably too nice but willing to let it go and focus on an exciting cruise. Thanks everyone!

  3. I already have a travel agent lined up. Actually she's a friend of mine who does it on the side. I just didn't think of her initially because she doesn't specialize in cruises and not knowing anything about anything I thought an agency that said cruise specialist was important. But now I'm realizing this lady is terrible. After a month, $100, and five emails full of questions she tells me her dad is in the hospital and she won't be able to get to it til this weekend. Also tells me I know your family is getting anxious but tell them not to worry it's a year away. ***?! So my friend said no money up front and she'd have something put together tomorrow. I'd rather her get the commission and me not to have to deal with collections. She was telling me the gap points can be divided among the group and some other things. I'm just happy to have someone I trust and want to still make sure I ask all the right questions since she's not a so calles cruise specialist lol.

  4. I am planning a family reunion cruise. I paid a travel agent $100 with the understanding that if we booked it would be applied to the cruise and if we didn't book then she would get to keep it. It has been 6 weeks since I initially contacted her and one month since I paid her and we still don't have so much as a quote. It's always I put a call into the group department or things like that and she had jury duty and her father was sick... all kinds of things. Meanwhile I different agent said she could get me a quote within 24 hours. So I am thinking of just letting agents and let her keep the hundred dollars. Any tips on what I should be looking for or asking for from the new agent? I want to know what kind of perks there are things like that. I am booking a 5 night cruise on Independence of the Seas in November 2016. Any information would be helpful.

  5. Park Cafe was the one in the solarium right? Does Cafe Promenade basically replace that? They seem similar except I'm guessing Cafe Promenade isn't in the solarium? I will probably only miss the covered pool if it rains lol I like the sun :D

Are any shutdowns frequent on Independence? pools, ice cream, soda, etc? I'll probably get the drink package again too...

  6. Ok so I went on my first cruise ever this year on Enchantment of the Seas. My husband and I went with a group of friends, 7 of us total, and we stayed in an Oceanview cabin.

I wasn't all that impressed, but wasn't disappointed, if that makes sense, by the cruise overall. Well, only disappointment was that Ben and Jerry's was still broken, but other than that I would rate it as satisfactory. Loved CocoCay, service was great, food was good. We ate basically every meal in the MDR and there were plenty of options. I'm not a big sandwich or breakfast person. I would have liked more free restaurant options. Nothing was ever appealing in windjammer but no one in our group wanted to pay for dining so didn't get to try Chops, but there were enough choices in MDR for me to be satisfied. Shower was small but room met our needs. Liked the movies on the water but was annoyed that at any given moment there were at least 2 non working hot tubs, either closed, or cool water in them. I would probably rate the cruise a 6/10 having never cruised before.

That being said, I am planning a family reunion cruise next year in November. I personally wanted to do an Oasis class ship but it seems to be out of the price range and out of the cruise length for some of my family, so I'm looking at the 5 day Independence of the Seas, which hits Labadee and Jamaica. I'm assuming Independence will be more of the wow factor than Enchantment, and hopefully less will be broken down, etc. There appears to be much much more to do as well as more dining options. I also plan to splurge on at least a junior suite, but maybe larger depending on the perks. I'm pretty easy to please just prefer for everything to be in working order and food to be edible lol. how is the johnny rockets on this ship? I've only read specific reviews for other ships.

So all that being said, does Independence seem like the best option with a little more wow factor and plenty for all ages to do? I feel like I've read all I can read on cruises lol.

Also, is there a big difference between the Grand, Owner, and Royal Suites? Doesn't seem to be that big a difference for the price difference but I may be missing something.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. I wanted to get clear updated answers here because I've seen old stuff and can't tell which is accurate.

    What are the restaurants total?

I read about a restaurant called The Jade serving Asian food on Enchantment, but it was only on a few sites. Is it still there? Is there a surcharge?

Is there a Johnny Rockets on Enchantment, and is the surcharge still around $4?

Is there a Portofino? Also find some sites talk about it and some don't when listing restaurants.

What flavors do they have at Ben and Jerrys and do they vary? Shakes also?

We are trying to gauge what we will be charged for. Chops, ben and jerrys, some specialty cupcake place... is that the only food with an upcharge?

    Thanks so much!

  8. I read elsewhere the package was good on Cococay. Is that true, and if so is it also good any other ports? AKA Nassau? Lol it didn't look like it from all the complaints I read about drink prices in Nassau.

Drink package seems worth it because then you don't have to keep track of drinks and can send things back. Not worth it if you don't start drinking until 8pm but otherwise... I could see 2-3 drinks during the day at the pool, 2 drinks at dinner, a drink or 2 at the blackjack table easy, especially koolaid martinis lol that go down in a sip.

My husband and I are both getting the drink package because doesn't seem worth the hassle to sneak, but reading these posts, if one took a drink to the other in the room how would they catch you?
