  1. We were in Bergen last week on Azura. Walked from the ship into town. We were at the funicular at 8.45. Well worth getting there early as there was a long queue when we got back. Also interesting ride on the hoho bus and was glad of the blankets provided as it was freezing!

  2. We're off on a weeks cruise to the fjords on Azura. We want to book Sindhu one night for dinner but don't want to eat there on formal nights. Does anybody know when the 2 formal nights tend to be on a weeks cruise please? :)

  3. If you go for a traditional cruise then you may want to think about a Baltic cruise. We've been twice and loved it. Places to go are Stockholm, Copenhagen, Tallin, St Petersburg, Helsinki, Zeebrugge, Oslo etc spending on the cruise. We're going to the Norwegian fjords on a couple of weeks and really looking forward to that.

    Enjoy whatever you decide

  4. Copenhagen is a lovely place. Last time we were there on a cruise we did a tour to nearby Helsingor Palace so things to see outside the city as well as all the city sights. Amsterdam is also lovely but probably needs a longer single visit. Have fun. We have done 2 Baltic cruises from Southampton and loved them.

  5. The Merseyside Maritime Museum is in the Albert Dock. The museum of Liverpool is by the Pier Head. Albert Dock is a short walk from the cruise terminal which is next to the IOM ferry terminal. Magical Mystery tour buses leave from the far side of the Albert Dock from the maritime museum.

  6. Re Venice. I would definitely DIY in Venice. Not sure where the ship will berth but there will be a vaparetto for a couple of euros to St Marks Square. It's always busy so imagine it would be hard to keep a walking tour group together. Also so much to see being on your own means you can stop and stare whenever you like. And there's a lot to stare at! Best way of seeing buildings is to get the Number 1 bus which goes from the station down the Grand Canal to San Marco or vice versa. Also cheap gondola ride is to get one which crosses the Grand canal in various places - used by locals.

Sure whatever you do you will love it. Writing about it makes me want to visit again. Have fun

  7. An alternative to Rome would be a visit to Ostia Antica. It's a Roman port but a bit inland now. Lots to see there. Well worth a visit if you like old ruins! Not sure how you would get there from Civitavecchia as we got the train from Rome but worth investigating.

  8. We're going to the Fjords in 4 weeks on Azura. As we leave on Friday our first port is Stavanger on the Sunday. We haven't booked a trip and will do our own thing. Just wondering if anyone knows whether things will be open on a Sunday or whether it may be best to do a trip? Many thanks

  9. I'm on a gluten free diet and have been on Aurora and Azura and back on Azura in a few weeks. Excellent service both times. Just let them know in advance. you just have to order your dinner the night before but from my recollection you can have anything on the menu. I remember having GF crumble for dessert and it was delicious. Also had GF afternoon tea and for breakfast just ask in the buffet for GF toast and it arrives after a couple of minutes.

Glad to hear they do GF pizza - might have to give that a try.

And of course there are no glutens in Prosecco which is always a bonus!!!

  10. We're booked to go to the fjords on Azura in May. Can't wait. We sailed on her to the Baltic in 2011 and had a great time - cabin and food both good and the destinations were brilliant, especially St Petersburg. We did the 2 day tour of the Fall of the Romanov Dynasty which was excellent and also loved Stockholm. Thought about booking on Aurora but the balcony cabins that were left didn't look as good so chose Azura as itinerary more or less the same :)

  11. We are on Azura on 22nd May and have been wondering about a wine package. Having read this thread which has been really useful we probably won't bother as would want to choose different every night but prefer Italian wines tbh. I think the house wine is Italian so that will probably suit us fine.
