  1. We were just on the Star for the Alaskan cruise Whittier to Vancouver. We had A746. People here talked about hearing noise from the deck above. We heard zero noise. Matter of fact there was never anyone ever sitting in there at night. Our cruise was very quiet. Hardly anyone on deck after 8pm. The only thing I can say is in the aft end of the ship everything vibrates. Like sleeping on one of those beds that you put a quarter in......

The water was smooth as glass.....so it must have been the engine.

BTW A746 is one of the angled balconies that is actually part of the hull under Skywalkers.

  2. We just got back from an Alaskan cruise aboard the Star. We had requested robes. Well my wife requested them.....We never got them. I never bothered to ask....Just two more things to not clutter the cabin....:D

  3. Leaving on the Star May 23rd for the 7 day Alaska cruise. Aloha deck, aft. My question is, what time should I be at the ship to board? I couldn't find a time anywhere in my Princess paperwork. I know we depart around 8:30pm. But how do they figure what time everyone is supposed to be there.

Be patient with me now. Did I mention I have never done this before?:D

  4. Hi there! I guess we will be sharing the same ship. :-)

Your comment about shopping for soda and water caught my attention. Why do you need to bring water aboard? Pardon my ignorance--I'm a newbie cruiser.

After reading all the comments about how much a bottle of water costs at the gangway, I''m just going to grab a 12 pack or 2 while we are in port.

  5. We are also on the Star leaving on the 23rd. We are staying at the Hilton Garden and being picked up by A.C.T The Big Bus. We chose the ride that stops at a National park for an hour on the way down, seeing as we have plenty of time......We are also arriving on Friday so have time to shop for soda, and water before boarding.....:D

  6. We are new to all of this cruise thing. My wife and I are taking the Alaskan Cruise the week of May 23rd on the Star. Just wondering what nights the formal nights are on. I can't find any info on that on the Princess website. We have a few excursions planned that go until 4pm and we are doing the Main Dining room sit down at 5:30 each night. So not a lot of time to get back and ready....Just wondering if anyone knows? Thanks.....:D

  7. I have been following along with this topic, as it was a question of mine as well. I am a newbie to cruising and we have the sit down dinner itinerary with two formal nights on our Alaskan Cruise in May. I actually googled pictures of formal nights on a cruise. It was a pretty mixed bag.

I plan to bring a Dark suit and Sport coat/slacks for the second night. We are doing an all day shore excursion and won't be back until about a half hour before dinner. So I figured a sport coat would be quick. We eat at 5:30 on our trip. So while I understand all the things that seem to go with Formal night, I plan to remember one thing. I am on vacation....Plain and simple...I'm not on the cruise to stress about what I am going to wear. I am there to relax and have fun. I hope everyone else is as well.

  8. I guess after re-reading the above picture post that was NOT the Star.

I have seen a few different deck plans for the star that had A746 at the aft end as a porthole room and I had booked a balcony room. Apparently this is a somewhat newly added room and numbers have changed around a bit?

I will take pics and post as well. Another 41 days......

  9. First posting here so saying hello. We are booked in A746 on the port side for the upcoming Alaskan Cruise Departing Whittier on May 23rd. I was looking for more of a picture of the angle of this deck. Hadn't found any good ones until I joined this site. I had been reading the alcohol postings. LOL. and trying to see pictures of what people wore on an Alaskan cruise. Funny to see someone in shorts and a T-shirt standing next to someone wearing a Parka.:D I am hoping to find lots more info while here. This will be my first cruise. Yes a cruise virgin.....Anyway, thanks for the better view of this balcony. It really helped to wrap my brain around an angled deck on a ship. Looking at the deck plan and reading some reviews I thought Aloha deck was the upper room deck. But this picture shows another level of decks. Still confused a bit on that.
