  1. I'm getting the impression that you are trying to be as frugal as possible.

For port transportation contact these folks:

    Independent driver - 888-816-0973

    inde.drvr@gmail.com

    No web site, no frills.

Your price for the Doubletree is excellent. For comparison look at LastMinuteTravel.com at the Ramada, which is next to the Doubletree. This is $120 with "breakfast buffet" whatever that is. The Ramada offers Teddy's Sports bar which might be more of the pub atmosphere you are looking for.

Another question - why are you planning to arrive on Amtrak at 1 pm? There is absolutely nothing to do at most EWR hotels - you are pretty much trapped there until the next day.

I guess frugal is a good word!

I only have 2 train options...arrive at 1 or 7. I prefer to be there early and relax. As long as there is a bar and we can have a couple drinks then we will be good! :D

    Thanks for your help!

  2. That's not much money for an EWR hotel tax included. You can get a hotel, but you will pay $55-65 to get to the port. Does that work for you?

I already have a reservation at doubletree Hilton for $125 tax included.

Was just wondering if there were any hotels out there that also offered port transportation. and I have no idea what a taxi would be from there....

  3. What is your hotel budget? Beds - King, Queen, double? Transportation budget? Is walking to nearby restaurant/bar OK? Is public transit an option?

Did you buy your Amtrak tickets already?

    hotel budget about $125-$150.

    beds- 2 doubles or king.

    short walking distance is ok.

I would prefer not to use public transit.

No- Amtrak tix not purchased yet.

    Thanks

  4. We will be arriving via: Amtrak to Newark airport on Friday

    9/16/16 around 1:00 PM.

    2 adults- minimal luggage.

Can you please recommend a hotel that has shuttle from the airport and possibly to the Cape Liberty port? or would a taxi be best?

We would like someplace clean with a bar or pub where we could grab a bite to eat- nothing fancy required. :D

We do not need any return transportation.

    Thanks!!

  5. Seems like it's been a while since anyone has posted a vacation video on these boards. I thought it would be fun to relive one of my personal favorites (mother/daughter cruise) from my collection of cruise videos. Hope you enjoy!! :)

PS. Stay tuned for a new video with our upcoming July cruise which can't come soon enough!

    AWESOME video- Thanks for sharing!!

We leave on Breakaway Sunday..sooooo excited :D

  6. Coming from Rhode Island I would not be going the extra 20-30 minutes and paying the extra $14 bridge toll to stay on Staten Island, particularly on the Friday of Labor Day weekend.

For a 5 day cruise I would pay the $95 to park at the port.

I would recommend two strategies on a holiday weekend.

1). Hotwire 2 rooms in Stamford - there is a 4* hotel for $67 + tax for a total of $87/night. This is going to be a very nice hotel with good access to I95. The next morning you drive the hour to Cape Liberty with substantially less traffic and aggravation. I can provide the directions - You do not want to take I95 through NYC. You can also book two queens at the Hampton Inn Stamford for $148 tax included or $133 AAA tax included. I've stayed here twice - free breakfast and free parking.

2). If you like Hilton Gardens book the one in Secaucus, NJ which offers 2 Queen beds. Otherwise look around for other hotels in Secaucus or Newark Airport that offer two queens.

The difference between stopping in Stamford on Friday night and trying to push through NYC with the holiday traffic could be huge. You may be very very happy to get off the road in the Stamford area.

I guess I should have looked at a map before I booked that one-:o good thing it can be cancelled.

We will be leaving early in the day with hopes to beat the traffic. I will check out Secaucus...

    Thank you!!

  9. DS andI were on Enchantment (5 nights with stops in Georgetown and Cozumel) and had a blast. DH and I are sailing in November stopping in Keywest, Belize and Cozumel - I can't wait.

Each ship I've taken has been more interesting than the last. Enchantment is really enchanting. The Centrum is a wonderful space and I love all the different pool areas.

I am definitely going to try the bungee trampoline in Nov.

    Hi Temple1-

Shame me never met up back in May.....I too missed doing the bungee trampoline:( Hopefully I can try it in Oct!!!

Looking forward to a return trip to Coz and can't wait to see Key West- no Belize for us this time!

    Enjoy!
