  1. I submitted the medical bill to my insurance .Since my husband was still working we have insurance through his work. They paid $1,600.00. We had talked about getting travel insurance but by the time we went to sign up for it on the Princess website it said it was too late. Too close to the cruise. And he felt fine. Walked all over the ports no problem. Six hour excursion with whale watching in Juneau. Afterwards went to the Red Dog had dinner and he even drank a Duck Fart!

  2. My husband of 47 years and I went on our 45 cruise to Alaska on the Discovery Princess. It was a fantastic cruise. But a lot of rain, But we made the most of it. After our stop in Skagway my husband said he was short of breath.  He thought it was his COPD because his doc changed his meds just before we went on the cruise. We took it easy the rest of the day . We had room service in the cabin. The next morning my husband woke me up to say he needed oxygen (which he doesn't ever use) because he was having trouble breathing and having chest pains. I called 911 on the ship. They were there in less than 5 minutes. They took him to the medical facility. I had to take a rapid Covid test before I could see him . When I went in they said he had a heart attack.. He was still saying it was his COPD. They were making plans to have an ambulance meet the ship in Victoria. The Captain sped up the ship to get into port hours earlier than planned.  But while still on the ship his heart stopped .The doctor and nurses heroically tried their best to save him . Using CPR for a long time. But they were not able to save him. So he was gone too soon at age 67. The response was amazing. And I will always remember how hard they tried. It was a nightmare. Having lost my loving husband that I had been with since 15 and married at 18. We have two amazing sons and a Grandson. Having to stay on the ship with him in the morge . Luckily the Captain was able to keep him with us , and when in Seattle I had to arrange for a crematorium to pick him up from the port. There is a lot more detail I wont go into about the process. The Captain was amazing and kind . The medical staff was heroic. Thank you so much. No travel insurance so I was handed a $7,800. bill to be paid (put on my credit card) before I got off the ship. Which  I expected. Jim died Aug 20 2022 doing what he loved

  3. On the video the family went to the Crown Grill for dinner. But his son was disappointed because he wanted to order Escargot in the main dining room .So AFTER they went to the main dining room ,the same night. It came looking like you would normally see it in the dish with the round dish with dips in it. He showed what it was called on the menu "Escargo Bourguignon".

No masks worn at all.  Home 6 days. No covid.

enjoy your cruise. Discovery is an amazing ship. And the crew is awesome.
Capt  stringer and cd Marcus are amazing.   Make sure to utilize the naturalist talks.  And be sure to turn your tv on while going down the Arm Mike gives great commentary.

Thanks for the tips! Getting excited. I was barely able to zip my big suitcase. My hubby thought there was no way I would be able to . Ha Ha

  5. We are cruising Sunday on the Discovery RT Seattle. I think I will wear a mask in port. Maybe in the Main theater and while tendering into Skagway. Probably the only times. We got our PCR tests yesterday and we are both Negative! I want to keep it that way 🙂

Were there several cabins to choose from for the upgrade?

No cabin numbers Just said Deluxe Balcony obstructed for $79.00 or regular balcony obstructed for $59.

  7. The luggage handlers in the Port of Seattle are Teamster Union members. So I wont worry they will starve without my $10 tip 🙂 I always tip on excursions. Which begs the question Do you base an excursion tip on how long the excursion is? Or the original price of the excursion? Or how well the people treated you? We have a 6 hr excursion in Juneau. Whale watching and Mendenhall Glacier. I am thinking maybe $20 tip?

  8. We got the upgrade Email offer this morning for our Discovery Aug 14 sailing.  We booked an inside months ago. Offered a Deluxe Balcony partially obstructed view . For $79.00 extra per person . We grabbed it!

  9. When we booked directly through Princess. We said we would be open to an upgrade. I dont know if you can specify that when booking online? I always say as long as you are on the ship what does it matter what cabin you are in. 45 cruises for me. Some in suites and some in inside cabins.
