  1. It must have been a real headache to change your flights and hotels but it sounds like you got it all worked out.

We are going to wait until we get to Katakolon before we decide what to do there. Like you we may just walk around. If we feel like it we might hop on the express bus that goes to Olympia. We haven't made any firm plans for Corfu yet. It will be another 'wait and see' port for us.

As soon as I clicked the "post" button I realized I'd said we had nothing for Katakolon -- I should have said Corfu! Like the rest of the crowd, we will head for Olympia, but won't spend much time there as my other half, Charles, has severe lung issues and wont be able to do a lot of walking. Instead, we'll spend some time in local villages and visit an olive farm for awhile.

I'm sure you'll be able to get a taxi tour at the port if you so decide.

13 more work days and we'll be headed that way - it can't be soon enough. Greece has been on our "to do" list since we met 11 years ago. Since then, we've been just about everywhere but!!

  2. Hi PattiMerritt! Maybe we will run into you on board the ship. Have you planned all of your port days yet? I am really looking forward to this cruise. It will be the first time for us with MSC. It won't be long now!

Hiya, Luv2....yes, we have planned all of our excursions with the exception of Katakolon. Try as I might, I just couldn't get anyone to respond to my emails. So, we gave up and decided to take an easy day and not do much of anything.

This will be our second MSC Cruise. We cruised the Caribbean with them several years ago and just weren't that impressed, but this cruise fit our schedule and the price was decent, so we decided to give them another try and cruise instead of fly as they hit most of the places we were planning to go. Unfortunately, they changed the itinerary after we'd already booked our other plans, so we had a lot of juggling to do to change flights, hotels, etc. We now arrive Bari late the evening of the 11th. Will spend the night at the Hilton and then leisurely make our way down to the port early afternoon on the 12th. We will now be disembarking with you in Venice a day early (because our flights were already scheduled & paid for), but that's ok-- we don't leave until after 6 p.m., so we still have the whole day to experience the city.

  3. We did a 14 night transatlantic with Royal Caribbean a couple of years ago for $449 pp balcony. Then, because we are stockholders, we got an on board credit of $450....they paid one of us a dollar to go! :-)

  4. Thanks so much for the tour info. Still not sure if 4-5 hrs in venice is enough for me, but not having to get around on our own does have some advantages.

Yes, Betty, we are on the roll call, but not all that interested in cabin crawls, ice cream socials, slot pulls etc. that seems to be the majority of the posts.

Charles and I will be leaving Miami Florida on April 27 on board the NCL epic. We will do an11-night transatlantic and disembark in Barcelona the morning of May 8th. From there, we will fly to Genoa, Italy and spend the night. We are then scheduled to take the train on May 9th down the coast of Italy to Salerno. We will spend two nights in Salerno with a day on the island of Capri. On Sunday, the 11th, we will go up to Rome and spend the day there. That evening, we'll jump another train and head over to Bari for the night. On the 12th, we will catch up with you when we board the Fantasia. Because of the schedule change, we will actually disembark one day early in Venice with you. We depart Rome at 6:45 PM on the 19th, spend the night in London, and then return home to the states. I may try to get some hints from you on what we need to do in Venice the short time we are there.

  5. Scheduled to depart the MSC Fantasia in Venice on Sunday, May 18. Have scheduled a private taxi to airport; however, I just noticed that MSC has a shore excursion that lasts five hours taking you to St. Mark's Square and then ending up at the airport. Has anyone done this shore excursion? If so, can you please provide details?

    Thanks!

  6. Yes, they pick up passengers in different cities. We booked the Fantasia out of Bari on May 10th and about a month after booking they changed our sailing date to the 12th, unless we wanted to pay an additional $200 each to leave on the originally scheduled date from Venice.

I have never sailed on MSC, but I am looking for a cruise this July 2014 to celebrate my 50th b-day :D

I mainly would like to go to Southern Italy, but found some interesting itineraries.

The only question I have is that I noticed on several of the ships they have "7 Night" sailings out of one port & then 2 days later they show another "7 Night" sailing out of another port on the same ship.

Saw this on Splendida, Sinfonia, Musica & Lirica. Does anyone know if they pick up passengers along the way? Seems strange

Also would love any reviews of the above mentioned ships...

    Thanks,

    Leah

  7. Just returned from a weekend on the old Caribe -- now known as the Regal Empress and owned by Imperial Majesty. The ship is making two night cruises from Pt. Everglades to Nassau. While they are trying to take care of her, the cruise itself is nothing more than two days of constant bingo reminders over the loudspeakers... a great disappointment. Sadly, it appears as if Imperial Majesty is taking what used to be a great lady and have turned her into nothing more than a Greyhound bus.
