  1. We were on another cruise (Sad to say it was Premier Cruiselines, God rest their souls!) and they did the Newlywed/Not so Newlywed game on there. I heard

one of the best question/answers I have ever heard.

Let me give you a little background about the couple

before I post the question. This couple were in their 70's

and he was a little hard of hearing.

The CD asked all the ladies while the guys were out of

the room, "What is your husband's favorite Condiment?"

One said Mustard, the second Salt and the oldest Pepper.

Well they brought the men back and asked them the same question.

The first guy said - Mustard - a match!

The second guy said - Mayonnaise - no match

    The last guy said .......

    TROJANS!!!

Everyone roared over that one and the wife smacked the husband a good one. Needless to say, he was known after that show as Mr. Trojan!

I've heard that question/answer in a game on one of the cruises I've been on.

    Coincidence?

  2. First of all to those who don't like the game - don't go! No one says you have to attend!

Also, it really depends on how long you have been married if you get to go up. We have been married 40 years and so are always right in between the age groups so don't really have much of a chance unless it's for the oldest couple but there always seems to be someone who is on their 50th anniversary cruise!

We enjoyed it so much that I used the same idea at our Relay for Life event the last couple of years and it's always a big hit with the crowd. You never can tell how some couples will answer the questions!

Really?!! I don't have to go?

Why do people make asinine statements like that? I know full well that I don't have to go. The only reason I went back last time was because I was hoping that it would be different. Should I just assume that every show will be like the first and never go to another if I don't like it? If that were my mentality I would have never went on another cruise after going on the Holiday for the first time. This thread is about the newleywed game. Just like others, I am saying what I think about it.

What if I said "For all of you who like the game - go see it. No one says you can't attend". See how silly that statement is?

  3. Josh, you sound a bit jaded!

If the CD is good, then the Newlywed game can be tremendously funny, even if you've seen it before.

repete, keep in mind that what you answer may not be what the CD says out loud!;) Hope you make it on stage!:D

I'm not jaded, but after seeing the exact same show 3 times I'm so sick of the newleywed game. Every time they put the guys in shiny boxers with the boas and all that, made some of them lie about their occupation, etc.

It seems like they would realize that this kind of ruins things for past cruisers. They've been doing it that way for at least 4 years that I know of. Why not change it up?

  4. The first time I saw the show another answer choice for this question was "A missionary." The husband in the 50 years couple answered, "A hooker dressed as a nun in the missionary position." His wife then hit him with the clipboard and that was one of the greatest moments of the cruise.

That's the answer I've heard on every cruise I've been on where the newleywed game was played.

After you see it repeated it stops being funny. Knowing that some of the answers are staged kills it. It makes you start to wonder how much of the cruise is fake. It takes away from it knowing that the people who get on the ship after me will hear the same exact answers, then the people after them, and the ones after them...week after week. Every time the cruise director will pretend to laugh like he's never heard it before and every time the audience will explode with laughter. Week after week. Year after year.

You know how when you found out about the easter bunny being fake you felt stupid for every believeing it? It's sort of like that.

  5. I'm not trying to talk you into trying Costa or anything, but it from what I've seen you get more exotic iteneraries and better prices from Costa. We went on a 7 day to Tortola, St. Maartin, Grand Caymen, and one other port that I can't remember right now for around $450 pp.

I could see cig smoke being a problem, but it wasn't for us. It was like any other ship. There are places you are allowed to smoke, and places you aren't. Everything is clearly labeled.

  6. Here is a link to a review I wrote shortly after the cruise:

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=326517

It's hard to say exactly what I liked about it. To me it seemed like Costa was more about letting adults have a good time. They didn't seem so obcessed with forcing the "family friendly" atmosphere. They weren't quite as PC either. You were actually told to boo people at the talent shows if they were bad. Some of the games in the lounges late at night seemed a little more risque than on Carnival cruises. Not raunchy by any means, but they didn't over censor everything either. They let adults be adults. It also seemed like the staff were real people instead of fake butt kissers who are only being nice to get a tip. I'm beginning to feel like a I'm cattle on Carnival cruises. The games are the same on every ship. The staff are friendly, but they seem very fake to me. On Costa the staff would actually hang out with guests. They would sit at the bar and have a drink with you. The servers would sometimes sit down beside us during a show and converse with us. The entire cruise seemed less forced and more like they just wanted to let us have fun in our own way. Toga night was a blast. Maybe it was just the cruise I was on, but it seemed more like a party. No one was drunk and showing out, but it seemed like everyone let go a little more.

After reading that review, feel free to ask any questions. I suggest you try them. Even if it isn't the perfect cruise, you will still have a good time. You may find a new favorite cruise line.

  7. I'm actually starting to worry about the beach. Some of the people who are going on this cruise with me also booked Uvas. They booked Uvas because I urged them to after reading reviews. I'm thinking that they may expect a white sandy beach to lay on. I don't want them to be dissapointed.

  8. Quote from poster a few posts up

**Does anyone know if we snorkel on our own do we HAVE to wear the vests? We have our own snorkel equipment. Thanks!

When we were there last week we did not wear any vests. We paid for no snorkeling tours. We just put on our stuff, got in the water and started snorkeling.

    The snorkeling was fine.

I read these posts very carefully before deciding what to do in Coz. I would not recommend going to this beach "resort" unless you don't mind having group after group of either clear kayak groups or snorkeling groups come through the very small bit of beach. All day long big groups would come, dump their stuff on the plastic chairs, get their snorkeling equipment on, march down to the end of the beach area, jump in and then swim back to the beach, wobble up the sand bag steps, get their stuff from the plastic chairs etc. I listened to many many speeches by the guides regarding the proper way of putting on snorkeling gear, getting in a boat and so on. I had just wanted a quiet beach, so it was not for me. Just a heads up for some others.

We paid $7 pp to enter the beach area. $5 for the use of the umbrella. We got a drink each for that money. The cab fare was $10 each way (for the car, not person). We bought a very small basket of chips with salsa for $4.

Last time in Coz we went to the adjacent park, Chanakanab. We loved it there. I wish we had gone back there instead of being at this place. It felt like Grand Central Station. These are my impressions. YMMV

I don't think that will be a problem for me. There will only be 3 ships in port on the day I'm going to Uvas and they are all 3 small ships. I can see how that could be a problem if 8 or 9 ships were in port that day.

  9. After reading this thread I made reservations at Playa Uvas for our cruise in April. It sounds great. There will be a total of 10 of us going.

I have a few questions though. Hopefully some of you people who've recently visited can give me a few answers.

I've heard that the beach there can be a little rough on the feet. Would you recommend water shoes? Also, with the all inclusive pass drinks are included. After we are done in the water I plan to drink quite a bit. I've been on an all inclusive excursion before and getting a drink was quite a task. Is that the case at Uvas?

Do any of you have recent pictures of the place?

  10. When you put thousands of people on something the size of a cruise ship, then feed them all they can eat, I'd expect sewage to be a problem. Think of all the food that gets eaten. We all know what it turns into. Nasty.

I get annoyed when I smell a sewage smell on a cruise ship, but I'm pretty forgiving about it. Things can't work perfectly all the time. With that much sewage to deal with it doesn't seem like it would take much of a hiccup in the system for the smell to go where it shouldn't.

  11. Hey Josh:

Saw your post on the Mariner and wanted to say hi!

    A baby huh? CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I added you to my buddy list, but I work evenings, so I'm not on that often except for during the day.

I saw your reply to my post in the Mariner thread but didn't want to clutter it with a reply. I would ask you how you are doing and all of that but I don't want to clutter this thread either. I will add you to my buddy list. Maybe I will see you on one day. I work days so our schedules are completely opposite.

Does CruiseCritic not allow private messaging or am I just overlooking it?

  12. Apple martinis. They taste foo-foo, but they definately don't feel foo-foo.

I drink them at home. My friends make fun of me and call me a wuss, but they are drinking beer. If you really wanna argue it, which is more foo-foo a drink that's only 7% alcohol, or a drink that's half 80 proof vodka?
