  1. Are there wheelchairs available at the Port of San Francisco to assist with boarding?

Just booked a cruise in/out of the Port of SF.... and so excited! We are traveling with my parents and walking more than a short distance will be a challenge. Short distances on board are fine as there are plenty of chairs and "rest stops" but I am concerned about the embarkation and disembarkation. Does anyone know if wheelchairs are available at the port to assist with boarding? And, are there larger sized wheelchairs?

    Thanks!

  2. As the excitement of our upcoming cruise grows, especially since this will be our first as Platinum, I am wondering how Preferred Boarding works at FLL. My main question is if there is a separate door/queue? I have seen posts where we could just go to the entrance to the building. Does anyone know how this works? Thanks!

  3. Coffee card: I am not a coffee drinker, but my hubby is (and kind of picky about it ;) ). He has never purchased the coffee card and has been happy with the coffee from room service in the mornings. When he wants a coffee drink, he just pays for it. If you prefer coffee drinks, then the card may be worth it for you.

Sanctuary: The only time we used the Sanctuary was when we sailed during Spring Break. It was a very welcome reprieve from the busy-ness of a Spring Break cruise. If we sail again during a peak holiday season, we will certainly plan on the Sanctuary, but for regular cruises, the adult pool area is just as nice.

  4. Thanks everyone for talking me off the worry ledge and bringing me back to normal. I sort of knew I was creating a mountain, and your words of wisdom helped me down.

Now, I will now focus on the fun and relaxation we have in our near future. Thanks again!

  5. Is your vacation going to be ruined if the service isn't flawless? If not, then who cares? When I have an issue with service, I'm usually over it about 2 minutes later.

I think people who are "prepared" for poor service are more likely to notice poor service. Why someone would even think about it before a cruise makes no sense to me.

Thanks for grounding me. You are right, my trip will not be ruined by poor service and before too long I am over it. I am a planner and just want this trip to be perfect as it is my hubby's birthday.

While we do have high expectations, we also know that everyone has an off day and I usually hope their day gets better. As I hope your day get better.

  6. I have read several reviews discussing the level of service provided by the wait staff, bartenders, etc. and now am worried I need to prepare myself for confrontations and/or disappointments while on NCL. We enjoy embarkation lunch in a MDR opposed to the buffet and have read that is difficult on NCL. We also tend to shy away from the specialty restaurants, but it seems that the waitstaff does not encourage dining in the MDR.

Bit of background: We are experienced cruises, first time on NCL. We both work in the hospitality industry, knowing what to expect as far as service goes and know the challenges that come along with the job.

Am I worrying for nothing and making a mountain out of a mole hill?

  7. It's really hard to get a feel for a cruise line on a 3-night cruise. They tend to be party cruises, with mostly locals looking to get away for the weekend. I'm assuming you're going on the Sky. I love that ship. She has one of the friendliest crews at sea. You will have a good time. It will be a very relaxed cruise, with a party amosphere.

I am sort of expecting it to be a party cruise with a lot of locals, but we are pretty good at finding quieter areas where we can relax. And, yes, we will be on the Sky.

  8. Very excited for a quick three night NCL cruise, but have never sailed with NCL before. What are the idiosyncrasies of this cruise line?

We have sailed on Princess, RCL, and Disney. Eager to learn about NCL as well!

    Thanks!

  9. So have you told him anything? How will you get him to Miami?

Still haven't said anything to him, but EVERYONE at my work knows! :D

Since we are driving to Miami, I told him that we are going for the weekend and have a Biscayne Bay boat tour at noon on Friday. Just didn't mention it is a really big boat!

  10. Just booked a surprise bday cruise for my hubby! So excited, I am going to burst! I don't know how I am going to keep this secret for 16 more days.

This is our first NCL cruising, cruising on the Sky out of Miami. So, what do I need to know about NCL to make this an amazing trip? I have already alerted NCL of his bday, but what else?

Any tips, tricks, and pearls of wisdom are welcome!

    Thanks!
