We're on the Summit out of St. Maartin in a couple of weeks, and I've seen nothing about a test at the pier.  We're supposed to have a test within 72 hours of arrival to the island to satisfy St. Maartin and a test within 72 hours of "departure" (boarding, I suppose) to satisfy Celebrity.  Since we are flying in on departure day, we can use the same test.

Since you are a week apart, I expect you'll need to get that test at hotel.  Again, I've seen nothing about testing at the pier, and we've received at least one email with details on what's required to board.

Just as an aside, do you really want to test at the pier? It sounds like results can take a good couple of hours or so to come back, and I don't know why you still wouldn't have to pay for it (there's no offer from Celebrity to cover pre-boarding test costs; only anything required once on board for scheduled ports and return port).  My two cents says to pony up at the hotel a couple days before boarding and then relax.

Just relaying what a poster said on our July 24th board, on his experience from his June 12th cruise. Given that Celebrity has not been very  up to date on information, ( tracelets or no tracelets) I was inquiring if any other cruisers had found the same on the June 12th or another cruise.

  2. On our Summit July 24th sailing a poster said that Celebrity was doing tests at the pier for boarding on their June 12th cruise. Does anyone know if they are doing that at St. Maartin? We are staying on the island for a week ahead of the cruise and can get a test at our hotel but it is $75 a piece for the test.

The hotel (Boutique) is where I think most recommendations stem from. That is where I have stayed, although it has been consistently upgraded since my visit -- and I was very happy with it at the time.

The "accommodations" are basically more like self-catering rooms/flats/apartments. They look like a new venture for Nerva -- looks like they are individual one-off places in a couple of locations.  Depends on what you prefer -- I like staying in a hotel, as a solo, and the Nerva includes a great breakfast as well. I also think the location is hard to beat if you want to be near "ancient Rome" (the forums, the Colosseum, Palatine hill, Baths of Caracalla, Domus Aurea -- all are in EASY walking distance).

Thanks for the quick response and information. Went to their website and looked at Tripadviser couldn't find any information about covid restrictions and what their cancellation policy is if things are still iffy in October. The area is ideal for us as we have never been to Rome before.

  4. We are looking for hotels prior to our cruise in October and planning on coming in 4 days early. We have looked at Nerva after reading some of the recommendations, but I see that there are 2 Nerva hotels listed. Nerva Boutique and Nerva accommodation. Would appreciate opinions/recommendations on each of them.

And don't forget--unless they extend it--all FCCs must be used by early May 2022.  And only one can be used on each cruise---no stacking.

Does anyone know how long it takes X to refund your money once they wake up and cancel the 10 day cruises in January? Definitely not interested in FCC and they have had our money long enough.

With due respect, if you see no difference in how Celebrity is handling cancellations versus other cruise lines then you have not been paying attention.  How many lines have already cancelled cruises through March 2021?  The answer is several.  Celebrity still is booking cruises in early January, including 10 night cruises which would not be allowed to sail even if by some miracle some cruising starts in January.  Before I lifted and shifted, I had a B2B on Connie in early January, an 11 night and a 10 night.  They have yet to be cancelled if I am not mistaken.  They absolutely, positively, without question have known for some time that those sailings would not occur but they have done nothing. If you look on the website you will see multiple January sailings still being sold, including 10 and 11 night.  Most of these (and all the 10 and 11 night Caribbean) will not sail but they are still selling them.  I think that is unethical.  I don't understand how anyone could consider it otherwise.

How many cruise lines have already cancelled all cruises over 7 nights out of the US for most (or all) of 2021?  The answer again is several.  Celebrity has done nothing other than shift some ships around, cancel reservations, and really p**s off a number of cruisers who were not offered the opportunity to lift and shift those sailings.  And those changes were related to a change in the embarkation port of San Juan, rather than due to the virus.

I know times are tough, and Celebrity is certainly not to blame for the virus.  But the line is definitely not handling the changes as well as many other lines, and often in ways I consider unethical.

With a 10 night cruise booked and fully paid for in January 2021 on the Reflection and seeing Celebrity canceling numerous cruises throughout the rest of 2021 of this length one wonders who makes these scheduling decisions. Neither myself or our TA can get an answer from Celebrity. I'm not even thinking about asking about our transatlantic Reflection cruise in October.

  7. I am curious a few months ago Celebrity and RCL websites had listed a "policy" that passengers over 70 would need a letter from a physician stating they were in good health in order to board. I don't see it listed on the site anymore and wondering if they have rescinded this policy. Not sure if a doctor would want to provide such a letter and possibly open themselves up to litigation.

  8. The U. S. Congress is considering financial assistance to the cruise industry, not sure about other countries plans. I plan on contacting my Congressmen about concerns of the cruise industry customers especially the high risk age group about having the option of refunds vs FCC. And also quizzing them about the length of time to make a decision about cancellations

I agree that it is unreasonable to ask a cruise line to think many months ahead...but on the other hand we as quests must think 4 months ahead when we consider making the final payment. I really do not want to cancel my August cruise, nothwithstanding the fact that it is Italy intensive.  A shorter payment window would certainly keep me in the running!

With countries shutting down as far as allowing non citizens to enter you would think Azamara and RCL would realize their customers need more time to decide to sail or not. Our decision right now will be to cancel before the penalty phase kick in next month if they don't shorten the payment window.

Ask them to take you to the Hilton Marina next to the 17th Street bridge.  The water taxi stop is under the bridge.

See the routes/stops on their website:  www.watertaxi.com.

Added:  I realized I didn't answer your question about Uber/Lyft pricing.  I don't have experience with Lyft (although the prices are probably similar) but when I want to get an estimate for an Uber ride I go to https://uberestimator.com/

You can use the drop off location:  Water Taxi Stop - Hilton Marina/ Convention Center

    Thanks for the advice
