  1. We were on the Costa Luminosa.  Negligent doesn't begin to describe how we were treated.  Information was knowingly withheld.  The New York Times reported what was going on before we were told anything by Costa.  For days we were allowed to use bars, restaurants, the casino, the spa, stores - anything that would make them money.  Finally, when we were confined to our cabins food was delivered by crew who were sick.  Disembarkation in Marseille and the flight home was a nightmare - over 300 people (some of whom who were clearly sick) were crammed into a plane.  They told us to self-isolate for 14 days.  Today is day 4.  I've had a fever for the past two days.  Anybody else?

The first thing we do when deciding what to spend OBC on is to determine how much of it is refundable. Then, once onboard, we launder our nonrefundable OBC into refundable by going to the Destination Services desk and rebookng enough of our prebooked O excursions to convert it to refundable. Then, it’s a nobrainer as any OBC we have left, which is usually the majority of it, at the end of the cruise we can cash out and take home with us.

Please explain further.  I had no idea that any OBC could be refundable.  Thanks.

  3. We used discover-japan-tours.com The owner of the companies name is Yoskee, and he will pick you up at the port and give you a tour of whatever you would like to do. We had him give us a tour of Yokohama for the day and then drive us back to our hotel in Tokyo. The next day he picked us up at our hotel and gave us a tour of Tokyo for the day. To cut down on the cost, we found another couple on our roll call to join us, and this brought down the cost considerably. We happened to be staying at the same hotel. Check out his web sight it worked out well for us.

Thanks so much for this information. Unfortunately they are already booked for April 2018 when we will be there. Anybody have any other suggestions?

    Thanks.

  4. Hello! We will arrive at Cherbourg on may 2016. If someone of you did Mont St. Michel from Cherbourg by own, please tell me how. I don t find proper train or bus transfer. Our ship will be in the port from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Thanks a lot!

I don't see that anyone ever answered your question. Did you figure out how to do it? We will be in Cherbourg in May and Mont St. Michel is exactly where we want to go. Thanks!

  5. Obviously most Costa Cruiseline passengers do not frequent Cruise Critic message boards. I'm traveling on the Favolosa out of Barcelona on May 16. I'd love to put together some private tours but I have no idea how to connect with other passengers.

    Any suggestions?

  6. Can someone provide information on tour companies that will go from Cherbourg to Mont St Michel? I having trouble finding any. Will be in Cherbourg for one day next May. My husband wants very badly to go to Mont St Michel but we really don't want to drive there on our own.

    Thanks!

  7. We will be spending a few pre-cruise days in Hamburg and are wondering if it's worth going to Berlin for a day. Train seems pretty expensive. Bus would be cheaper but takes longer. Suggestions? Or should we just spend the time in Hamburg and save Berlin for another time?

  8. Okay - here's a question...We have Elite status on Celebrity. We're about to book a cruise on MSC. They are apparently offering a 5% discount if we join their loyalty program and will match our Elite status. The questions are do we need to book first or apply for the loyalty program first in order to obtain the discount? Also, what level will we get on MSC to match Elite on Celebrity? Thanks!!!!

  9. We will be having a layover in Istanbul next year. We arrive about 3 in the afternoon and leave around 10 the next morning. Is it preferable to get a tour guide to take us around (we are a group of 4 adults) or can we see things on our own. Basically we have only one evening. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  10. Wow!~ I just found this thread and it looks like I've made some pretty good choices on my own. We're doing the Celebrity Solstice cruise out of Sydney, leaving March 3. We're flying in a week early, spending a few days in Cairns and a few days at Ayers Rock (where we have booked the Sounds of Silence Dinner). We've booked a trip out of Sydney to the Blue Mountains, and a trip out of Melbourne to the Great Ocean Road. On one of our stops, in Akaroa, we're spending the day with the mailman. I can't wait!!!!!
