1. Sailing on Breakaway in March. Planned on shooting some pool at O'Sheehans (very rarely get to play when at home) so bringing my cue. Also saw that they mentioned darts as well. Can anyone tell me how many pool tables there are (is there always a wait?) and if the Darts they speak of are real dart boards or the lame electronic pay to play ones?

  2.
Admittedly, making mobile friendly websites is hilariously annoying. It's like trying to catch a greasy pig sometimes because device and browser updates don't always play nice and can frequently cause issues on sites that are otherwise well constructed. You can do everything right as a developer, only to see a Chrome/Safari/device/whatever update completely wreck your work. It's frequently a mystery too because unless their web team has people doing mobile testing all day every day, they generally won't know until someone external reports it.
You nailed it. I have no knowledge of such things but my brother does. Works for a company that designs and manufactures DC power supplies of all shapes and sizes for the computer world. He is constantly working with the engineers to help create the proper power that they need. His job by description has nothing to do with compatibility of systems (I-pad vs. lap-top vs. I-phone etc..) but the people he deals with complain about it all the time. work for weeks to fix a glitch, it works and then someone does an update and all is in the wind. Must be frustating:eek:
  3. Let me preface this by saying that we are loyal NCL cruisers, and CAS members. While we're not "whales" in the casino, we're definitely players, and CAS has always rewarded that play quite well.

Last week we booked a Christmas week Caribbean cruise on the Escape through CAS. We took their comp offer, which was a good one, paid the taxes and fees, and booked our airline tickets.

TODAY, a woman from CAS called, and left a message informing us that we have been "downgraded" from the cabin level they previously offered, and for which we have a confirmed reservation in hand. Her message simply said that we had been "over-comp'd" when they made the original offer - an offer we accepted and acted on.

To put it mildly, we are p*&(34 Off! Is this how NCL & CAS treat their loyal customers? What kind of business model says you should take a longtime, loyal customer, make them an offer, book it, and then suddenly pull the rug out from under them and say "ooops. Sorry."

I guess we're headed over to another cruise line from now on.

I am not a gambler, I am not CAS member so I do not talk from experience or direct knowledge but, it sounds to me that after you booked your cruise a huge whale (meaning he will lose much much more money than you) contacted NCL and demanded a deal. They had already run out of comps so they took yours away. It's bull---- but corporations want money NOT friends. And in the whole scheme of things they THINK they WILL make more money off of him than you. Truly a shame. I agree with the other poster, call ask for a supervisor and make a stink. That's most likely how someone else got your reservation.

  4. I am sure someone has asked this question but I'll be damned if I can find it! We are thinking of using iConcierge but I am curious about the "Nominal Per Minute Fee During Cruise". Just how deep are they going to reach into my pocket. How much is the fee and if anyone knows, how much of a tab will a family of four run up sailing for seven days. Taking into consideration VERY LIGHT USE, simple communications only.

  5. I was just reading a thread which was discussing the fact that if you have an excursion booked when you arrive in your state room there will be an envelope with your excursion documents and tickets for boarding the tender to take you to the beach. My question is how much earlier do you get on the tenders and is it worth it to book a snorkeling package (we were planning on bringing our own snorkeling stuff anyway) just to get an early departure on the tenders. :) Also, my wife just had a really good question. Will the snorkeling eat up the entire time we are at GSC? Will we have any time on the beach?

  6. Wow thanks for the info. We're sailing in March & I'm the same way with the reviews, it seems you either have a great time or an awful one.

Sounds like you had a good time. I absolutely love Bermuda and wish we were going there, but we have to go in March so it's the Bahamas route.

What time did you get to the pier? I know you said early, but I'm wondering how early. We're coming up from Philly & I'm trying to figure out if we should come in the night before.

Is there a coffee place you can just pick up a cup other than the buffet (either free or pay)? My mom drinks lots and she loved the little coffee place when we were on Princess.

    Thanks

I think, and believe me I could be wrong (just talk to my wife ) there are two types of vacationers. Having read threads about various vacation destinations, there are those who are will have a good time even when there the inevitable hiccups (have never been on a vacation without a few rearing their ugly heads) and those who consider every hiccup as ruination of the perfectly planned vacation. It should also be remembered that more people will complain about every little mishap on their vacation and how it ruined it, than the number of people who had a wonderful time but did not take the time to let us all know. (they paid their money, got what was expected and went on their merry way whistling a happy tune).:)

  7. Hey everyone, let me start by saying thanks to all you fellow CC members for all the help you been. We are currently booked in a Balcony stateroom BD/10866. If in the event we get contacted for an upsale, is there any rhyme or reason as to what you are offered. Do you only get offered a one level move up or is it more like what they have open to move you into is what is offered.:D

  8. Thank you all so much for your assurance of a nice cabin location. My wife picked it out, we kinda new what it was close to, and I knew she made a good decision deck layout wise but was glad to hear that there would be minimal vibrations from the engines.:D

  9. We are staying in balcony stateroom 10886, category BD. Has anyone stayed in that room, or close to it, that can give me any insight, good bad location and so on. If it turns out to be a bad location can I contact cruise consultant and change location without losing any perks? :D

  10. Having found out that we will have 7 to 8 hours off the ship at the Port, thanks to all you guys here at cruise critic, what is there to do? I have done some research, not exhaustive by any means, but from what I've seen it is a long ride to anything beyond Port Canaveral. Please advise. I'm sure if there is nothing really exciting to do we will be just fine enjoying the amenities onboard. As always thanks in advance to all you cruise-aholics for any and all help you can bestow upon us.:D

  11. I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I would say that you can count on close to 8 hours in port.

Thank you johnql for your help. Now I feel comfortable that we will indeed have enough time to get off the ship and enjoy some time at port Canaveral.:D

  12. if port canaveral is port stop, you will only need to be back on the ship 30 minutes before sail time and debarking the ship is quick. Usually within 10-25 minutes of docking, you can get off the ship

That 2 hours prior departure posted online is only required for Day 1 of the cruise during embarkation.

Thank you shof 515. Have only been on 1 cruise prior to this 25 years ago (honeymoon) which stopped in Bermuda and just stayed there and really did not have to worry about getting on and off at a specific time. So considering the ship docks at 12:00 PM and departs at 9:00 PM, can I be rest assured to have a solid 6 hours to enjoy the port. What do you think?:)

  13. Considering it will take a fair amount of time to disembark when we arrive at Port Canaveral (I've heard it can be an hour or more) and we need to be prepared to be back to the ship 2 hours prior to departure does it make any sense to get off the ship at all?, or just stay onboard and enjoy the ship experience.:D

  14. We leave in 2 days to start our Alaskan Sun Cruise. We got a call to upgrade from Balcony to a forward facing penthouse and we jumped on it. I am so excited....

Now we have absolutely no idea whats included as we have never cruised above a balcony and never cruised with NCL. With all the recent changes can someone please tell me the perks I should look forward to. Ive tried doing a search but the ones of the sun are before the changes and not very good.

I know a butler but what does a butler do?

Ive read a designated embarkation line. Is it before check-in or after check-in?

    Thanks in advanced!!!!!

Awesome hope you enjoy :D If I may ask, how much did the up-sale cost. We have a balcony (deck 10) for our 25th anniversary and we are curious if, as it gets closer to sail date, we would receive a call to up-sell as we are traveling in March which is a somewhat slower season. Maybe we will have the same good luck as you, provided we can afford the $$$. Once again enjoy your vacation and remember that even a bad day cruising is better than a good day at work

  15. The last time I went to GSC they called the general boarding for all guests at about 10:15, we went down at 11, after a relaxing breakfast, and we didn't have to wait for a tender. I'm going back next month, and have a 10:30 shore excursion booked, so I'll get the priority tendering. You just have to book ANYTHING on GSC to get priority now. So, an umbrella, scuba gear, or a float will get you priority as well.

Moonieelf, thank you so very much for your idea. I'm thinking I'll book the snorkeling thing for myself, and because I need to be off the ship for that, there is no reason why my family should stay behind and have to meet me later and we will all get priority tendering. Once again, thank you so much for your guidance and we wish you have an awesome time on your upcoming cruise.

  16. After Haven, other suite, platinum, and early excursion guests, it's first come, first served, basically.

I have known the crew to hand out tickets and you wait for your number before heading down, but this doesn't happen on every ship. Despite being asked not to, a lot of people clog the passageways in order to get there five minutes earlier.

Personally, I've found that if you wait and have a leisurely breakfast, it's a lot easier, but each to his or her own, I guess.

Thank you, Guindalf, truly appreciate your assistance. We do enjoy a nice sit down breakfast as a family since that almost never happens at home. If we go that route how much time, in your opinion, do you think we will have on the island.

Stay safe and out of harms way!

  17. How do they assign your place in line for the tenders to the Island, is it first come first serve or are you assigned a position. We like to get up rinse off an go go go! Would hate to spend hours waiting to get on the beach. Thanks in advance fellow cruisers

  18. Booked a cruise on the Breakaway (NCL). it will stop at GSC. My question is how is the loading of the tenders to take to the beach done. Is it first in line goes first and so on, or are you assigned a place on one of the transports. We are a family of four (everyone says we are crazy for bringing kids with us on our 25th celebration) and when on vacation we are a get and go kind of group. We would hate to be standing around for hours waiting to hit the beaches. If I have to wait around I am going to party and will be too drunk to go to the beach LOL. Any help will be greatly appreciated.:D
