  1. I always add an extra $1 or $2 per drink. On the first day of my cruise I find my favorite bartender and throw him $50 and he will make sure you never have to wait in line for a drink. I give my room steward $50 on the first day as a bonus and I give the servers at the specialty restaurants an extra $10 per person.

These people work hard and 7 days per week sometimes for 6 months or longer with long hours. They work much harder than I do so I make sure I let them know I appreciate them being there for me.

  2. Sorry I didn't start with saying we contacted them MORE than 3 weeks ago. It actually was Sept 22.

I simply want others to take away 2 things....Always ASK and Celebrity is not customer service focused.

When the inconsistency in treatment was reported to Celebrity, their response was less than customer-focused and the inconsistencies as you got passed from person to person were apalling.

Being air travelers, we're programmed that closer to travel equals more expensive, no such thing as low fare guarantees on virtually all airlines. I would not even have thought to do research on fares. And BTW I did happen to use this site before booking to do research.

I 'have always had Excellent Customer Service with Celebrity and RCCL. They are following the rules and they can't make up new ones for you.

  3. And that is a bogus argument really isn't it.

What real costs are there? The staff is already there, so they are not costing anything else. The receipt paper costs pennies for them to print those 2 6" pieces of receipt paper. Losing a customer who will complain over 50 cents isn't a loss anyway. They are not a customer contributing to the necessary onboard spending that is the profitable part of the cruise for the cruise lines.

Buying just 1 single case of receipt paper is $19.95 for 50 85' rolls. Or 40 cents per roll. That 85' roll will accommodate 85 sales (2 6" receipts per transaction). This makes each sale cost .0047 cents each, half a cent.

Of course, Celebrity is buying in bulk, so paying far less than I just buying a single case at Restaurant Discount Warehouse.

So for an investment of half a cent, they made $1.00 in profit. That's a pretty good investment.

I buy the premium upgrade, just so I know I can buy the glasses over $13 for the overage only. I'm happy to pay just 50 cents, $1 or $2 for a glass of wine that should normally be $15.

And in setting pricing in F&B operations, It's all just simple mathematics. Cost plus whatever markup, and round up to the nearest plateau, seems X is rounding in 50 cent increments. Perhaps the OP would be happier if they marked it up to the nearest dollar or 5 dollar increment, and not 50 cents? Or maybe lower the threshold to $12 a glass, therefore the markup would have been $1.50 each glass, and not a "petty" 50 cents?

    Well said and agreed 100%!

  4. :)

Sailed on the Reflection on September 21st, and I scanned many (if not all) of the bars menus while on board. Everything looks like these menus will be current at least for the rest of the year. I had classic package, so please feel free to ask.

Regarding the Martini Bar, Classic Package holders CAN order the following MARTINIS only:

Classic Martini, Cosmopolitan, Gin Martini, Peach Martini. All of them will be served in small martini glasses, which are big enough for me.

All other cocktails, beers, wines, sodas, spirits and liquors covered by the classic package can be ordered without problem there.

I didn't try the Molecular bar, so I can't comment on it. I hope these documents will be useful.

That is awesome! Thank you for taking the time to do this!

  5. I am currently on the Infinity and having a wonderful time.

We have the Premium Bev. Package. That package covers wine by the glass up to $13. Last night at Blu, I ordered a Poilly Fume (spelling does not count) and it was $13.50. I had two glasses and actually had to sigh the chit for $1.18. I know it is built into the computer system but ...?

I think some common sense would be used either to raise the package limit to cover basic wines - as $13.50 was the standard price - or to lower wine prices to be covered by the premium limit.

The printing, signing, and reconsiling the extra .50 probably costs more than the upcharge.

Question poster... I see you are a golfer, if you went and paid for 9 holes but wanted to go ahead and play the back 9 would you expect to do so for free? Being a business owner myself it upsets me when I offer a product at a certain amount ans people want it for less. I have been very successful by being fair and great customer service just like I feel Celebrity is with their offerings. Enough about this and just be happy you were on the cruise.

  6. There will always be a glass of something a bit higher than the limit. Raise it to $14.00 and it will be the same if you order a glass that cost $14.50. Raise it to $15.00 and, well, you get the idea, right?

Hey, at least you have the Premium pkg and didn't have to cover it all!:D

I agree 100%. If you didn't want to spend the .50 order something under the $13 and be happy!
