  1. I think the challenge on my specific sailing was that we were doing Canada & New England the first week of June and some days were VERY cold (like 40 degrees). So when the only food available was outside at the Great Outdoors or Topsiders, it was miserable.

     

    We were on the 6/23 Canada & New England, and other than 2 days, it was cold outside as well. They actually moved the Great outdoors... indoors.... on a couple of days.

     

    Food was ... meh. No Lobster on the cruise at all, which is strange for a Canada/NE cruise IMO.

     

    They don't do Italian on the ship. Really trust me on this. Other than that, you can find decent food throughout and there are some "gems" (no pun intended) at each food venue.

  2. There may be a few posters who have photographed the moon, but just didn't put up any examples. I was late to the thread when I saw the topic, and I've explained to many different people over the years who aren't familiar with shooting moons at night how to expose for typical daylight settings...I didn't think to post any examples though. I have shot the moon in many states, with a vast variety of lenses, including some really serious focal lengths...for example, here's one shot handheld with a 500mm lens and 2x teleconverter on an APS-C sensor camera, for 1,500mm equivalent:

    Here's a dusk moon with a 600mm lens on APS-C for a 900mm equivalent, plus a lot of cropping - it's a not-quite full moon, which actually can be BETTER for seeing crater detail than shooting the moon when it's full:

    That's another piece of advice I like to give moon shooters - don't just wait around for the full moon - shoot the crescents, half-moons, and just before and after it's full - often the details are crisper and you get more dimensionality.

     

    what settings do you use? I have yet to get a good moon shot! :eek:

  3. I have brought my HT with me on every cruise. I’ve never had any problems. Not even a second look. Both a Yaesu ft-60R, and a Baofeng UV5. I’d be unhappy if anything happened to the Yaesu, it has been with me longer then my first wife. If the Baofeng gets damaged or destroyed, I’m out $30.

    The safety and security of our guests and crew is our number one priority. The following items are prohibited on-board vessels. These items will be confiscated and not transported aboard. When an item is determined to be illegal the appropriate authorities will be informed.

     

     

    • 1. All illegal narcotics/drugs. (Including Marijuana prescribed for medical purposes and other items used as drug paraphernalia. This includes Hookah Pipes).
    • 2. All firearms including replicas, imitations, non-firing weapons, starting pistols and their components
    • 3. Air, BB or pellet pistols or rifles
    • 4. Any other projectile-weapon or item that resembles or can be mistaken as a firearm (e.g., paint ball guns)
    • 5. All ammunition or replica ammunition for listed line items 2, 3 & 4
    • 6. All explosives, component parts (i.e. detonators) including imitation explosives and devices
    • 7. Fireworks, flares, and pyrotechnics
    • 8. Martial Arts Weapons (i.e. throwing stars, flails)
    • 9. Knives with a blade longer than 4 inches/10.16 cm

    • 17. Flammable substances and hazardous chemicals. (e.g., petrol, methylated spirits, paint thinners, lighter fuel, etc.)
    • 18. Any other item made, adapted or intended for use as an offensive weapon
    • 19. Stun devices (i.e. Tazers and Stun Guns)
    • 20. Large batteries
    • 21. Items brought on board the vessel and not supplied by the Company containing any kind of heating element, such as but not limited to: immersion heaters, heating blankets, clothing irons, water heaters, coffee machines with heating/hot plates, etc.
    • 22. Any remotely controlled or autonomously flying devices, toys or drones
    • 23. Self-balancing hover boards, air wheels, scooters, or Segway’s
    • 24. Compressed gas tanks, bottles, cylinders including dive tanks, propane tanks and large aerosol cans
    • 25. Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), ham radios, satellite phones, transformers, lasers and laser pointers
    • 26. Any form of radio/ telephone signal jamming equipment
    • 27. Samsung Note 7
    • 28. Candles

    anyhoo, stoked as this is our first real vacation in over 3 years.

     

    just praying for a couple of nice days @ bermuda... anything more is a bonus LOL!

     

    Trip back from Caribbean on our voyage aboard the Explorer OTS was a rockin' and rollin' trip with 20-30' waves. I survived that so think the trip over to Bermuda will be fine.

     

    Just a quick followup on our Gem cruise to Bermuda (was cleaning out my inbox and found this...)

     

    We went on a NCL excursion - bus trip to Hamilton with a stop at a garden.

     

    It was "ok" and intended to just quickly see half the island before venturing back on our own.

     

    Before we got there, Bermuda had experienced a lot of rain, 2" or so according to our driver. At the garden my wife twisted her ankle in washed out gravel, requiring us (driver and myself) to carry/assist her back to the van. Unknown to us, NCL claims policy would be for the driver to take us to the hospital for treatment (the hospital was a few minutes from the garden). The driver said 'oh, just go back to the boat and they'll help you'. He dropped us off in Hamilton, told me where a drug store was. I was going to ask him to help me get my wife some help as she was clearly in a lot more pain then originally thought, another passenger and myself got her to a bench by the ferry terminal, and I turned around and the driver/van disappeared.

     

    We managed to get back to the ferry by the NCL Gem, and i walked over and managed to convince the ship to come with a wheel chair to get my wife.

     

    On board NCL was a pain to deal with, originally charging me for a wheel chair rental and just basically not wanting to deal with the situation.

     

    NCL eventually came through and refunded our money for the wheel chair and excursion, after some complaining. Had we not been on an official NCL excursion we would have been completely on our own.

     

    Just a word of caution about these things.
