  1. Unfortunately P and O seem to think that once you get over 60 your musical taste disappears and we morph into our parents, ballads, crooners, show tunes, etc. Now there is nothing wrong with that. But at 68 I still like something more livelier, I still play in a rock and roll band.it is difficult, but I get a little fed up of hearing someone direct from the West End singing the usual easy listening stuff. However, the standard of entertainment is good and I do, in the main, enjoy them. But please, P and O, don’t assume because I am seen as ‘Over the hill’, that I want lift music all the time. As I said, before someone jumps on me, it is difficult to please everyone, and P and O have to try and hit the middle line.

  2. Thought the ship looked hideous, as though they had just plonked the top bit on top. No sleek lines, just not attractive to look at. The organisation looked very good. But this is what puts me off the larger ships, but then they are not aiming at my age group. The entertainment group certainly earn their money.

  3. The dress codes are part of what attract us to cruising. We enjoybeing, and seeing everybody else, in their finery. The codes are made clear in the brochures and  every travel show. If people don’t want to dress up, fine, but accept that the majority of others do. Alternatively don’t cruise.

  4. As are those who raise the same points on every tipping thread time and time and time again!!!!

Please, let’s not turn this into yet another round of circular arguments about tipping. It’s now completely futile. P&O has now made the decision for us. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by any further debate on the pros and cons, distribution or anything else about service charges on P&O as they will no longer exist.

The only issue that remains is whether or not some passengers may choose to tip some of the staff who have gone ‘over and above’ some cash. That is entirely a matter for those passengers and nothing to do with anyone else. To try to make an issue out of that is picking an argument for the sake of it.

    Well said

  5. Really

What part of the UK are you talking about? It’s very much accepted everywhere I have lived - and do you know what it makes us nicer people

The fact is that some in the service industry have jobs with zero hours and minimum wage and tipping them - provided you have had good service - is the norm

Getting fed up the way some cheapskates try to justify their behaviour. Can afford TAG watches but won’t give a waiter a few pounds. You must be really proud

What a pompous response. I have lived all over the uk and tipping has never been expected. Lots of people work for minimum wage and don’t get a tip. Where has TAG watches come from.

  6. Why should we tip the hairdresser. Why do people, only want to tip certain trades. Why do we tip, and if we do why do certain people have to brag about it. It is nobody else’s business, if you do it fine, you don’t have to tell the world about it, if you, don’t once again that’s fine. All this rubbish about subsidising other peoples cruises is just plain daft, silly and childish.

  7. I read your link and I copied this from it. So do you still think it acceptable to remove the tips because it doesn't seem fair to the crew.

Between the greedy cruise executives and the miserly passengers who remove the gratuities, the hard working crew members seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place.

You still seem to think that those who remove tips are miserly. We remove tips, and tip accordingly. It may not be how you do it, please don’t judge others by what you do.
