  1. How was the walk there? DH and I discussed walking from the dockyard, but we've been to Bermuda before and know what the roads are like. Thinking we should just take the bus.

I would NOT recommend walking there. When we did it in 2015 it was hot and we were walking from sea glass beach. Woodys was like an oasis for us. I would recommend a taxi or the bus.

We did walk to sea glass beach beach from the dockyard. I would not recommend that either.

But that walk is another story!!!

  2. I have been there!! Awesome place and the people are super nice. We actually ended up walking there(long story) and after being there for a while we went to get the bus to go back to the ship. The bus never came and the bartender told one of her customers to give us a ride back to ship and he did!!! And he wouldn’t take any money for us. (We did leave some in the back seat)

You should definitely try to go there!!

  3. IF they are scanning your card, then the system should have your drinks consumption. Ask for a printout at guest services, although, you may not want to know how much you are really drinking!!!

We calculated ahead of time how many drinks per day we needed to not lose out on our package purchase (not on Norwegian), then planned how many drinks, where, what kind, etc (see Compulsive Cruise Prep thread for hints there).

    Just adds to the fun!

Thank you! That is a good idea about planning ahead! I have gotten many ideas from that compulsive Cruz prep thread it is awesome!

  4. Back in 2015 when they still made you sign the drink slips, we decided to keep them ALL even though we had the UBP. I wanted to see how much we would have spent and how many we had drank. Total tally for only 5 of the 7 days was $780. Half of those slips were for Mango Meltdowns and Miami Vices :)

We have done that on every cruise. Towards the end of the each day we would tally up how much we would have spent and if it is not what the package would have cost if we brought it we would get more drinks!!!

Our last cruise was in 2015 and we are going on the Escape in 12 days. They don’t make you sign drink slips anymore? How will I add drinks up and do a daily tally??

  5. Okay seriously, it is 1:00 am and it’s the second night that I have been up for hours working on the TripIt itinerary (since the early work had to be revised since the newest dailies differ from the first one I used :( ). But I had that head exploding thing happen to me last Wednesday - the OMG it’s almost two weeks and one of those weekend won’t count because we are leaving then! And since I have done two of those store runs (where you don’t need clothes, God knows you don’t, but they are having those end of the season sales and .... well, maybe you might need something... ;p ).

Oh FYI obsessively preparing peeps - do not try for emoticons in TripIt - was super cute and helpful and then I guess it wigged out and removed any title or text with one in it. Not much run redoing them all over again. Anyone else 1-2 weeks out?!

  6. I’ve heard various stories about good and bad butlers..

    Tell me:

    What ship

    What Butler

    What room

What made it good or bad

Gem 2012 Fernando! He was amazing!!! Always was anticipating everything we needed. One day when I was sick and stayed in the room he came by and brought me soup and left my favorite snacks even though at the time I couldn’t eat them. Then he asked if he could call to check on me because I sent my husband out of suite to go enjoy. He did call and check on me. He was AWESOME!!!

Also we introduced him to his first snowball as there was a nor’easter in New York the day we were leaving and he had never held or seen a snowball!!

Has anyone ever had him? Anyone know if he is still with Norwegian?

  7. Being that I am a detailed planner, I can see where we will be using the Butler a lot more than the Concierge. I already have all of our specialty dinners, shows, excursions, etc. reserved. The only thing we will use the Concierge for is escort off the ship at ports.

My wife has many tasks already planned for the Butler. :')

    What kind of tasks?!!!!

  8. Am I not supposed to respond to people kind enough to take the time to post on the thread I started? Most people complain when the OP doesn’t come back after asking the question. So I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t.

Thank you for posting this question! I too am a LEO wife and I often have to question myself where we are going and can we go there. Many people don’t understand but it is nice and comforting to know know that others think the same things!!! We have have to stick together so don’t listen to the negative answers!! But to answer your question I would definitely ask his dept if they have restrictions or contact the state dept and see if there are travel bans or advisories. What ever you do happy family time and thank you and your husband!!

  9. Hello,

My boyfriend and I are going on a cruise in December for the very first time. We are cruising via NCL on the Epic ship. We booked the Haven penthouse suite and we are very excited to set sail. I did have some questions before. I have been doing a lot of research via blogs, Vlogs and the NCL website. I read ( cannot recall where) that NCL will be calling us/mailing us around 40 days before our trip. Does anyone know if that is true? if so, what will they mail or call us for? I just want to be on the lookout for any mail that comes. also, if you have cruised this ship before ( haven or no haven) if you can recommend anything to do on the ship, let me know.

    thanks!

Hi! You are going to love the aft penthouse, and the HAVEN!!! About 50 days out you get sent a letter with luggage tags and the number for the concierge. You can call the concierge with pre-cruise requests like what pillows you want, what you want in the mini fridge if you want certain snacks etc. I have not been on the Epic but have been on the Breakaway in an aft penthouse suite and the Gen in an Aft owners suite!!

    Happy cruising!!

  10. to answer your question. That was not the stated policy years ago. only restaurants and public room areas were listed , not staterooms. I believe it was 2012 on the Gem.

Policy of course was updated plus who brings wine on board now with an adult beverage plan anyways.

We were on the gem in November of 2012!! We do have the ubp for our trip in October. Didn’t try to bring wine then in 2012 but we did have a great time on that ship. (It was our honeymoon we got married the Friday after sandy). Left that following Wednesday out of New York during a nor’easter. We even were upgraded to the haven aft owners suite!!! ( for a small fee)!!! I am a good negotiator!! At least at that time you talked to some one there was no bidding.

  11. Unfortunately, the only way we have access to as general customers is to do "mock bookings" through the NCL site. Act like you are going to book a room and get to the screen where you can select your room. It will show a maximum of 15 available rooms in you chosen category, so there is no way to know if there are more than that available. As categories sell out, they will revert to GTY and eventually say "Sold Out". On the cruises I have sailed on and tracked inventory for, any "family" rooms sell out the most slowly. But for normal rooms, it always goes from lowest price to highest. So BF sells out, then BE, then BD, then BC, then BB, then BA. So if you book a GTY or sail away late int he game, I suspect you are actually more likely to get a higher category.

    Thanks!
