Actually the "but" joins two independent clauses, so the comma is called for.

To separate independent clauses.

You can use commas to separate*independent clauses that are joined by "and," "but," "for," "or," "nor," "so," or "yet."*For example, this is correct: "My brother is very smart, and I've learned a lot from him."

An independent clause is a sentence that can stand on its own. Here's how to test it: Would the second part of the sentence (following one of those coordinating conjunctions) make a full sentence on its own? If so, add a comma. If it doesn't, leave it.

"Sorry" or "I'm sorry" can stand alone. So can "It drives me crazy and is simply incorrect."

Incidently, since my cabin door most likely will not be "magnetic", I intend to bring Command Strips for my door decor. [emoji41]

I don't have pictures, but we bought some big colorful fish from the party store (they were about $1 each) and we wrote in our cruise dates on them in Sharpie ... for example, Mariner of the Seas XXX, 20XX ... Liberty of the Seas XXX, 20XX. Other people have nicer stuff.

 

Our next cruise will be for a wedding anniversary, and I'm going to make a banner tied up on string.

 

I recommend the putty stuff that teachers use to attach posters to classroom walls. It's about .99 for all you'll need for your whole life, and it'll stick to any door, even if it has a "texture" that makes magnets difficult.

 

Of course, if you're looking to use magnets, you probably have some free pizza magnets on your refrigerator that you'd be willing to sacrifice for the cause.

That's awesome! I decided to order a really cute image from a vendor on Etsy with our Ship Name, Cruise Date and family names. I am having posters made on VistaPrint using that image. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

Now I'm very tempted to have shirts made with the image too! I just don't know if the men in our family will find that lame. ;)

I didn't on our last cruise but I would really like to this time for my husband's family. We surprised his parents with a cruise, and his aunt & uncle are joining us as well. I know it's a little cheesy, but I thought it would be neat to do for them as it is their first cruise.

No doors are " magnetic", they are metal or wood. Magnets will stick to metal doors.

I got a Carnival Email just this morning in regards to my up coming cruise. It was about a change in my itinerary and it did, in fact, include a PDF attachment detailing my new itinerary.

I've seen a few comments here and there saying that Carnival's doors are not magnetic. Are they or aren't they? Any input? I would love to decorate our door so it would be a bummer to prepare only to find out that magnets won't work!

This may sound like a dumb question to some, but there are others who will totally "get it".

For those of you who are used to sleeping with a fan, is there a particular one you can recommend that is small & portable enough to take on a cruise, but also offers enough of a "hum" to help drown out any noises in the halllways, etc?

We just added Cheers package to our cruise. Nothing new on the boarding pass, but I DID get an email confirmation, so you might want to check on that.

I have asked this question before (nearly a year ago) but wanted to make sure that no one recently had run into snafus-

We are taking my in-laws on a cruise from Galveston with stops in Progeso & Cozumel. They are here visiting from the UK. They have their passports obviously, and their ESTA letters. It's my understanding that those will suffice. Has anyone had a different experience?

Thank you to everyone for your responses. It has really put my mind at ease. They are British Citizens, born and lived there all their lives. We have their Passport Info, correct legal names, date of birth and all that sort of thing because we help them book their flights when they come to visit us and they take care of the ESTA themselves. Last visit, they stayed right at the 90 day mark but this time I think it will be 60ish days or so. It looks like we will have everything in order and it was great to hear from those of you who are also Citizens of the UK sharing your personal experiences. Thank you all again!

Thank you for the responses. It truly is a huge help. I'm sorry I did not mention that we are cruising out of Galveston most likely to the Western Carribean.

My inlaws come to see us about once a year or so. They are in their 70s and SUPER active - they run circles around me and my husband! Last year, we surprised them with a trip to Vegas, which was on their "Bucket List" and we couldn't keep up with them. They have expressed an interest in going on a cruise, and would be the life of the party, for sure. I just wish we could bottle whatever it is that keeps them so young at heart! ;)

I should have clarified why I was anticipating problems.My TA called Carnival today because it's a group cruise and of course to clarify a few things. Every time she tried to ask a question about Non-US citizens cruising, she just repeatedly got a canned response from the rep "We can only verify for US Citizens".

We are wanting to plan a surprise group cruise when my inlaws come to visit us from England in the Spring. We will be cruising out of Galveston, most likely to Western Carribean. What kind of hoops am I going to need to jump thru for them to go on this trip? They will of course have their passports, but I'm wondering if anyone else here has had experience cruising with non US Citizens?

When my husband and I cruised on the Carnival Conquest several years ago, he was not, at that time (he now is!) A US Citizen. He had his British Passport and his permanent resident status that allowed him to be here, and there were no issues whatsover. However, his parents will only have their British Passports, so I'm worried if we will even be able to make this happen.
