What's the difference between a shuttle and a taxi? What kind of vehicle is the shuttle is it a specific company?
They are all taxi vans, at least they were this past Saturday when we were there. All different makes of vehicles and they are all in a taxi pickup area that is easily accessible at port. We got off the ship and people were waiting to take you over there, all very friendly and helpful. Freeport gets a bad rap and I'd read so many bad reviews about it but we loved it and it was a million times better then Nassau!

We went to the grand Lucayan on Saturday which we booked thru shoreexcursioneer and it was fantastic! Easy to get a taxi van right at port and very friendly people! The resort and beach were amazing, so beautiful and clean! Also there are people right at the beach to do water sports, my daughters went parasailing and loved it. We professional and fun workers for that too!
I could go on and on but we loved it, perfect day and we'd go back again in a heartbeat!!

Never mind, I'm getting ahead of myself it's 2 weeks lol

Very interested, following to see your review.
One week and we will be in Freeport!!!

iMessage is a text that only works iPhone to IPhone with iMessage turned on in your settings. iMessage uses a small amount of data and will send without cell phone service while on wifi. This is why iMessage works on the social media plan. It will not work with droid phones and will not work with iPhone to droid phones.
Thanks for this! Don't know why I didn't think it would work since I text a friend of mine that lives in Northern Ireland all the time and I'm never charged internationally ;)
-
I keep seeing people saying iMessage will work with the social media package but it doesn't say that on the carnival website. So for texting back home I won't get charged internationally if we have it? I know so dumb to worry about staying connected when on vacation and my husband can't wait to unplug but my 16 year old daughter wants to be able to contact her boyfriend from time to time lol

Sorry for what may be a stupid question here....I too am looking for the best way to communicate onboard this ship as I will be traveling with teenagers. None of us has a Facebook, I'm too old and they are too young (I think Facebook is not cool with the new crop of teenagers) so do we have to sign up with Facebook to use this Facebook messenger? How does it work? Will all of us have to get a Facebook account?? Or can it just use our phone numbers? Would I have to buy a social media plan for everyone $5 a day x number of days on cruise x number of people in my family? Thanks for any help. I only know how to regular text and not Facebook message. Is it instant like iMessage? We all have iPhones. Could we text each other just using iMessage wo getting Facebooks?
Yes you need facebook accounts to use messenger but if you are just looking to text each other on the ship you can get the chat feature on the hub app. I believe it's $5 per device for the whole cruise, not per day. The social media plan is $5 per day but unless you are trying to text someone back home then you won't need it. Hope that helps since I'm a new cruiser and that's what I have found in my own research :)

We got ours a day later! I'm so excited we will be there on the 18th!!!
-
I'm curious about this as well since my teenage daughter want it and using their own money to get it.
-
We've never been there but will be in 2 weeks so the weather is something I think about too. I'm guessing it's very similar to Florida where it can rain pretty much everyday in the summer. I wouldn't worry too much cause the rain never lasts too long and then the sun comes out and it's hotter then hell lol
-
I am wondering too. Watching for your post.
I'll be sure to post all about it when we get home although I don't even want to think about that yet lol
-
There are 4 other ships in port the day we're in Nassau and I thought about doing the free beach/Tiki Bikini Bar, but thought it may be a little crowded. Still pondering!!!!
Let the count down begin!!
Yes it will probably be busy for us too with 4 ships total but we will check it out anyways :)
-
Really leaning toward Grand Lucayan in Freeport.....now to decide for Nassau!!!!
Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Good choice! We are just doing the free beach in Nassau. 2 weeks from today we embark OMG!!!!

where do you buy passed for this hotel?
They can be purchased thru a third party vendor, not shoreexcursioneer I don't think. I remember looking into it but they are very expensive I think around $90 per person maybe? It's all inclusive but it doesn't include the taxi either so we went with the grand Lucayan, not all inclusive but so much cheaper!

It's worth a shot! I can't remember if the public computers had a printer or not, but there were always open computers from what I remember. Have a good time!
Thanks we will have a great time for sure and I hate even thinking about going home lol. But the cheapo airline we are flying charges for everything short or breathing the air in flight so I wanted to avoid giving them any extra money! Yes they charge to print the boarding passes, it's just crazy!!
-
Ugh thanks guys! I'm not bringing a laptop I just wanted to use their computer but it sounds like more of a hassle then it's worth. I can check in on my phone when we dock in Norfolk and I'll guess I just have to print the boarding passes at the airport :(
-
Ok so I know all about the wifi packages for our phones but my question is about using the computers onboard and how much it costs? I want to check in for our flight home and print our boarding passes. Thanks
-
I can let you know how it is when we get back since we will be there right before you :)
-
Thanks - I ended up googling as well and found that there will 5 ships in port when we're there. Debating on Tiki Bikini Bar or Melia while in Nassau! Hopefully Tiki Bikini isn't too busy! How is it getting back to Port? Are taxis hard to get?
Well we've never been to Nassau and this is our first cruise so I can't help with taxi info but from what I have read taxis are very easy to get. I think Junkanoo beach is easily walkable from port so that's what we plan to do.
We are docked from 11am - 10pm so I didn't get a day pass since it's such odd hours. I figure the free beach with the bikini hut and some shopping for my teenage daughters will be a fun day!
-
For Cheers to be cost effective, you need to average about 6-8 drinks a day depending on what you drink, the entire cruise.
That's what I keep hearing so we aren't getting it. My husband and I could each have no problem with that but not for each day of the cruise lol
-
I have passes for the grand lucayan in Freeport booked in two weeks. It seems like a very reputable company and you cancel at anytime. I've seen only great reviews so hopefully they are right!
-
I think this what my hubby and 2 adult children are going to do for the day while in Nassau in 3 weeks. How do you check to see what ships are in port ?
We will be there in a little over 2 weeks and there will be 4 ships in port that day. I just googled cruise port schedules and various websites came up, I checked a few and they all had the same information.

Was on the Sunshine last week and loved the menus. Had fantastic food all week long.
Glad to see some people like it like lol. We will be on the sunshine in 2 weeks and can't wait. We've never cruised before so there's nothing to do compare the food to anyways ;)

Inspiration Sept. 1996. Ports of call we had was St thomas, St. Maarten,
Martinique, Dominica, and Barbados! 27 cruises and my absolute favorite itinerary! We had a blast!:)
Same for us in May 1996! I loved it, Barbados was amazing!!!

I totally understand how you feel since I have a family of 4 plus our daughters went parasailing when we were there but it was money well spent and well worth it! I would rather stay on the ship in Nassau, that was a total dump!
