  1. For seasickness I would suggest Seabands. I wore them during the day on my cruise. We were heading towards Puerto Rico with hurricane Beryl in the vicinity so waters were pretty rough. It was thought that San Juan would be dropped as one of our ports but Beryl was downgraded to a tropical storm and we were able to make it.

I was very seasick on a cruise to Alaska a few years ago so was a bit anxious as to how this cruise would be. Felt a bit queasy at the beginning but after I put the Seabands on, it seemed to work. I had also packed Bonine but didn't need it. Had a wonderful cruise even with two nights of turbulent water and I am now hooked on cruising!

  2. She was not right. I also travel solo and have no problem tipping. Recently went on a cruise with my granddaughter and had a suite and prepaid the gratuities. I did not give extra at the end of the cruise though as I felt my prepaid amount was sufficient. Requested evening service only from my room steward so don't think he was overworked.

  3. I would seriously par this list down. Just off The Magic with my 18 year old granddaughter and took carry on only. We each took a 20 inch spinner bag and a small backpack. Ditch the alarm clock, toilet paper, magnetic clips, over the door organizer, duct tape, extra cord for plugging things in....all unnecessary. Washrooms we used on our land tours were all well stocked and for tourists. Plenty of outlets for charging whatever you have. Lots of storage in room and also in the bathroom so over the door organizer is not needed. Used my ipad or phone as alarm but the room also had a phone and you could request a wake up call.

We had packed plenty of clothes including dressy for the evenings. Enjoy your cruise....if you want to pack all that crap and then pack it all home along with your souvenirs, that's up to you.

  4. I'm on the July 7th sailing too. This is a special cruise for me....as I'm sure it is for others...as I'm taking my 18 year old granddaughter on her first cruise. Very worried that we will get cancelled. Wish they would be updating the status and letting everyone know what to expect.

  5. If the excursions are booked through Carnival, they will just change the dates on the excursions to the correct days you are in port. That is probably after they verify with the excursion operator that they have openings.

    Thanks for your quick reply!

  6. We are sailing on July 7th. on the Magic. If St. Thomas is dropped and our itinerary changes then all the excursions I booked through Carnival will have to be changed. Does anyone know if Carnival just cancels the booked excursions?....if so, when? It looks like people are being notified only a couple of days before sailing. Not sure how this works so any insight would be appreciated. Two sea days at the beginning will give us the chance to enjoy the ship.

  7. This will be my first Carnival cruise and really looking forward to it. Will also be a first travelling with my 18 year old grand daughter which will make it even more special. Totally prepared mentally for any itinerary changes and have also told her that the unexpected may happen. She is excited about her first cruise. After undergoing cancer treatment in 2015, an itinerary change is rather minor. Happy travels everyone!

  8. I really appreciate everyone's responses, they have made me feel a lot more at ease about going on this cruise with my shining bald head. For those that asked, No I did not have to have any radiation but I will mind my P's & Q's with the sun and use lots of sunscreen. I'm not sure that this will be a big excursion trip except for maybe lounging around the beach or a pool in the shade.

Have a wonderful cruise! I went through treatment in 2015 with chemo and radiation. Was on 2 different chemo drugs and ended up totally bald with no eyebrows or lashes. My hair started growing back about six weeks after treatment and by about month 3, I was able to ditch my head coverings. I admire you being able to travel. I had to take a year off from travel as the radiation made be too tired. Took a relaxing, wonderful river cruise in Europe last year and this year have booked an ocean cruise with my granddaughter. All the best to you and all the other survivors battling this dreadful disease.

  9. Since they aren't planning on fixing the propulsion problem until the next dry dock...wonder why they don't adjust the itineraries now instead of p!$$!ng people off??

So very true....I am so totally p....offed and is unlikely I will look at any Princess cruise in the future. The itineraries should be adjusted now and let people know ahead of time. Absolutely rediculous!! Also, I put a sizable amount down on this cruise (paid half upfront for a suite) and now find out I have to wait about 15 days for a refund.

  10. Booked my eastern Caribbean cruise a few days ago and just got an email from my TA saying itinerary was changed from 4 ports to 3 due to propulsion problems with the ship. Turks and Caicos was taken off. Very disappointed with this. Princess offered $50 onboard credit as a goodwill gesture.

Needless to say, I cancelled and will look elsewhere. My cruise was booked for July 2018. Bye bye Princess.

  11. I just booked an Eastern Caribbean cruise for my teenage (18) granddaughter and myself. Booked a mini suite...cabin D618. Haven't been able to find any reviews of this cabin and wondering if anyone on here has stayed there? Any comments would be appreciated.

  12. Thank you so much for posting your thoughts.....very helpful! I'm doing Basel to Amasterdam June 3rd with Avalon and so looking forward to it. Travelling solo so hoping there are a few fellow passengers that are doing likewise....if not, I'm sure I'll still have a wonderful time. Good to hear comments re clothing. Was debating about whether to pack a dress but after reading your comments, will stick with my black dress pants and dressier tops along with a couple of nice scarves to dress things up a bit. Taking a fleece jacket along with my lightweight rain jacket to wear over it if rainy. Have a pair of sketchers for footwear along with my Naot sandals which I know are very good on cobblestones as they were on my feet most of the time when touring Italy a couple of years ago. Thanks again for posting!

  13. I wore sandals at the beginning of my trip but as the time wore on, I needed my "walking shoes" and I am very glad I had

brought them with me. (that was back in 2012). Joy, I wore capri's almost every day on that cruise. Now, when I sailed on

my River cruise (last year), I sailed out of Amsterdam in April~ it was cool/cold out every day and I was in long pants and

long sleeves on a daily basis, along with some type of jacket....jean/or cardigan type sweater.

Italy was very hot when I was there on an escorted land tour....plus 40 was the hottest day. Wore capris and sandals just about every day. Found my sandals were very good for walking on the cobblestones....like Naot brand and find them supportive and comfortable. I always take a pair of runners along when touring as an option to wear if it's a rainy day.

  14. Mushroom,

I will be doing that same itinerary in September on the River Duchess.

I've only taken one river cruise, but I observed in European cities that women don't wear shorts or capris. I didn't bring any, and wouldn't have felt comfortable in them if I had.

    Roz

Sorry...don't agree with you, Roz. Was in Italy in 2013 and Portugal in 2014. Lived in capris and never felt out of place. Saw lots wearing the same attire. Think it's also important to feel comfortable....will be packing capris for my river cruise.

  15. Some non-US carriers, Lufthansa for one, limit the weight of carry-ons. And they frequently weigh those bags.

So true. My husband and I were flying Air Canada with just carry on bags. We were actually in the tunnel, boarding the plane and there was an Air Canada rep with a scale stopping people to weigh their bags. They flagged me....weighed my bag and it was way under. My husband's bag was actually heavier than mine but they didn't weigh his. Found it interesting that they assumed the woman's bag was heavier! I always make sure my bag is well within the requirements.
