Hi, this sounds like so much fun.  Did they take you to a lunch spot or was it mainly stopping at bars?  Their website does not give details on what type of tours they provide.  Also, is it a per person charge or by trike rented?

    Thank you.

  2. That one sentence right there sums this up prefectly. However, I do not share your delightful sentiments toward the op....at least, not completely. The reason I say that is, this thread was started with intent to bash the lifeguard and flame him for throwing a floating mat.

    WTH??!!

At what point did it become so common to blame the responders? These people can't swim, yet they voluntarily put their own lives in jeopardy by floating out into deep water. That was the root of the problem in this case. What happened after is nobody's fault but theirs.

That said, I do commend the op for taking action rather than just standing on the sideline like most people do. But place blame where it belongs, not on the man who had to respond to someone else's stupidity. It reminds me of the people who haul a$$ on the highway and then bash the cops for writing them a speeding ticket.

    You are 100% WROOONNNNGGG!!

I did not start the thread to bash the lifeguard. How dare you say that? So many people on this post trying to belittle and demean others for their own self worth. Calling the people in the water stupid and idiots, for what?

I have read all the posts and have learned a lot from many especially those who were lifeguards but I am not going to have you or anyone else flat out lying about what my intentions were when writing the thread.

  3. Wow. Great photos. If you had a choice would you pick #6 again? That looks like a wonderful spot

Most definitely. It was a great cabana and Franklin the butler was very nice.

We enjoyed the private dock (which we shared with the cabana to the left of us). The cabanas across the beach from us had views of the mountains but not of the ship. It was just gorgeous looking at that beautiful ship from our cabana,

I attached a picture of the cabana to our left. This was also a great option since it was the last one and had an unobstructed view of the ocean and mountains.

  4. I've got an over the water cabana at Nellie's and was hoping someone might have some recent pictures or video's.

Hoping to bribe someone for a more 'private', out of the way, cabana. :D

Does anyone have suggestions on which number cabana might best suit me?

    Thanks in Advance.

We were on the March 23rd sailing of the Liberty, with stops in Labadee and Ocho Rios.

We rented an over the water cabana on Nellie's Beach, cabana #6. It was so worth it. We had fantastic views of the ship and the beach area.

Here are some pictures of the cabana and of the views from the cabana.

  5. Just returned from sailing Liberty this past Saturday. I don't think we had any Nellie's Beach people at the BB buffet. Food was the usual plus shrimp/fish/veggie (peppers and onion) skewers. It was WONDERFULLY quiet with only our ship in port that day. A vast improvement over 3 years ago when we had Enchantment joining Liberty at Labadee and it just felt way too overcrowded.

We were on the same sailing and booked an over the water cabana on Nellie's Beach. We could not book it online but had no problem booking it on board. The cost was $255.75 for over the water and $235 for the cabanas on the beach.

    No upgraded buffet for us.

  6. I understand how it could be a life saving device for 1 person but here we had 3 people using it improperly.

Furthermore, all it took was for one of them to panic to send the others into hysterics. Maybe I didn't mention that they were give several floating mats but the situation was too far gone at this point. All they wanted to do was to get out of the water.

On the lifeguard responsibility, I live on Ft. Lauderdale Beach and have seen the lifeguards rescue people in worse situations than this -- these people were screaming for help, the floating mats are not working - I shouldn't have to tell him to get in the water!

  7. We just got off Liberty of the Seas and did the river tubing down the White River in Ocho Rios. We walked down some steps and then right into the water with our tubes.

It was very beautiful and quite shady. There are certain areas of the river that are quite choppy but most of it was just a nice, calm ride down the river.

  8. Hi all, like many people I take all the great advice, tips and insight given on this board but rarely give back but after our spring break cruise on Liberty of the Seas last week, I feel compelled to write about an event that happened in Labadee.

This was our first cruise as a family of 6. My DH and our 4 children ranging in ages from 9 – 17 were on the 5 day cruise on LOS with stops in Labadee and Ocho Rios.

We stopped in Labadee on the 3rd day of the cruise and had an over the water cabana on Nelly’s Beach rented for the day. While I was in the water lounging on a floating mat I noticed a group of 3 people (2 young ladies and a male in his mid-20’s) on a floating mat, swimming out to the deeper part of the water right before the cordoned off area and you really get in deep, deep water.

One minute they were laughing and within seconds one of the young ladies starts screaming for help. Please note that they are quite a few people around us but at first no one knew if they were playing or if they really needed help, including myself. I looked at them and noticed that she could not swim and was slipping off the floating mat. The guy was telling her to hold on but she was becoming more and more afraid. I asked if they needed help and he said yes, to please help them. I called for help since it was just one of me and 3 of them and a lady right next to them, gave them her floating mat but by this time the young lady that was once screaming for help, was hysterical and had jumped on the guy she was with and he had gone under the water. That’s when I could tell that he couldn’t swim either. The second young lady started screaming for help as well.

Now all 3 are crying out for help and I am making my way out to them while also asking for help. Remember they are others around. I finally made it to them and told them to stand up. YES, they could actually stand and touch bottom (we were on a sand bar but would soon be back in deeper water) but at this point all 3 were beyond hysterical and just wanted out of the water. I asked the young lady who was crying to hold on to the floating mat and ask all 3 of them to kick as we slowly made it back to the dock of our cabana.

I guess that someone finally takes what is happening seriously and the lifeguard shows up and what does he do, he throws them a floating mat. I told him to get his butt (not the word I used) in the water NOW!!

We made it back to my cabana safely and her family walks over – NO THEY CAN’T SWIM EITHER and start fighting with the guy who was out with the two girls on why he took them out to the deep area.

My point to all this is that – If you can’t swim don’t count on the floating mat – This could have ended very badly for these people and their families. If you must be out in the water then make sure to have a very good swimmer with you.

We saw her on board later on and she was quite embarrassed. Her mother said that they would be taking swimming lessons when they got back home. Good idea!

  9. My DH and I were on the Nov. 6th sailing of the Regal - 3 day cruise and we arrived at the port at 11am and were on the ship by 11:20am.

It was the smoothest embarkation ever.

We sailed on the Caribbean Princess in May and arrived close to noon and it was not bad but definitely crowded and it took us over an hour to get on board.

  10. Thank you so much for your post.

We were also on the 3 day inaugural cruise and had a deluxe balcony on the Aloha deck. We really enjoyed seeing the crew of the Love Boat (as well as hearing the ships' horn with the Love Boat theme) and all the little extras on board because of the inauguration festivities.

In regards to the deluxe balcony, we decided we were never going back to a regular balcony. Even though the balconies are still pretty small, we truly enjoyed having the couch as an extra seating area.

We are looking to book a 10 day on the Royal and will take your advise on doing the research to find a bigger balcony.

  11. Thanks for the info.....so if you book a clamshell, i would assume this would count as an excursion and get you off quicker?

No. Clamshells are booked for the day, so it was pretty much get there when you get there and show your ticket and get the clamshell.

Now, one thing about the clamshell. We reserved it online and thought that when we got to Princess Cay, we would have it ready for us but that is not the case. Pretty much it was the same as if we reserved it on the island.

We had to go to the right side of the island because on the left side there were none left. Wasn't too happy about this, especially since we were late getting off the ship but we still had a great time.

Try the banana boat ride if you can - we haven't had that much fun in years - laughed while i was falling off and kept on laughing through the entire ride!

  12. Thank you for the replies.....busy early and busy late....I am still wondering if someone who has been recently can give me an account of how busy when it is busy.....20 minutes?.....90 minutes? Thanks.

My DH and I were on the May 23rd sailing of the CB. It was a 4 day cruise to Princess Cay - pretty much they called it a cruise to nowhere.

Since it was the Memorial Day weekend the ship was packed and when it came time to tender to Princess Cay the wait was 90 minutes. We first had to wait in line to get a slip of paper with a number on it. Then waited (seated) in the dining room. When your number was called it was time to board the tender.

It didn't bother us much because we did not have any excursions to go on and just wanted to spend a nice day on the beach. We did hear that those with excursions have been tendered off the ship earlier.

The lines to tender back to the ship were ridiculously long but we were talking to other people in line (who were complaining about how long this was taking) and within 20 minutes we were on a tender back to the ship.

  13. Someone else earlier in the thread mentioned very strong thunderstorms. High winds would have necessitated the use of a tug to get out of port.

I live 20 minutes from Port Everglades and yesterday we had 3.5" of rain and major flooding throughout areas of Broward and Miami Dade County.

A water spout (tornado over water) was spotted off of Ft. Lauderdale Beach, which is close to Port Everglades.

It was a very wet sail away.
