I missed that the date was updated.  Just submitted for three more trips. 😄

Just booked our cruise on Carnival Legend, sailing May 8, 2022. I would appreciate the fax number where to send my shareholder information. Thank you in advance.

  3. For the last several years we have used First Rate Insurance as our travel insurance of choice. All we do is cruises and I’ve never read anything in the fine print which excludes cruise insurance.
They are currently offering free Covid insurance.

First Rate Insurance can be reached at ibeaudoin@firstrateinsurance.com

Ask for Isabelle. She is very knowledgeable and will send you a very easy questionnare to fill which determines the insurance premium. This insurance can also be cancelled for a full refund up to the day before you travel.

  4. Mine are held within my TFSA,s.  Whenever I need a copy I just ask my bank representative to print out a sheet with the bank’s letterhead showing my 100 Carnival shares along with the current date. It also shows my account no., (which I black out), and my address.

In one case with Princess they accepted my statement 14 months before the cruise!  Holland America prefers a statement closer to 6 months or less.

Your statement can be photocopied and used on more cruises during the year. The statements are for the current year, but in most of my cases I have sent them in one year for a cruise the following year without a problem.

People are breaking quarantine without realizing it because testing in the US is lagging so badly, and it is transmissable w/o any symptoms. Completely opposite situation in S Korea where they just did massive testing.

Yes some people are being irresponsible, but no one can be blamed for being a spreader if they have no symptoms and no test results showing they do.

Also, a third Princess ship is being held on a trip thru the Panama Canal. Because two crew were transferred to that one from the other affected Princess ship. Moving crew around from an affected ship to another is an oblivious move on the part of the cruise line. https://www.aol.com/article/news/2020/03/09/a-third-princess-cruise-ship-kept-at-sea-pending-virus-tests/23944990/

I've wondered about why crew would be moving from ship to ship. On cruises where I have spoken with crew they are on board until their contract ends at which time they go home for a break. Upon returning they can be assigned to another ship. IMO I am thinking that the "crew" which are moving from ship to ship may actually be some of the entertainment staff which are brought on board for several nights and then move to another ship.

I normally book myself and transfer, or book on board (auto transfer) to my TA.

But we were looking for a specific cruise timing, that was not yet out.  So told the TA what we wanted, and the day the bookings for that  timeframe went live, she booked it.  They did not go live for the general public for a few days.

Same on a sale price.  I would have had to stay up to midnight to book, she booked it for me. 😄

It's great having a good reliable TA you can count on.

I use a PCC on Holland America (our most frequent line), am using a PVP on Princess (have re-fared SIX times!), and handled my own booking last year on our only RCI so far. I could NOT figure out if they even have the equivalent of PCC/PVP! Also with their dynamic pricing I once re-fared myself three times in one afternoon/evening including after any travel agent would have been out of the office and unavailable.

One thing I am encountering this year on HAL is gross failure to show all available cabins on-line! I cannot figure out why they are doing this. So for the two bookings I have outstanding, I made a list of acceptable cabins and, with the deckplan in front of me, had my PCC look up and confirm availability then book. For one cruise way out in 2021, even SHE had to call "inventory" to confirm. Cabin choice is very important to me!

I too am very particular about the location of my cabin. I prefer mid ship near the elevators and on the Upper Promenade deck.

Failing mid ship I will opt for a location close to the rear elevators.

I am also finding Holland America's web site to be much less user friendly than it was a few years ago. It used to be quite easy to maneuver around and check for available cabins but not so much now. I will usually have multiple web sites and travel agencies open just to see which cabins are available. Once I select the must suitable then I will immediately call HAL and make my booking.

It used to be we had until final payment to transfer the booking to my local TA but this has just changed with HAL. They now (same as Princess, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity) require the booking to be made no later than 60 days after the initial booking with HAL. Found this out last week for an Alaska cruise I had booked back in June, 2019. I was transferring a Princess cruise for this February so I decided to do both at the same time, thinking I had lots of time with my Alaska Sept booking. HAL informed my TA of their recent changes. My TA had the HAL agent lock in my cabin, then cancelled my booking and then re-booked it and transferred it to her. A bit more work but well worth it as the TA agency offered many shipboard perks and I still retained my cabin.

BTW, sorry I don't know the meaning of your terms PCC and PVP. Thanks

I use a TA, but may book myself or have her book.

She does check for, and apply price drops.  And has been very helpful in everything I have asked.

And I get some OBC based on the final fare.

If you know what you want, other than OBC, what benefit would you get from using one?

    Up to you.

In Ontario we have a government back traveller's insurance which compensates us in case the TA agency goes out of business, and also offers complaint resolutions, among other things.

  9. Princess also requires bookings made through them to be transferred to your TA within 60 days.

Today I was transferring two Holland America cruises, which I had booked directly with HAL, to my TA. Apparently Holland America has just introduced this same 60 day transfer policy. I was OK with one which I booked recently but the other was booked in June and was past the 60 days. My TA spoke with the HAL agent and they were able to freeze my cabin and then cancelled my June booking and re-booked it with today's date with the TA now gaining control of the booking. In doing so I will now receive the TA's agency's perks. I always book directly with the cruise lines so I can select and quickly reserve my cabin once I select the one I want. If I didn't care about cabin location and type I would just use the TA. I prefer my method. It works for us.

I heard of another case lately where Celebrity "added a perk"  I suspect that may be what happened here, adding the $300 OBC perk.  In any event nice for the OP as they don't generally do anything as they don't have to.

Sorry, not up on some of the short forms. What does OP refer to?

Thanks for confirming this is your first cruise with X. It’s not at all the norm, as Kevevenpar quoted above, to get any OBC after FP if your cruise drops in price.

We have cruised with many different cruise lines but mostly Holland America and Princess. These two cruise lines seem to be much more flexible in offering upgrades, or OBC after FP.

And that’s why X’s tag line should be ‘consistently inconsistent’ and not ‘Modern Luxury’ - more realistic 🙄 😃.

Have X honoured this on any of your previous X cruises: OBC after a price drop after FP?

After 32 cruises this is the first time on Celebrity. We just asked our TA to inquire on our behalf as a result of reading other CC members having some success after FP.

  13. I agree. I would also take HMC over Freeport or Nassau. We have been on HMC with two HAL ships and it was busy but still lots of room. Had no problems finding a spot to sit. We tend to walk down the beach and sit near the rentals where there is shade from the trees on the edge of the beach in front of the rentals. Great spot if you want shade and very close to the shipwreck bar.

  14. I enjoy PC over Holland America's private island. It would have been nice to use the wifi on the island should we wanted to do so with their last upgrade on PC. We always get off the ship at the private islands, but only stay for 3 hrs and return to the ship early.

  15. Thanks Thrak for the tip. We will be on the CB Feb. 9 doing the Circle Caribbean. Looking forward to it and appreciate the tip. Last time on the CB was before it went in for dry dock and updated to World Fresh Market in the buffet as well as adding the new restaurants.

It would be valid only for the cruise it was purchased for and specialty coffees and brewed coffee would be considered the same for purposes of the "card."

    The T&C state ...

    • The package includes the pre-purchase of a specified number of specialty coffees (numbers vary by itinerary) during the voyage of purchase, as well as complimentary brewed coffee and hot chocolate. so it appears the brewed coffee and hot chocolate will still be free.
