  1. Sailing out of Seattle to Alaska in August. Wondering about state taxes that are sometimes charged on alcohol until the ship is out far enough into waters? Or does this only apply more for the Caribbean cruises? I know out of Florida on the Escape until we were out a certain distance, the state tax would apply

We took this cruise last year, and yes, they do charge sales/use tax on the pre-embarkation drinks while in port. I just looked up the tax rate for August, the rate will be 10.1%. I think that the highest rate in our state! But the view will be amazing. Have a wonderful time!

  2. Gray review! We board very soon so it is great to rad reviews of the Pearl!

Omg I realllllllllly hope Bruno does not board the Pearl before we do on March 25. We had the absolute worst experience with him.

I agree! Did not have a good experience at all with him in the Epic last year!!! Please stay off the Pearl!

  3. We just booked a non-Haven 2 bedroom family on the Pearl, our favorite ship, for our Cruise to Alaska in June. Our PCC wasn’t very helpful in explaining the difference between the non-Haven 2 bdrm and the Haven 2 brdm other than the Haven “has a private sun deck”. Really! Does anyone have any info they can share. Butler/Concierge, private dinning... etc. for the non-suite 2 bdrm suite. Thank you for any info you may have.

  4. We found out on our cruise to Alaska on the Pearl that the entire month of August is considered "vacation" month for several Asian countries, so we had a substantial amount of "kids/teenagers on our cruise, about 900 according the ships staff and it creates quite a different experience. I'm all for kids having fun, but the blatant disrespect and lack of consideration and manners was appalling! We're going back this year, but in June/July to avoid this experience again.

  5. We were on her last summer, and though there wasn't a dedicated candy store in the Trade Routes Boutique, there were a couple of the stores did sell candy bars and snack foods. Personally, it would better to bring a small stash on board due to the limited selection. Hope this helps.

  6. Our pcc, who we had been using for many years, "left" abruptly -0right after we book our cruise lady year, the pcc that got her account, totally screwed up our reservation, we called the 800 and they fixed the issue. Since then, we found an amazing pcc to book our cruise for next summer!

  7. As the wife of a US Coast. Guard Officer, I asked him. He said that once the HARBOR PILOT takes control, until either completely berthed or free to sail the HARBOR PILOT is liable for the actions of the ship... UNLESS there is an electrical or mechanical failure that because of said failure the ship had a collision. Then the shipping company (cruise line) is liable. Once the HARBOR PILOT takes the "control" of the vessel, the Maritime Captain relinquishes his command of the vessel.
