  1. Stress is a wonderful thing! Just when we thought we had it all figured out it rears its ugly head. We have an 11:30 am flight out of HNL bound for the east coast. We thought we were fine but our airline changed the itinerary and backed up the time of our flight. What is the max time to be off the POA and at the airport. Any suggestion would be most helpful!

    Thank you.:confused::confused:

  2. According to Rep Gabbard from Hawaii, NCL will be returning back to the big Island as early as next week. The Rep said today in an interview on Cavuto that the volcano is impacting less than 1 percent of the Island and the island economy is suffering because of the lack of tourism, thus making it a two fold disaster.

  3. Just got this from BOH.

Big Island Cancelled Indefinitely | Pride of America Update

Our favorite cruise ship has just changed directions again and is indefinitely cancelling plans for weekly stops at both Kona and Hilo on the Big Island. The Pride of America update is as a result of “uncertain conditions resulting from volcanic activity” on the southern tip of the Big Island. The Hawaii-based, 2,138 passenger Pride of America is the only ship that provides regular weekly trips exclusively within the Hawaiian Islands.

This is very unfortunate news for visitors and especially for the businesses on the Big Island. We hope that the Pride of America Big Island stops will resume very soon. On the bright side, you’ll now have the ship as an overnight stay in Honolulu. It also opened up a second port on Maui. We’ve enjoyed the views from Lahaina when docked there previously and you will too.

How long this new itinerary will be in place is unsure. When we checked the NCL website today, we saw Big Island stops resuming on August 4. Our suggestion is to call NCL if you are currently booked or plan to sail with them this year.

    :(

  4. Just bought our tickets to Hawaii for a POA cruise. We have not flown sice 2004 so it should be an experience in more ways than one. We will be arriving in Newark for our connection at terminal "C", but our connecting flight leaves from Terminal "A". I heard that they operate a shuttle bus from terminal "C" to terminal "A" where you don't have to go through TSA a second time. Does anyone have any information you could share?

  5. My wife and I will be cruising on the POA next year. We have been on several cruises to Bermuda and if memory serves me right the second night of the cruise is dress up night. Is it more casual on the POA or should she pack a dress and heels and I, a Jacket and tie. I think it is more casual, (but not tee shirt casual). Dress slacks and blouse for her, and khaki's and polo's for me.

  6. We have a trip to Hawaii on NCL next year planned. Less and less banks these days are selling Travelers Checks, and less and less merchants except them. We don't like to carry a lot of cash with us, but sometimes some small transactions like small purchases of quick convenience items and tips are easier done with cash. Are pre-paid Visa, American Express or Mastercards worth it to get cash? We really don't want to travel with Our bank issued debit cards. Any suggestions would be welcome.

  7. My wife and I will be cruising on the POA next year. We received an email stating that NCL is increasing their gratuities as of April 1st for the whole cruise line. We pre paid ours when we booked keeping in mind that so far out the charge would only increase. So therefore we are locked in at the lower price. Because it is Hawaii they do not offer the free UBP like on our Bermuda cruise. That would have been a no brainer. What they do offer are "Free Shore Excursion Credits". Has anyone ever used this offer? Does anyone know how much of a credit do they offer, and what are the excursions that are offered? Some of the tours for PH are free if you get there early, but we're not sure about the other Islands. Would we be better off to do the specialty dining offer? We really don't want to get caught up in a bait & switch.

  8. My wife and I have booked an NCL Cruise around Hawaii for 2018, and we are doing the leg work Ourselves. I have found that we can book our rt/airfare, hotel, and ground transportation at a better price than what is offered by T/A's. Does anyone have any Ideas on how to go about getting this once in a lifetime trip insured.

    Thanks:cool:

  9. It was done during the Dry Dock in May 2016. What gets us, on Our cruise to Bermuda last October everyone hated it. NCL actually paid someone to do that. Another bone headed idea was to take the piano and shove it in the back corner of Gatsby's out of view from the staircase and the upper deck of deck 7. The poor guy got shoved between the access door and the bar trash.

  10. If you have the UBP or purchase a cocktail, soda, or water in a bottle, while in port, and your in a port that taxes purchases, or has bottle bill where does the money go? Especially, the money from the bottle bill. That money has to be turned over to the state. Who runs the clearing house to see that the states get their monies?

  11. We are booked on quite a few NCL cruises, but have NOT received any email notification about this change in policy.

What is interesting is that we are still in a time period where we could cancel all of our reservations withOUT penalty.

It appears that NCL is *only* notifying passengers once their cancellation penalties are already in place.

If this is correct, then that is *really* sleazy.

Has ANYONE who is NOT yet within any penalty for cancelling received a communication directly from NCL about this new policy?

    ???

We are in the same position. It will be real interesting to see when we get Our e-mail. We are coming up on final payment. My question is if NCL operates its headquarters out of Miami, why are they not held to Florida (or US) consumer fraud laws. I don't like the fact that "They" can change their horses in mid stream. If you put money down on a cruise from the point that a down payment was (even a future cruise credit) paid, you entered in to a contract for what was listed at the time, not on a whim. This applies to both sides. It would be different if NCL had to change its itinerary for ship or passenger safety. That is spelled out before hand.

  12. :mad:DYou nickel and Dime'n again??? Time to move on. Nine trips on NCL to the Bahamas and Bermuda in 8 years? Champagne welcome on board, Gone, Chocolate Buffet, Gone, Lobster, gone. Now your telling me I can't bring my Diet Gosling's Ginger Beer on board, and my wife can't bring water?? The straw that broke the Camels Back. All the little thing's that made a big difference, Gone. All the extra money your saving I would like to see it put into hiring certified Life guards. Hello MSC. :D

  13. Sounds good to us too. If you could find out for us if Ariel is still playing the piano at Gatsby's. We enjoyed him on Our past cruises. Any other types of onboard entertainment would be great to know also. Thanks and enjoy your cruise.
