  1. I was thinking about all of the ships I've sailed on that have changed ownership and now sail under a new name and then I did some research on ships I've been on that no longer even exist. Here goes...

    Emerald Seas - Scrapped

    Mardi Gras - Scrapped

    Festival - Scrapped

    Regent Sea - Sank

    Regent Star - Scrapped

    Seabreeze - Sank

    Norway - Scrapped

    Anyone else?

    From Miami in the 60’s:
    SS Florida
    Yarmouth
    Yarmouth-Castle
    Bahama Star
    Carla-C

  2. My first cruise was on the Bahama Star back in May, 1964. My best friend and I drove from Durham, NC to Miami. Dad had relatives in Miami so I looked up one of his cousins and we "crashed" at their house. He took us on a auto tour of Miami Beach. He told us the Bahama Star was a bit antiquated. Our cabin was several decks below next to the engine room. The bathroom was down the hall. Reminded me of my collage dorm.

There were 3 ships that sailed together to Nassau. One of those ships burned at sea and the Bahama star rescued the passengers. Not sure if it was in 1965or later.

This started my addiction to cruising and we Cruising again in May, 2015 out of Port Canaveral.

    Hi,
I remember taking a 4 day Bahamas cruise with my mom and her girlfriend at work around the time of 1965. I was only 10 years old at the time.
The ship was the Yarmouth Castle.
I remember it was an older ship with lots of wood paneling and a noisy engine making a grinding noise as our cabin was aft.
We must have been one of the last passengers to cruise on that ship before it caught fire in 1965.
The very strange thing about this is that all the burn victims that were air lifted to Jackson Memorial hospital in Miami overwhelmed the facility at that time for Burn victims.
This was the beginning of the need for a Burn Center at Jackson. It was founded by Dr. Gillian Ward in 1965.
I would later work for that burn center as their computer administrator in 1994-2001.

  3. Hello,

I'm sailing on Celebrity Equinox TA Barcelona-Ft.Lauderdale arriving in Port Everglades 11/9/15

Can anyone tell me what the expected time it will take to disembark the ship and process through immigration/customs at Port Everglades? I'm trying to schedule my flight out of FLL home.

Also, does anyone have experience with cabs at Port Everglades? Does it take a long time in the queue for cabs?

Any suggestions or tips is appreciated!

    Thank you

  4. Hi Joe,

Nice to meet you. Felix and I just moved from Hollywood FL to NC. We were married last October and have been together 10 years. I arrive in Barcelona on 10/26. Using my Hilton points and staying at the Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona.

Thought I would tour the city before the cruise.

Did you guys purchase the premium drink package? I did the math. 5 drinks a day would pay for it. I like Martini's so maybe a good idea?

Looking forward to meeting you guys

    Jeff

  5. Greetings to all. My name is Jeff. This cruise is something I have dreamed of and planned for a very long time. Unfortunately, I will be on the cruise alone. My partner gets seasick and two weeks at sea is more than he is willing to endure. As I will be alone on this trip I would very much like to meet some friends to tour and dine with. I am a medical IT specialist. I love 30s, 40s and 50s films and watch TCM religiously. I also have a fascination with disaster films of the modern era. So, feel free to introduce yourself. I look forward to making your acquaintance.
