  1. I'll switch to United.

Sent from my SM-T820 using Forums mobile app

    Not much different...

Have independently booked flights for my next cruise with American (non-stop) on the outbound and United connecting for the return.

American Airlines changed schedule and equipment but I got an email directly from them (even though BA booked the tickets as a miles redemption) allowing me to change flights or cancel if necessary. Took 5 minutes to sort out because I had to reselect seats.

A few weeks ago I just happened to check my United flights for the return journey to confirm some times and lo and behold a big message popped up saying everything had been changed and I must accept the changes to continue. There was also the option to call them, but I wasn't going to get anywhere online.

So, no email from United, no other options but to accept a 4 hour layover (Vs 1 hour) and arrive home much later than anticipated.

It's not always greener on the other side.

  2. Which is not to say that it was definitely your cabin attendant who was scheduled to deliver them on the day your delivery was missed... They do get time off with other crew members from the hotel staff providing relief coverage during those periods...

Either way, whoever was responsible for delivering the canapés that day apparently failed to do so... Whom to assign blame for that is another issue.

As a listed perk, no matter how poor the perk actually is, it's still a failure to deliver on a product for which a premium was paid. If it's an issue, then in my mind it should be fed back to the company through the appropriate channels.

  3. My Husband and I will be celebrating our honeymoon on that cruise, We are both in our early to mid 30s. Come check out the roll-call. Sabres Doc has even started creating an overview list of where everyone's from: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=55532497&postcount=152

Can't really say much about anytime dining. On my previous (and first) cruise we had assigned seating, this time we are doing select dining though. Given the times that the ship is in port in Aruba and Curaçao we thought it was the better option.

  4. First thanks Lloyd555 for all your outstanding photos of the interior framing of the ship. Its have been reported on our local television network some parts of Paris is flooded. Is this true Lloyd or is it fake news?.

    It's true

However, Saint-Nazaire (where the Edge is being built) is also 235 miles / 378 km from Paris on the coast in the Loire estuary, whereas Paris is inland, and it's the river Seine that's flooding.

  5. Captain Alex will be moving to Millennium around mid January replacing captain Leo who will move back to Eclipse. Captain Kate will move to Equinox after her vacation. Transfers are never certain until they have been spotted on board.

Confirmed (I suppose unofficially) by Captain Alex on Instagram that he will be sailing Millennium with a start date of January 7. No word on social media yet by Captain Kate, or who Captain Alex' replacement will be.

  6. Unfortunate, but not Celebrity's fault (nor their obligation, IMO, to inform you). As with any travel to a foreign country the onus is on the traveller and not the carrier to inform themselves of the visa requirements and obligations based on their own circumstances. Best to check (if you are British Citizens) with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice for all countries you intend on visiting, and then again with the embassies/consulates before making any plans.

Hope it hasn't put a dampener on your holiday.

  7. Just loaded it on both my iPhone and Samsung s7 and it works good for our Dec 9 sailing of the Equinox. It looks like it is only set up for the Equinox at this point and it only showed 3 sailings. It says when you board Equinox use the app for free via Celebrity Wifi.

I, too, am booked on the equinox (but not till Oct. 2018) but I can't even get the Android app to recognize that my phone is connected to the internet, let alone log in. The app truly is an embarrassment.

  8. There is also a difference in propulsion system. Infinity is a Gas Turbine Ship and Reflection Diesel. One of the main characteristics of GTS is that it is efficient when operating at higher speeds. Don't know the specifics, but infinity might very well be cheaper to run when compared to Reflection for the journey; so probably a combination of factors which has determined this scheduling choice.

  9. To answer some of your questions:

    1) The Martini menu is largely free (one or two over the limit) on the premium package but expect to pay a supplement for all martinis if you have the classic package (around $3 + 18%).

    2) The pool in the solarium is free to use - though I believe it is adults only still - and has the Thelassotherapy jets. This isn't my video, but here you can see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiDLcNUVIUM. It is part of the solarium. If you are staying in Aqua Class you will have complimentary access to the Persian Gardens, but I do believe that the change rooms have dry saunas which can be used free by all guests though I'm not able to recall this with certainty.

3&4, sorry, I don't have an answer for these questions, though for 4 I believe you can board at that time. Someone else may have to confirm.

  10. That's usually the reason and I can give you an example on the Bermuda run, Celebrity used to run two ships out of NYC to Bermuda. The ships would take one day at sea to get to Bermuda and dock there for four days. Now they take two days to arrive in Bermuda due to dock availability, ships are probably faster but that's the reality of it.

Perhaps a little off-topic, but the Horizon and Zenith were a lot smaller, and could dock in Hamilton and St. George's, in addition to Dockyard, so there was some flexibility and the ships would often visit all or at least two of the docks on their trips to Bermuda (freeing up the other). This is back in the days when NCL would run the Windward and Leeward to the island, and RC had Song of America.

With the current vessel size, the only opportunity to dock in Bermuda is Dockyard so yes, port availability is the issue there. In a pinch, vessels will use an anchorage, but this is very rare for the island. All the contract ships for 2017 (NCL Breakaway (23 visits), Dawn (22 visits); RCI Grandeur (17 vistis), Anthem (20 visits); X Summit (18 visits) could only dock at Dockyard. RCI did run 4-night itineraries (with no overnight in Bermuda) out of NYC with Anthem, IIRC.

  11. I think you may be confusing yourself. Both people in a cabin have to have a package but if you both already have classic and only one wants to upgrade that is perfectly okay.

    Not confused.

Boarded the ship with the classic drink package as part of a go-better promotion (or 123-go, can't remember) where we had chosen 2 (classic drink & $150 credit each).

Wanted to upgrade my package only to premium but was told that both of us needed to upgrade so we both ended up with premium. Not regretting the decision but seems we were misinformed.

  12. Yes, it is permitted that only one of you can upgrade. No problem.

Really? Is this a change, or was I misinformed on the Summit (albeit almost 2 years ago now)? It was impossible then to only upgrade one person in the same stateroom and we were told that everyone in the stateroom had to have the same package so we were charged 2 upgrade fees.

  13. Is this something you've done before on a cruise ship?

If not, I don't think this is the time to start.

And if so, I don't think this is the time to continue doing it.

I, too, think it will be greatly frowned upon as you are tampering with the ship's plumbing system.

Also a thing to keep in mind, a US-bought showerhead may not fit with the plumbing on a European-built ship.

  14. Yes, the major cruise lines are covered by the ADA.

    Interesting.

I did some more reading and found the Spector v. Norwegian Cruise Line Ltd.* judgement which deals with the Title III elements of the ADA¶ and their applicability to Cruise Lines. Interesting read and despite the judgement still leaves us some very interesting legal quirks. Ultimately, the court of appeals decision (siding with the cruise lines) was reversed and there are obligations which can be imposed on lines with regard to the ADA.

However, I think there is a lot open for interpretation still and we cannot make a blanket statement that the ADA applies in full and without question. I am not aware of any other jurisprudence dealing with these issues.

    * Spector v. Norwegian Cruise Line Ltd. 545 U.S. 119 (2005)

    ¶ Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), 104 Stat. 353, 42 U. S. C. § 12181 et seq.
