  1. Anyone taken this through RC ? Thinking of this instead of the all inclusive that cost more. Is the cost of drinks and food high

My mother and I took this one thru Royal last Nov. We did not enjoy it. It is only a short bus ride away. The beach was a crushing disappointment. There is a roped off area for "swimming" - wading really. The area is extremely shallow - think thigh deep at the deepest. The region beyond the ropes is rock and sea urchins and whatnot.

On the plus side, the bus drive and much of the staff were very fun and/or pleasant. Had a great discussion with the young woman working at the rum counter while waiting for the next bus back to port. There are plenty of beach loungers a decent numbers of which are in the shade.

The included buffet lunch was OK. Not great. Not bad, but OK. (Some chicken - probably billed as "Jerk Chicken" but not really. Potato Salad, ummm hot dogs (I think?) A couple of veg. Watermelon. Little cakes. Lemonade and Punch. There is the option to purchase other things a la carte. There is good listing of included beverages from the bar (adult and soft). Off that list is an addition purchase.

    Personal opinion,

Not worth the cost Royal is charging. Not worth the cab fare to do it outside of Royal.

  2. Curses, foiled again! Nice thought while it lasted. Guess, I'll have to order room service coffee if I want Balcony PJ time in morning.

    Thanks for the update, Bob.

  3. Greeting All,

Silly question that I did not find an answer to on recent searches. What kind of coffee maker is in the Junior Suites on Grandeur? In a review I read recently someone was complaining about the coffee in the room. If its K-cup machine, I'll just pack a box of my preferred liquid awake.

I am splurging on my 2019 Cruise. Booked solo in a jr suite! Cost about about what taking my Mother 5N on Indy in an aft corner balcony this past Nov, so not too bad. (but about 3X my Anthem 5N Studio Balcony this Sept/Oct. Ah well, think of all the room!)

  4. I just booked 2night PreCruise late November at the Best Western Oceanside Inn for about $150/night.

Only a block from the beach, don't have to cross the road. Near water taxi. Shuttle/Trolley to shopping is across the street.

    Happy Travels!

  5. The Viking serenade used to be a ferry between oslo and Copenhagen, belonging to DFDS Seaways, a 16 hour ferry route.

I was very surprised to see this ferry becoming a cruiseship in California, - it was not in a cruiseship shape when it left Scandianvia, but i guess it was refurbished, and the car-deck was re-build to other purposes.

She was a lovely lady when we were in her in 1999 - Just a short 3 night LA to Ensenda. We enjoyed her a lot more than Carnival's Ecstasy the year before, though met some really good folk on that Carnival ship.

  6. I've also heard of putting a few drops of dish detergent on a few folded paper towels at home and bringing that in a ziplock bag. Folds flat. I'm going to try that next time.

I got that tip from someone on a DCL board before our last cruise. Made the Kitchen smell lovely while they were drying. Still have a baggy with a half dozen soap infused paper towel sheets to bring on Anthem this Sept.:)

  7. Hello All!

I posted awhile back about booking a hotel in Newark (thanks for the input) and have made the decision of:

Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Newark Airport, Elizabeth

Arriving in Newark Wednesday January 13, 2016 - staying 2 nights

Boarding Anthem of the Seas on January 15

I have been reading all the posts but am just hoping for clarification on the best way of getting from the hotel to the pier. There are just two of us, but we will have large suitcases, so i am not sure multiple transit boardings would work...but i guess it all comes down to cost :)

For sightseeing I am hoping to see the statue of liberty.

Any suggestions on transit to the location from our hotel if i purchase tickets off the website?

Any suggestions for other sites that would not be too complicated to get to?

    Thanks very much in advance

    Happy Cruising!

    Brenna

Forgive me if this has been mentioned multiple times already, I'm still reading thru all the messages here. :) But have you looked at the Embassy Suites Newark Airport ? Looks like they have a park and cruise deal with a hotel-port shuttle. I think they have an airport shuttle as well

I've been looking for a post cruise hotel for my Sept 3, 2016 Anthem 5n cruise (yah, I know it early, but I'm just SO excited! (and obsessed :D). Still figuring it the travel what-its. Is it better/cheaper/easier to drive or fly or Amtrak from Southern, NH/Boston? I'm hoping to stay a day after and do the tourist thing/look up where the G-Grandparents came in at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Ah, well, still loads of time for planning.

    Smiles,

    :) VG
