Oh cool. My nephew starts WOCS and then flight school at Ft Rucker next June. He wants to fly Blackhawks too.

So, at the port in San Juan, are there shops around the port to get souvenirs like most places? In a couple of weeks we thought we would just get off the ship and buy a couple of things and then head back to the pool or solarium.

I am at Ft. Rucker! SMALL WORLD!

  2. We were just there yesterday, Beautiful beach, amazing food, good drinks and very good service. The sea grass was not too bad, staff keep the beach very clean. Water was brown but sitting in a floaty chair with a margarita was still a great day!:D

Do you have any pics? I am counting down the days until I go (76 days) and I am living vicariously through these reviews.

If you want any recommendations for the ports on things to do, let me know. In Cozumel we did a private sailing/snorkeling charter on a 45ft sailboat that was amazing. They only take max 10 people but we were the only ones booked so we had it to ourselves and the price was cheap! Definitely the way to go over the huge crowds on the ship booked excursion.

Have an amazing time...even in your D5 ;).

Oh! How did you book the charter in Cozumel?!?

  4. Next time I think everyone needs to know the exact date of the sailng and ship and the category you booked and what you paid. Then we all can advise you better when someone offers you a upgrade to a different category cabin to decide if it was worth it or not.

To many unknowns when you first asked the question. Every week is different when it comes to prices.

Great point! Thanks for the advice!!! This newbie needs all the help she can get. 😊

  5. There is no "kitchenette" in a JS. There is a larger bathroom, room and a walk-in closet. Gratuities are the same as for your balcony cabin, not higher. For $500 total I would do it, as, yes, the balcony cabins are pretty small on that class ship. We always cruise in a JS now after trying larger suites and many balconies.

The balcony is key for us. We plan to sit out there a lot. Thanks!!!

  6. Before everyone says, "This has already been answered..." I have searched the forums for hours and still have this question. Promise I did the work before I started a new thread. ;)

We are booked on the Allure for December. We have only done ocean view on smaller ships, but booked balcony for our first time on this class for our 10th anniversary trip. We were offered an upgrade to JS yesterday for $500. Is it worth it? We plan to get a drink package, as well. I do like the idea of the larger balcony with lounge chairs and an overall larger room, but I have no experience with this big of a boat and roomers that are nicer than interior on tiny ships. :p

    I appreciate the help!
