  1. Do your diving in another port. It is a shore dive with a long surface swim, and the max depth is only around 35 ft. You would be much better off snorkeling or freediving at Coco Cay.

To the left of the big rock it drops to about 25-30 ft. You might see 2 Eagle Ray in that area. I have also seen an eel hiding in the rocks over there. To the right of the big rock, out by the floating dock is the sunken plane. The lifeguard will throw dog food in the water to get the fish to swarm the area.

  2. The snorkeling excursion is done from the beach. You're paying for gear rental and an orientation lecture. I've heard if you bring your own gear, they require you to rent the safety vest. Haven't been since 2006, but I don't think it's changed.

as of last may snorkel vest were still required, and could be rented for $6 if you didn't need any other gear. You can get by without a vest if you snorkel on the opposite side of the island, as there are very few people in that area.

  3. Your pictures are great! What type of camera did you use? My underwater pictures never turn out as vivid as your's!!!! Thanks for sharing them!

I used an underwater film camera that I picked up from a local dive shop for about $30 along with a close-up flash blocking attachment for about $5. The camera is called SnapSights Sports Flash, and I was shooting 800 speed film.

  4. Snorkeling in Coco Cay is very good and I am looking forward to my trip back there in may. The reason there isn't much coral an the shallow areas is because of all the people that kick/stand on it, and have killed it off... But if you swim out to the other side (left side) of the big rock out passed the rock it drops off to about 25 ft and there is some very nice coral out there. You will have to deflate your snorkel vest to even have a chance of swimming down there, but it is well worth checking out because most people will not go that far out in the water... In fact the lifeguards told us twice to come in closer.

Here are some pictures I took with my underwater camera. I ran out of film so there aren't very many pics, but they turned out nice. Some are from my dive in Nassau and the others are from Snorkeling in CoCo Cay- http://www.mydivebook.com/modules.php?name=Gallery&action=images&album_id=75

Also, a tip for all you cheap people (like myself); Bring your own mask, snorkel, and fins. Then instead of renting the required snorkeling vests, ask someone that is walking up to return theirs if you can have it and return it for them when you are done.

    :D
