  1. We were upgraded from a DV6 to a DV2 prior to embarkation, and the only difference I could tell from the materials we received was that we were center, deck 7 instead of near the rear, deck 3. After living on the ship, I am very happy we were moved from deck 3 to 7, just based on noise level and view.

  2. While on Viking Star last month, for the Christmas Cruise, there was certainly a younger demographic than what I expected. There were many families traveling with their adult children. I am 28 and, while younger than the majority of travelers, didn't feel "too young" a single time, and I certainly wasn't the youngest.

I really enjoyed the age demographic on the ship! Additionally, there were only one or two instances during excursions that I felt like I wished the pace to hurry up. That being said, it wasn't even enough to think about having an actual complaint.

If you're on the fence about choosing a cruise because you're worried about being too young, DON'T! You won't regret it!

  3. We'll be on the Star December 22, and stopping at many of the same ports. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the free and paid excursions.

Us, too! Very excited when I read that the ports are the same as ours! Happy to be getting some "insider tips" before we leave.

  4. Thank you for your suggestion. I will do just that. I hope they will be able to tell me prior to our booking date, since decisions will need to be re-made if half the excursions we thought we had to choose from are now gone.

I also have to call to inquire about our flight info since we haven't received that yet.

    Thanks! :p

I hope someone can help me with my question on booking shore excursions for my upcoming trip (Dec 22, 2015). On the viking oceans website, under the Mediterranean Christmas itinerary (http://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/cruise-destinations/western-mediterranean/mediterranean-christmas/index.html#itineraryday/8) under day 8 (for example) it lists 10 excursion options.

Today is the first day any excursion options have shown up on my account on myvikingjourney.com and the excursion options are different than what is listed on the Viking Cruise website. Unfortunately, the excursions we were most looking forward to, like "Rome & Private Visit of Vatican City Museums", are not listed as an options on this site. There are 6 excursion options listed.

Myvikingjourney.com states I am unable to book excursions until 67 days prior to embarking (DV) which I understand.

My question is this: are the options shown on the Viking page that are NOT listed on myvikingjourney.com completely unavailable? I know they are not "sold out" because some excursions are showing up as such. OR when I call to book excursions (which is my understanding, that I have to call - I cannot book online. Please correct me if I'm wrong.) will the options shown on the Viking website be available?

Thank you in advance for any and all help - I sincerely appreciate it!

  6. Thank you for your thoughtful reply! I didn't even consider checking by ports to see if some of our excursion options are there. Great idea!

I know we are going to have an awesome trip. What drew us to this cruise line was the excellent port options, as well as the availability to get away over Christmas :) not necessarily for entertainment. I will be happy as a clam sitting in a hot tub during our spare time, if we have it!

  7. Hello, everyone!

My husband, mom, sister and I will be travelling on the Mediterranean Christmas Cruise Dec 22-30 2015, and are very excited to be trying out the Viking line for the first time.

From the basic research I've done and from reading reviews and posts on this site, it looks like we will be quite a bit younger than the average cruiser for this line. I even asked when booking if there are any age restrictions :) To be honest, I am a little nervous! I know we won't be a bother since we are definitely not a rowdy group.

I would sincerely appreciate any help in making excursion decisions if anyone has any opinions. Is there a forum here that I can check for reviews?

Looking forward to "getting to know" all of you!
