Is there still the 3% charge to get cash at the casino cage, charged to your onboard account?
No, I just checked my last onboard account from November on the Golden and it shows as "casino tables". There are no additional charges anywhere on the account.

You can only purchase the drinks package on the first or second day of the cruise and you will be charged the daily price times the number of days of the cruise. You cannot just select a few days.

The Visitor Centre in The Rocks no longer has luggage storage facilities because they have relocated downstairs. I just rang them and was informed there is a facility called Smarte Carte at 20 Loftus Street. According to Google maps it's an 600 meter (656 yards) walk.

For January, Picton water temps range around 12-17 degrees while Bay of Islands range around 15-22.
As an ex scuba diver I can tell you that 12 to 17 degrees is blxxxy cold. There is no way I would even consider snorkeling those temps without at least a wetsuit vest.:eek:

Yes, the law was recently changed so that casinos can operate whilst at sea, not whilst in port or anchorage.

There is simple solution to the problems outlined above for visitors to Australia. Give the West Island a complete miss and come across the ditch to GODZONE. We have not poisonous spiders, no snakes, no person eating crocodiles, no animals s to pee all over you. We do have a very welcoming country and peoples. We don't have saucers in our sports cabinets either. We have cups instead.

We were on the Sun last week and also in March just prior to drydocking in Singapore.
All the exterior decking carpets have been replaced (which were well and truly needed) and new carpets have been installed in the Vista lounge. I'm not sure if the seating has been re-upholstered but it looked quite new.
Some of the cabins had their carpet renewed whilst others are being done as we speak. Ours was replaced between 10am and noon one morning with no disturbance to us at all.
The air conditioning was working really well throughout the ship in fact it was way too cold in the Vista lounge but the cabins and other areas were just right.
The elevators were working, they are a little slow but no different to the Sea Princess.
The bedding had new linen, pillows and mattress topper but I think the original beds. Certainly comfortable.
Kai Sushi is now called Kai Seafood and some of the menu is cooked. Whilst most people we spoke to wish the pizzaria was not taken out, it's all about the buck and Share was becoming more popular than I expected. Kai however was almost always deserted and I cant see it lasting much longer on the Aussie ships.
I will agree with others about the sewerage smell which was noticeable on many occasions but I wonder if this is caused by people putting the wrong paper in the toilets. Anything other than marine toilet tissue doesn't break down quick enough and will cause blockages.
The free ice cream bar has been replace with a 'pay for' one featuring top quality New Zealand ice cream. Again it's about the dollar I guess and I'm wondering how long it will be before they take away the International Cafe?
Considering her age, I like the old lady and think she's been well cared for.

We're on the Sun at the moment. Prior to boarding the cruise personaliser had the price listed at $73. I purchased mine onboard for $59. Just thought I'd share this info.

I wish Princess would update their website for Sun Princess Drydock Photo Journal. It shows pics from 2013, still nothing on drydock last month :confused:
I was also wondering if they've abolished the free ice cream counter and replaced it with the 'pay for it' one?

Can anyone that's cruised on the Sun since her drydock in Singapore last month tell us if the International Cafe is still open as it is not showing on their deck plans.:(

My husband is interested in the possibility of fishing while we are on a circumnavigation cruise on the Sun Princess in March/April 2017. He is thinking possibly Margaret River or Freemantle ports. Does anyone have any information about fishing guides who will provide all the necessary gear in either of those ports; or, suggestions of other ports that may offer fun fishing? He prefers lake/stream fishing for trout. Thanks for any suggestions.:)
I live in Perth and grew up in Fremantle. There is a place known as Golden Ponds (google fishing golden ponds) it is about 40kms from the passenger terminal but mostly freeway so it would be very do able for a couple of hours fishing. You can hire the gear very cheaply and make sure to wear a hat. It can be very hot at that time of year. Also no fishing licence is required.
Tip: the guys that were catching the most fish were just using a corn kernal for bait :)

Has anyone cruised Sun Princess since 2016 ray dock? If so, are there free dry sauna and steam rooms in locker rooms?
I have read 2 conflicting posts - one says the sauna and steam rooms are co-ed, the other says they are gender specific as part of the men's and women's locker rooms.
The sauna and steam rooms were refurbished in 2013 with all new timber. I was on the Sun just prior to drydock in Singapore last month and they were in good condition so I doubt they have changed. As the previous poster said, they are located in the individual locker rooms so they are not mixed gender. There were ample white towels for use, no need to bring them with you.

Bankwest Qantas Platinum Mastercard has no fees on overseas or online transactions plus Qantas frequent flyer points earned at .75 points per dollar spend. Unfortunately this is being reduced to .5 points on 1 july. Cost is $160 p/a and includes complimentary travel insurance.

What was the price for these ones? We have the drink package so wondering if the price is $10 or under.
Our cruise was Australian based and as such all prices were in AUD including the drinks package. In oz$ the Ultimate Bloody Marys were just under the maximum price per glass (AIBP) so I presume that your price will be just below the $10 max.

I do like a good Bloody Mary on occasion and everyone seems to either have their own knack to it or it's just the basic..anyone know what a person can look forward to? Also price?
I can highly recommend the Ultimate Bloody Mary which includes Grey Goose and horse radish. I had several on our last cruise (enough to trigger a wee bit of gout :( )and they were a good size glass :D

Hi Bofman, long winded explanation, hope it helps. :)I am cruising in March (us dollars) and November (aussie dollars) and get the same obc screen shots as yours, via the Personalizer. Simple answer is their system just does not recognise some of the cruises are departing from Australian waters and should be just displayed as Aussie dollars. Confusing to new travellers. So it is displaying what it would cost to convert from aussie to US obc now and later in the year when the rate has gone up.
Looking at the difference in the 2 rates It absolutely means Princess are going to give us less US money now for our dollars. Just surprised they havent done it sooner.
As Aussietraveller said, you wont have to worry about the falling aussie dollar though as all your obc credit, if you pay any in, will be in aussie dollars.
I always phone Princess and tell them how much obc credit I want to pay in and know exactly what it costs, only if I am going to be charged in US$. If you are worried what you are actually going to get, just speak to them direct and they will be happy to assist, explain.
In regards to paying money into the casino obc, more helpful to some, including me, for cruises that are charged in US dollars. When I get onboard, I cash the obc casino cards it in at the Casino and receive cash US dollars. Some notes I might gamble with and some I would definately keep as cash to spend ashore, where many countries take US, extra tip money, take cash home for another cruise etc. As the rate I got for my Feb cruise was .90 in the dollar, I have loaded up my OBC. Much better rate than anywhere else. Some people also like to just pay a certain amount in so they dont have to worry about large credit card bills.
As your cruises are in Ausssie you could also just go up to the Passenger services desk anytime during the cruise if you have registered your credit card and give them eg $500 cash to put on your account if you dont want to pre pay via the personaliser. There are many ways to pay in money to your account and we all have our favourite methods.

Totally agree. Then you have the US cash to spend at your leisure in the casino, but keep the rest of the cash and bring it home for your next trip. Needless to say I always purchase more than I would ever spend in the casino and have the cash money purchased at a great rate.

Hi jinja, and anyone else that can help, I am totally confused with purchasing OBC, the US$ rate and casino credits. Can you please inform me a little here.
1. On two upcoming cruises with Princess, (both round trips from Australian ports, same ship 1 from west coast, 1 from east) my personalizer shows two totally different offers. The lesser amounts are for a 4 day cruise and the greater amounts for a 10 day. Given that both these cruises will have Stateroom Accounts in $AU can you explain why the offers are not in amounts like 25, 50 and 100 and why are they different for the two cruises?

2. How do you use casino credits to your advantage. I'm thinking that you pre purchase OBC then use your ship card to load up casino credits perhaps at a slot machine then cash in unused credits at the casino cashier? If that is the case, surely the cashier will pay out in $AU?

Correct its refundable prior to final.......... Unless its a non refundable deposit promo, then you lose the fcc.
I don't recall seeing any promos that have non refundable deposits are they clearly stated on their website or hidden in the fine print. Perhaps if you could post a screenshot of one thanks Colo :confused:

I've only booked one cruise while on board. That was a disaster. The FCC rep did not tell me that the deposit was non-refundable. He wasn't very good. I have a terrific travel agent and usually call Princess to put something on hold until she can pick it up. I let her deal with all the details (fine print and offers). I occasionally stop in to ask about a cruise with the FCC rep, but won't book through the ship again.
I'm new to cruising and purchased some FCDs with the understanding that until final payment is made, the deposit is refundable. This is copied from our FCD letter.
The FCD is fully refundable if your new booking is cancelled prior
to final payment date, unless it is used in conjunction with a non-refundable deposit booking.

That's not the way it was done on the Golden Princess. :confused:
I was required to go to the cage, present my cruise card and was given cash (in AU$), signed a receipt and was given a copy then took the cash to a blackjack table where it was slotted and exchanged for chips as per any land based casino. It then showed in the account as "casino tables"
