I've heard that at least on RC, there is only one door between connecting rooms, not 2 like hotels have. And that you can hear everything. We currently have an aft balcony cabin that is connecting booked, but wondering if we should change.

Can anyone who has stayed in these rooms comment please?

We just got off the Jade. You will have to enter the theater on Deck 7 as the deck 6 entrance is through the casino. However, I found that sitting in the upper theater I could still smell the smoke from the casino, although not strongly. And yes, there is shade on the opposite side of the boat from the smoking area. You can avoid the smoking area very easily. However, we also found people smoking outside of the smoking area and on their balconies near ours. Nothing to be done about it. Some people are just rude.

Yep, there were plenty of ripped jeans on our recent NCL cruise. And without exception, each person wearing them looked ridiculous.

Can you please tell me if the third person in a yacht club room receives all the yacht club benefits with regard to meals, drinks, and thermal spa?

About us - we are a family of three outgoing introverts cruising for the first time. Myself, hubby and 26-year-old son. We booked this trip a year ago and cruised the Jade in The Haven Family Suite.

What we packed that we never used -

- a power bar. Tons of outlets, including USB. There was a regular plug right next to the master bed for my CPAP.

- half of my clothes. We got the laundry special twice in 10 days. Used it both times. No problems. Whites came back white. But I could have packed a lot lighter because of this.

"Must Haves" that we DIDN'T pack and didn't miss -

- magnetic hooks: didn't need them, tons of storage space

- hanging shoe bag organizer: same reason, tons of space for every little thing.

- highlighter for the daily: we just used a pen to circle what we wanted to do.

Miscellaneous thoughts -

- Won't ever cruise in anything but the Haven or MSC Yacht Club. Common areas, particularly the pool and buffet were too "peopley" for us. We went to one activity, a game show knock-off. Everyone made fun of the host, who's first language was not English, because he couldn't pronounce many of the words. It was humiliating to watch. There were a few folks in the crowd who thought they knew everything and kept shouting out inappropriately, but they thought they were hilarious. Not for us.

- The variety and quality of music in the various venues was quite good. We enjoyed sitting in the Atrium or O'Sheehan's in the evening for the soloist or duet. We also enjoyed the dance parties.

- Le Bistro was the best specialty we went to. We cancelled Cagney's after having lunch there there the first day and changed to Le Bistro. So glad we did. Teppanyaki was also excellent, food and experience. We ate lunch at the buffet several times and the food surprised us by being pretty good. We were expecting the worst.

- We had to keep asking the butler to give us fewer pieces of fruit and smaller crudite platters. So much food everywhere and we didn't want to waste. The homemade pretzels are killer, as are the fruit tarts. The little sandwiches with the crusts cut off don't look like much, but when they were in our room after returning from excursions, we scarfed them down!

- We didn't get most of what we requested from the butler, even after multiple requests. That was disappointing.

- However, the courtyard butler was on point. Drinks flowing, snacks and juices kept filled, always checking to see how he could help. He got the lion's share of our tip money.

- Breakfast in Moderno was delicious. Big buffet, plus a menu to order from. Ask for breakfast potatoes, bacon, sausages and toast to go with your omlettes. So yummy!

- Despite what we were told, the folks at Columbian Emeralds, the ship's store, don't bargain. The price is the price. That said, they had the best price for watches out of all the ports we went to. We bought diamond jewelry in the Effy store in Aruba. Got a terrific deal.

- The master bed was very uncomfortable. I slept on the couch most nights as I need a firmer foundation. YMMV.

I probably have more thoughts that I'll add later. Feel free to ask any questions you like. I have pics of the room, some of the food, and thoughts on excursions as well that I will add to the port pages. We booked all excursions ourselves, not through NCL.

I would be the same in person as on here. It has nothing to do with meanness. As folks have pointed out, you read the rules and agreed to them when you booked. No, there shouldn't be exceptions for anyone and all circumstances should be created equal in these circumstances.The rules are in place for everyone. If I paid for a haven experience and people who didn't got to take advantage of it anyway, I would say something. As others have said, the haven is meant to be a separate, special experience. If everyone gets the same perk, the intention is lost. You know what the right thing to do it here. Just do that. I don't think you'll get permission from anyone who has stayed in the haven before.

Have no idea what you mean by your 5 o'clock remark.

I'm guessing he's referring to the fact that "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" and adult beverages are being consumed.

Value is in the eye of the beholder, and money is a really relative thing.

No one can answer that question but you. I don't happen to think it's "worth it" to pay $500 a ticket to see the Rolling Stones. But plenty of other people sure do.

So you don't tip the cleaning staff, the kitchen etc? Just those lucky to be in the prime customer facing roles? It's fairer to stick with the DSC

I was wondering the same thing. There are far more many people making my trip a good one that I DON'T see than the ones I do see. I want them ALL to be compensated fairly and appropriately. I also don't believe that anyone walks around a cruise ship with wads of cash for tipping at every service opportunity. That seems ridiculous on the face of it.

Our itinerary changed....no longer going to PR.

There are almost 20 food venues. What is it, specifically, that you are looking for?

There are all kinds of folks who provide service: waitstaff, hotel staff, butlers, guest services, excursion staff, etc... What, specifically, are you looking for?

If you want generalizations, just do a forum search for Jade and you will learn all you want to know and more.

How many posts are you going to make on this topic??? If you are that worried, stay home. It sounds like you shouldn't ever go anywhere. It's dangerous just crossing the street. Geesh.....

Ignore the folks in this thread who suggest not bringing your little one.

And ignore that folks that tell you who to ignore. There are a lot of well-meaning people who are further away from the subject and may have thought of something you haven't considered because it's your little one.

I would worry about a not completely developed immune system. But, of course, the choice is yours. Opinions are like ______. Everybody has one.

There are plenty of people who would disagree with this statement, my husband the scuba diver for one.

I'm also on the "I don't care we we go" side. Our itinerary was completely changed after final payment. What am I gonna do, cry about it? The people of the Caribbean have a lot more to be upset about then me, for sure.

I just learned about the white party. Is there a way to find out if there are other special happenings before the cruise? I want to pack for them, if needed?

Also, on a Nov. 27 departure, will the ship likely be decorated for Christmas already?

Tipping is a hot button issue here. Be prepared. Best bet is just do a forum search on tipping. You'll get at least 500 threads.

Also on the 11/27 Jade. Booked all our excursions off-ship. What is your hesitancy about doing that?
