  1. We decided not to go on that cruise after all.  My concern was not only the smoke but also the fact that the ship was very old and reviews of the Cloud were not good.  Instead we spent the month of November traveling in Israel.  Right now we’re at the airport on our way to Barcelona where we’re going to sail with the Regent of the Seven Seas Splendor on her maiden voyage from Barcelona to Miami (Feb 6 departure).

From what I could gather though, the smoke doesn’t seem to bother many people. I’ve heard very good things about Silversea and would still like to voyage with them one day but I’ll wait until they have an itinerary I like on a newer ship.

Jag2003 what part of Toronto are you from?  We live in a house just north of Eglinton and just east of Mount Pleasant.  Wonderful to have another Torontonian on our cruise!

  3. Thanks for starting this blog Rich.

My husband Barry and I will be flying to Barcelona on Saturday, Feb.1 and staying at Le Meridien until we board the Splendor. This will be our first trip to Barcelona so we plan to walk around town (we love walking) and of course take in as many of Gaudi's works as possible.  Really looking forward to our first cruise with Regent - we usually sail with Seabourn.

Special shout out to JAG2003 (see above) who is also from Toronto.

Looking forward to meeting everyone aboard.  Haven't started packing yet so I'm getting really anxious.  Off to get started right now!

My photo doesn't looking exactly like me since I've dropped weight since it was taken.

  4. No it doesn’t. We also play bridge and have never smelt any whiff of smoke whilst playing in the afternoon.

Thanks so much for the reply. I can stop fretting about it and look forward to the cruise (meant to write fall of 2019, not 2018).

  5. Popdog......the Humidor is very rarely used during the day....the exception being if the weather is nasty or they’re bunkering....when one can’t smoke outside...

During the evenings post dinner one may find folk enjoying a cigar but the room is well ventilated and staff keep it exceptionally clean so l doubt you will have a problem.

Thanks so much for allaying my fears. I was worried I wasn't going to be able to sail with Silversea. By the way, I meant to say we're sailing in the fall of 2019 - getting the years of my various cruises confused.

  6. Newbie here, and just trying to get a lay of the land.

Will be taking a Silver Shadow cruise and wondered about the reality of the stated policy:

"...cigarette, cigar, electronic cigarette and pipe smoking is permitted only in the Connoisseur’s Corner and in specifically designated areas. These areas include designated tables and seating outside of the Panorama Lounge and the Pool Bar, as well as on open Decks 9 and 10 aboard ...Silver Shadow..."

I'm not seeking to debate anything, but just trying to get some factual information:

    1. Is it true that smoking is allowed along the jogging track on Deck 9, as well as upwind of the jogging track of Deck 9?

    2. I also note that the Connoisseur's Corner is right next to the La Dame and La Terrazza. Does the smell of tobacco affect diners of these adjacent restaurants?

    Many thanks!

    Hi,

Did you go on your cruise on the Shadow yet? I was wondering if the smoke gets into the card room. I am very sensitive to smoke and have a cruise booked for 2019 on the Shadow which I will cancel if so.

  7. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone smoking on the jogging track ( on any of the ships). La Terrazza isn’t affected inside, but people are allowed to smoke on one side outside. On the Shadow there is a door between La Dame and the Connoisseurs Corner. If it has been opened during the day the smell may creep in. There are also those with an extreme sense of smell who believe they can smell cigar smoke when in La Dame, as a ‘normal’ non smoker I have never been able to.

I was wondering if the smell of smoke from the Connoisseurs Corner gets into the conference/card room. We are booked on the silver shadow for the fall of 2018 and I'm worried the smoke will creep into the card room while we're playing bridge.

  8. I was surprised it was available also. I figure someone had to cancel the cruise that they booked a while back. It came available at 1 am as I was searching online and since I couldn't speak to a real person at that time I put a 24 hour hold on it, fearful someone else would grab it if I waited till this morning to speak to a Celebrity agent. I'll phone now and negotiate the switch. Thanks for your help.

  9. I hope I'm posting in the correct forum since I'm new to Cruise Critic. I'm cruising from Valparaiso to Buenos Aries on the Infinity on December 20 and am currently booked in cc8075. I have scoured the posts on Cruise Critic and know that 8075 is a good, quiet cabin. It is on the port side as I wanted since it will be facing land throughout the entire cruise. Now I have the opportunity to take cabin cc7206 which I know (again, by devouring all the posts) is a coveted aft room with a large balcony. I just need someone out there to tell me that I'm doing the right thing to switch since when you're sitting on your spacious balcony facing aft (beautiful and peaceful as that would be) you're not looking directly at the passing landscapes as you would be sitting on the port side, facing the land. Might I be unhappy in a cabin facing aft if I have to crane my neck to see the geographical features?

I need to have an answer by early this evening so I sure hope I've posted this in the appropriate place.

Thanks for any help/reassurance you can give me.:)
