  1. My wife and I will be on a cruise soon with stops in St. Maarten and Puerto Rico. We are not going on any excursions at either port and just plan on walking about. My wife is concerned about finding a public restroom either in general or in a restaurant. We need advice and information on where there are restrooms in Old San Juan. I expect most restaurants in Old San Juan would have public restrooms and I would make some sort of purchase (drinks and an appetizer most likely) prior to using it.

Also are there public restrooms that are not in a business?

We need advice and information on where there are restrooms near the Boardwalk and Front Street in Philipsburg (which is where we will be mostly) Am I correct to assume that most restaurants around the Boardwalk and Front St. in Philipsburg have restrooms available for customers? Are there some that require a fee (coin operated)?

Also are there public restrooms in both locations that are not in a business?

There is a review out there by A&L_Ont that shows a picture of the locker.  It is actually a locking cabinet in the end table.  I think they were able to put a duffel bag in it.  Was a really good size.

Thank you. I didn't find that particular review but did find a review with photos which definitely answered my question regarding the size of the lockable storage. I wanted to know beforehand if there was someplace secure to store my cell phone which would be the only thing of value I'd take. Everything else would be sunscreen, hats, et al. I had read that there are bluetooth speakers in the cabanas so you can play music from your cell phone which would be nice for a while. I'd also like to take video and photos with my cell phone so I can send the photos/videos to friends and relatives later on. I didn't know the cabanas had a ceiling fan. That will be nice.

It is an electronic lock. Your attendant will give you your combo. We use a lock a bye bag. So we didnt need the locker. If i remember it will be big enough for phones and camara.

I found chill island very secure. We kinda just left our stuff lying in cabana unless we left area to explore

I have a LocTote locking bag/backpack which I plan on bringing. What object within the cabana is good to lock something onto?

  6. My wife and I will be on a cruise soon and one port will be St. Maarten. What are some good restaurants near the boardwalk that specialize in local seafood dishes? We plan on taking a taxi into town from the cruise port and having at least one meal there. If we time it right we will probably go for an early lunch and an early dinner before going back to the ship. It may end up being lunch OR dinner if we can't find a way of killing several hours in the area.

  7. My wife and I are going to be on a cruise aboard the Harmony of the Seas fairly soon and one of the ports will be at San Juan. There's not any excursion there that interests us so we were just planning on taking a taxi into Old San Juan for lunch and/or dinner. What are some good restaurants in Old San Juan that feature local cuisine?

Also, once we are dropped off at the restaurant what's the best way to get a taxi back to port? Can the restaurant call a cab for us? Are there taxi stands within walking distance of most Old San Juan restaurants?

Also we encountered fire coral.  Despite growing up in Florida, I had never encountered this before.  Several people along the beach had problems with it including my wife.  The lifeguards had a spray bottle of vinegar that helped, but it ruined the day for some.  There was one young girl who was stung and wouldn't stop crying for a long time.

I am from north Florida and have never encountered fire coral before. What should we be looking for? My wife and I have a cabana booked at the beach at Chill Island. Is fire coral a problem there? Would pair of some sort of "water shoes" be recommended or is going barefoot into the water at Chill Island beach okay?

Came back from Mariner cruise on Monday and we had Chill Island Cabana #2.  We enjoyed it very much.  There is a Cabana attendant, Linda.  She provides menus and takes your lunch orders and brings lunch back to you at the time you select.  Also brings drinks as well.  The Cabana was very comfortable and so close to the water.  The Cabana had some bottles of Evian water in a cooler and two floaty mats.  I believe you can have 8 people designated for these Cabanas.
We saw some of the island but not all.  There is PLENTY to do that is at no cost. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas.  There is a free pool and also a lagoon with chairs and umbrellas which are all set up for you before you arrive at no cost.  When we were there they had no trams around the island, just from the pier to the shore.  Very lacking for those who are mobility challenged as has been mentioned before.  I believe as they get their stuff together that there will be a tram similar to Labadee. .

    It's sounding better and better.....

  10. I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed earlier but there are so many pages on this topic that it would take far too long to search.

My wife does not have much heat tolerance so I was wondering: are there any air conditioned buildings on Coca Cay we could go to in case she overheats. With all the shade and ceiling fans I doubt she will overheat (I'm also going to bring items to help her remain cool) but I'd like to know just in case. Thanks in advance.
